What a physical prowess from badminton players in 90s to early 2000s, they smash like there is no tomorrow

Pretty sure the rackets were a lot heavier than now, so they need whole body to get a good one

@@peterji4777 Yes, rackets back then were only available in 2U and 3U, with a lot less technology than now

I think also because the modern rackets had become so light and more bouncy than before. It made defence and soft return more easily and this favour defensive style of play. Smashing doesn't give you that much of advantage as in before, and you might turn your attack into a weak defence if your didn't hit your opponent hard enough. If you play badminton often enough, you might realise players nowadays don't scare of smashes as long as they are well-prepared. Even when a male player is smashing against female player, good female player can defend and return a good drop. That's why most modern top players are not very aggressive on attack, it punish them more than giving them the death strike. Lee Zii Jia used to be the rare aggressive top players and he smash hard. Fans love him because of that. See how his play style being counter by a lot of players nowadays. But he also change his style in recent time as well, hope he will find his way.

When badminton was so beautiful... A first generation Carbonex 8 was the racket I learned to play with. Kids, try play with one of those if you see one...

Gade before 2001 DID have a big smash. Man needn't to be taller than Axelsen to have a stronger smash.

@@c-a-t-entertinment7075 yeah I know, some people believe the taller you are, the heavier the smash you'll hit. To me, 6' is ok and not that tall in men's singles, actually that's the perfect height to play in the department and this body type around this height may fits to produce the strongest smash(Fu Haifeng 5'11-6' unclear, Rankireddy 6'0.5, or Tan Boon Heong also 5'11-6'1 unclear).

I agree with that. He makes really snappy "flatter Smash" But he is known to play quite steep attacks also when in good position/ with jump footworks@@giavyman

Old point system- If you serve and lose the rally then service is given to your opponent (not point) If the opponent serves and you win the rally then you get your service back Point is only scored on own service 😅 15 point 3 games Hope you understand
