For all you expert sofa police, the initial car that has held the junction has done all that was required. He has held the junction (perhaps a little early) to allow the actual armed convoy to move down to the junction and take over. The actual convoy would have a point vehicle that pushes forward and holds junctions and creates gaps etc. The lead vehicle then has a clear path to guide the prison van through. They are then followed by rear and in this case, a sweep vehicle. The initial car that held the junction is most likely NOT part of this convoy, but was just used to stop the vehicles at the first junction. The police have obviously deemed the prisoner a high risk of escape, which is why they have used an armed convoy to escort them to and from court to prison.

Many years ago I had a friend who was at university in Manchester and although I never visited during the summer, for obvious reasons, when I did visit and I mean everytime I visited it always pissed down with rain. It would have been such little effort for the police to get out of the car and properly instruct the cars at the front of each queue (you know, actually direct traffic). Was it that big of a deal that some cars got confused? No, probably not. But they could have achieved what they wanted without any confusion at all, with basically no extra effort.

@@jackwatson3944 Presumably the fact that the first policeman was so ineffective meant that the whole thing took twice as long as it could have. The truck and all the rest was a sitting duck for all that time.

That stupid officer in the first car needs to go back on his escorting course! Fine, use the car to get attention. But he should have gotten out of the car and given clear signals to everyone involved and also maybe pulled some lines of traffic through to clear some of the blockage. I would have stopped the main carriageway and move the two cars in the side street out and let them on their way. He made a complete hash of the whole task!

My family officers work efficiently, but as respectfully as possible & would get out & direct people instead of lazily blasting their horn & yelling through the window to "move"! Totally agree mate. I'm not an ex copper but as I was watching this I started yelling at my monitor for that lazy dick to get out and direct traffic - exactly as you said. People have no idea what is going on and are clearly confused, understandably. Good policing is about providing direction and assistance, not yelling and blasting horns. He had ample time to move those two cars waiting to turn right on their way, but no, leave them in the middle of the road when you have a high value convoy to squeeze past them. The guy in the car was a dick!

Rule #1 when doing anything around traffic: keep your instructions as clear and simple as possible. So the opposite from what can be seen in the video. It also doesn't help that they "close" (tbh what they do doesn't really qualify as closing) the intersection for minutes before anything happens

For everyone commenting about the first car: I was always taught when driving, that if a police car is driving by with its lights on, you pull over to the side, and if you’re stopped at an intersection, you wait until the police clear it. There is no exception - even if the light turns green or if you’re turning right. (Or in the UK left) Anything else is illegal. Everyone I know was taught this too. It might be a little different in the UK, but if it is then it needs to change. Don’t tell the officer how to do his job, I’m sure he gets more bullshit than respect already.

This is one of the most inefficient police escorts I ever seen in my life...

I noticed on this video the 5 Series that holds the junction doesn't use the rear matrix display that says "HOLD BACK" - "DO NOT PASS" in the other video from Strangeways where the officer does a much better job the display is used. Maybe that has some beating? 🤷‍♂️

It's ok shouting at the motorist in the black car who obviously had NO idea he was required to stop due to poor signalling and location of the police car, which should have stopped the traffic flow on that side of the road completely once safe to do so, but NOBODY noticed, or bothered about, the guy in the Nike hoodie who walks right in front and slows down to look on, he walks past right in front of the convoy very slowly at 1:07 then keeps stopping to stare. Or the other guy who walks right past just after going the opposite way. They only pick the third guy and tell him to go another way after two people just waltz straight past. Great police work there, lol.

They really need to put traffic lights at this junction, so the police can just turn them to all red, as the amount of times they close the road with a police car.

They do have Video Link facilities within, however, the public cry for justice and, as in this case, when justice is done Joe Public still whine. They attend court to be held to account, to hear a case in front of a jury. Whilst this case is horrific, and of course their are huge ripple effects to victims, families etc, the individuals do have a right to trial. Attending court is massively important for victims and families. What surprises me the most is comments such as, “you should be locking up murderers etc than escorting...” well hello! WTF are they doing? Locking up murderers!!!! These individuals are Very High Risk Of Harm to themselves and members of the public. They are deemed so by their cat status, in addition, they are gang related crimes, gangs don’t drop tools inside, on the contrary, most hits are made from the inside, as, as such the “gang leader” will have access to inside intel. This video isn’t cops demonstrating play school, this is cops keeping the PUBLIC SAFE. There have been numerous break outs of Prison Vans this year alone, 2018. Most are operated by private firms such as G4S and Serco. As previously stated, the armour in “normal” vans are substantially lower than those of HMPS and Police Prisoner Transport Vehicles. It would be possible for a prisoner to break out or be broken out, the most common for prisoners themselves is to do a head stand and kick the emergency roof hatch open. This is a well known tactic by prisoners, especially YP’s who do it for fun, not too escape but set the alarms off by tampering solely to frustrate the PEO’s. With comments regarding saws etc, of course any diamond tipped saw would be like a hot knife through butter and likely cut through a door, that said, not necessarily. All custodial locks and doors are tested to very high standards depending on the category of the estate. Have a look on website CellSiteSecurity here you can read PDF’s of the extreme measures locks and doors are put through to be graded. Locks especially have been tested to saw specific “cut through” times and I know for certain, some locks have taken up to 8 hrs to cut through. The security inside this particular van is High, it carry’s HMPS and Armed Police. Armed Police would likely have driven the van due to comms, HMPS aren’t on Airwave like the Police so wouldn’t have been able to hear anything. In relation to the Cop blocking off the junction and the time it took, IMO this was a High Risk scenario and I believe he did the correct thing by remaining sat in the vehicle. Him exiting the vehicle could have increased his vulnerability and the safety of the operation. The delay was from the Gate House, regardless of 20 police, protocol has to be followed. Searches have to be made, keys have to be handed in, if police have entered the jail then they have to collect radios etc, Prisoner Escort Paperwork has to be checked, lots is going on behind the scenes whilst the junction is closed. Furthermore, the fundamental thing about an escort is that under NO circumstances must the escort vehicle become stationary or stop. The vehicle has to keep moving, the vehicle will avoid tunnels so will use diverted routes and of course, they take routes that Joe Public wouldn’t likely guess. It could be, and is highly likely that bikes may have been a junction or two ahead, also clearing the way. To me this was text book. Finally, the cop in the car blocking the junction, I take my hat off to him. Without any shadow of any doubt, the driver of that black Astra would have been reported for a traffic offence and given 3 points if I was him. I see it everyday with inconsiderate motorists blocking emergency vehicles getting through roads or being totally inconsiderate with giving way, The driver should have been booked. Major operation but one that’s required. Plus, for everyday this trial goes on and their attendance is required, too transfers in and out of jail throughout their sentence, this will unfortunately be their new method of transport purely because they deserve to be housed like this because, put simply, THEY ARE A DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. Instead of finding negatives, let’s spend a moment to think about the jobs Police, Ambo, Fire, Prisons etc do, with no money, and the shit they have to put up with also. Comments about BMW’s etc, they are not leased because they look shiny, they are leased because they are operationally capable. With Audi RS’s getting jacked everyday, what does one expect the police to chase them with? A Vauxhall Insignia? Get a grip negative people. X5’s are armoured and offer Officers a high shield of security. Think before you post. Saw something not dissimilar to this this the day before Maggie Thachers funeral. Driving back from luton airport when multiple police bikes (armed) with whistles brought traffic to a standstill at a roundabout, convoy of Range Rovers and exec cars blasted towards the M1. Confusing as hell, bikes on the roundabout then kindly scarpered leaving everyone to sort out the mess for themselves! Never did find out who was traveling.

Personally,I think that cop put his car on that junction,to prevent any vehicles getting through the queues of traffic,without being seen from a long way.I guess,it all depends what,or who is being escorted to wherever.I wouldn't call the driver stupid.It seems he was in exactly the right place when the convoy came through.
