No kidding, I’m way late to seeing this for the first time but I’ll be back! Thanks for sharing this post, these young dudes were fantastic. Great stuff!!

7.6 million views and 17k comments speaks for itself. This a great cover especially for a high school band. My one observation is with the drummer he seems nervous at the start but once he finds his groove he really starts to sell the performance. The dueling solos was also a nice touch.

Ronny Man Beats that intro solo Kirk does really isn't hard man. One of Kirk Hammett's easiest to play. I dunno what to tell you. Maybe practice more instead of being rude to people that can play it. Edit: like Artemis GD said though, alternate picking is essential

I was very lucky to have been in a band with the same kids from ~13-18 years old, (we were ALL the same age! 😂). That was before computers so we did a lot of rewinding and stylus lifting. Huge kudos to the kids, all of them grown up and gigging regularly!

I agree. This dude is playing "open handed". I can't do that. I have to cross my right hand over my left to play the hats. He is developing a far superior technique. Playing open handed has all kinds of advantages. I'm jealous.

@@P1NOU We learn cross handed because, if you're right handed, your strong hand is playing the hats and your weak hand is on snare. Generally, the hats is a technically harder pattern to play than the just back beat pattern on the snare. Like, when you switch to the ride you are still playing the same pattern with your right hand, but just a different cymbal. It's easier to learn to play the hats with your right hand. Like, that's the default. If you can play open handed like this dude in the video, you should be able to do both. Open handed way is harder to learn, because your playing the more difficult pattern with your left (weak) hand and the back beat with your right. If you can do both then you can play more interesting grooves and fills because not crossing hands means you should be able to move around the kit more efficiently. Now, I know someone is gonna say, "he's probably just left handed". That's fair enough, maybe he is. If your left handed, you have two options. You can set up your kit totally backwards with the hats on your right and floor tom and ride on your left. Most lefties don't do that; since you can never play someone else's kit without rebuilding the whole thing instead of just adjusting a few things for height and comfort. Also, if your a lefty you have the advantage of just naturally being open handed. A lefty just has to learn how to play the ride "backwards". A lot of famous drummers are actually lefties. Ringo was a lefty. It is said that has a lot to do with his unique sound.

I've never been more proud of perfect strangers in my life ever. Up until now. You 4 gentlemen PLEASE stick together and continue playing music. You guys are awesome. Your parents did an awesome job introducing you to Metallica. Keep rockin' on. I'm an instant fan. Very impressed. 🤘👍

Brings back so many memories, Twenty two years, this was the first song my band covered. These guys nailed it.

Wow, this is definitely not the hardest Metallica song to cover, but to be able to nail those solos , and the dueling solos, and the transitions really cleanly, and the timing is really pretty much perfect, and with a pretty dang good voice is waaay harder than most people think. Hats off to these guys. Its weird to think their all in their 30s now...

The fact that Red Shirt Kid was able to get such a good tone for the intro solo using a Strat was pretty impressive to be honest.

Guitar is hard to get this good at and it’s even harder to play that well while singing and while performing in front of crowd. Some people really have no idea and get excited when someone plays single chord, like it pisses me off when someone will shred a killer solo and get no reaction but as soon as a simple chord progression is played they lose their minds!

This is one of the better covers from high schoolers I've seen. They were very true to the original. No twangy missed cords and vocals were great!

It takes even more talent to be able to sing and play at the same time. It got me nodding to it. 🤘

Best high school talent show cover I’ve ever seen. Worst part is like 85 percent of those kids couldn’t even appreciate or understand how good it was.
