This game makes a good case for the mercy rule. If you get up by 70 points with a lot of time left on the clock, it's time to call it.

In six-man football in Texas, if a team is winning by 45 points at or anytime after halftime, they call the game.

A six-grade Pop Warner football team could of beat this 2014 Compton varsity football team.

All of these idiots blaming the winning team for scoring a lot of point need to look at the facts. Long Beach had the back up QB and a linebacker at RB IN THE 2ND QUARTER! You can't ask the kids (who are backups) to stop trying hard. First, it's asinine. Second, if you were foolish enough to ask kids to not try hard, that's when injuries would occur cause kids wouldn't be protecting themselves. Sometimes lopsided scores cannot be helped. What shows less class to the opponent: (1) putting in backups, only calling run plays, and trying to "manage" the score, or (2) not trying? The answer is (2). It'd be a slap in the face. It's on the team that get whooped to drop to a more competitive conference.

Never ceases to amaze. People blame the winning team for running up the score. I think at some point you have to blame Compton's defense. LBP was running off tackle and still scoring TDs. Really bad teams play really good teams sometimes. Stop blaming a team for being good. And why keep starters in? I've seen really good teams blow out everyone in the regular season, sit all the starters at half. What happens when they get to the playoffs? They aren't used to playing a full game, get gassed and beat in their first tough game.

I know! Honestly, as an athlete for all my life and a high school football and basketball player, it's more disrespectful when you put in the JV team and win than it is for the varsity team to keep playing how they play, TO ME at least.

I know I am a couple years late, but I just want to say that even against a bad team, freak injuries do happen, and it would be so stupid to get one of the teams star athletes hurt In a game they could’ve won with the cheerleaders

The biggest thing is that in regards to scholarships they should go, and put as many points up as possible set records. They could of scored over a hundred easily. The biggest things is effort. Their backups are division 1 athletes. Good Job Poly

The rule in CIF football after being up 30 points in the 2nd half the clock does not stop. Poly literally ran Dive right and Dive left for 30 straight plays.

well to be honest, Compton technically did give up 96 points because of that touchdown biggie marshall scored. It just got called back due to that penalty. But still...90 points. SMH This program should've gotten Raul Lara that transferred out of poly.

Nah mercy rule has to be there. Getting blown out the water is not healthy in highschool most of the players be so ashamed to play they'd quit the football team. U gotta remember highschoolers are not mature they get blown out like that they saying "Fuck this team" and leaving

All I have to say is where's the class in our league. To beat a team is one thing but to blow them out like this is another especially when your in the same conference. To take advantage of a weaker opponent in the way you guys did Compton H.S. Is just down right embarrassing. Long beach Poly should've had mercy on there league mates but instead they run the score up like this... Its a sad day in high school sports when as the head coach doesn't know when to take mercy on a weaker team but this is Poly we are talking about. A school that only cares about national rankings and running up the score on a team that hasn't won a C.I.F title since 1985 and only has made the playoffs maybe four times in the last twenty years and when they do they have to play some of the best teams in the C.I.F. Coaches should be accountable for running up the score on opposing league rivals. And the C.I.F should also be ashamed as well for letting this go on cause at the end of the day these kids have to live with it not us as adults... Food for thought for L.B.POLY & THE C.I.F

Thank you for your post, Yet"Running Up the Score" is somewhat unique to football. I don't understand the reasoning myself behind the accusation. In Chess competitions do they give away free pieces when they are ahead? In racing does the leader slow down to keep from embarrassing the opponent? In baseball do they strike out on purpose when ahead? Etc etc. Another thing to consider is that that second string team that is 'running up the score' is full of guys that have spent years doing push-ups in full pads in the summer and running wind sprints. And now after 10 years of paying their dues they're expected to take a knee on the big stage of Friday night so not to hurt someones feelings? Respectfully,

I’m a Compton native and former Tarbabe. I’m not into mercy rule. If you’re weak you’re weak. It needs to be identified and magnified just like this or worse. Me personally, I would’ve went for 200 points!! That’s just me tho. Poly was 5 toes down cause they kept 5 in Compton’s asses!! I’m just saying!!

Didn't Bishop Amat, a California team, go down to Aledo, Texas and whoop Aledo pretty badly in 2014? I thought I heard that Aledo was a very good team in Texas? They DESTROYED Aledo, at Aledo. It was Aledo's only loss of the season and they ended up ranked #8 in Texas. Bishop Amat ended up losing to four California teams. Yep, Aledo's one loss, their only loss, their lone loss came at the hands of Bishop Amat, 42-7. The score was 42-0 going into the 4th quarter, and Bishop Amat rested most of its starters for that final quarter. It could have very well been a 60-0 shutout. LOOK IT UP ON MAXPREPS.

My old florida team woulda crushed both these soft ass teams. Didn't see one real hit.
