High School Talent Show Guitar Medley
Музыка
Hello! This was my talent show performance at my high school on November 14, 2017 when I was 17 years old. I put together a guitar medley of a variety of popular songs from AC/DC to One Direction.
I thought this would engage the entire audience a lot more than just one particular song and although most of them are easy to play, they just so happen to be some of the most recognizable riffs (this was designed to entertain a high school audience, not professional musicians).
Unfortunately, the video did not catch the first few seconds of my performance, but you can watch that here: • High School Talent Sho...
The final guitar riff and solo is my original work. At the end, I tried to lift up my guitar and strum out the last chord but the cord popped out of my amplifier! I ended up placing 2nd in the talent show, but it was one of the best nights of my life.
For those wondering, 1st place was taken by a band already well-known from my school for performing a cover of The Final Countdown in their own style.
List of songs played in order:
Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne
Enter Sandman by Metallica
Back in Black by AC/DC
I Love Rock 'n' Roll by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Beat It by Michael Jackson
What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction
Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar
Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes
Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses
Titanium ft. Sia by David Guetta
Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Iron Man by Black Sabbath
Fade to Black by Metallica
Original Riff and Solo
Equipment:
2014 120th Anniversary Gibson Les Paul Junior
Marshall MG100HCFX

I love the Amp and guitar combo. Great versatile tone. This young man can play very well! I play live and would actually love to interview him and see what he can do. Great job!
I don't care if these are "overplayed" songs, if they're played well enough and in an entertaining way it's good to me. I liked it.

Would still take me some weeks to get songs down. But complexity isn't really a sign of skill. Well it could be but Isn't the only way. It might depend on the song but to me every song has its own quirks to work out. Part of the reason of why I like playing and practicing is because I'm figuring out how to handle those quirks in my own way. I might use a different technique or different chord to reach the same effect or a change in strumming to match some other thing.

You’re good dude. I can see where you’re coming from and I’m thinking you may be referring to the crowd clapping. I wasn’t paying much attention to them and was just focusing on myself playing since it was just me. Each of the songs I played had their own tempo and whenever I switched songs while the crowd was clapping, it threw everyone off how fast they were clapping, so that’s why it sounds off beat with the crowd. In simpler terms, I was just playing to my own beat since, to me, there wasn’t really one. I’m not sure if I misinterpreted what you’re saying but I hope what I explained helped you understand why there’s not one tempo throughout the performance.
