High School SOPHOMORE Elizabeth Leachman Breaks National HS 5K Record At Texas Relays

Boerne Champion (TX) sophomore reacts to breaking the U.S. high school national record in the outdoor 5,000m, clocking 15:25.27 to win the collegiate invitational field at the 2024 Texas Relays. It also helped the high schooler set a meet record in the event, besting the 15:29.85 Texas Relays all-time best from 1984.
She surpassed Natalie Cook's previous high school record of 15:25.93 set in 2022 at the Stanford Invitational.

For so young, this lady is articulate, composed, smiling and knows how to speak to the press. Now I'm a fan and can't wait for her to do very well in other distance events. I would like to see her at the Olympic trials. Oh, it would be an interesting race against Sadie Englehart in the mile or 1500 meters.

I really liked her when I saw her run so well. And now that she mentions by name the previous record holder and how gracious she is with her praise of her and her team mates I like her even more.
What an amazing individual and what a phenomenal talent she has for long distance running. Listening to her interview was a lot of fun, too. She deserves everything she works for and gosh, she's just a blessing for the world.
OK.....that's fast. Crazy fast. A talented, poised young woman.

There really was no pacemaker and no competition from the first lap until she started to lap the backmarkers which must have given her a bit of perspective. As far as competition is concerned , there was none.The mental strength involved to maintain focus for the entire 5000metres is the most impressive thing.
