Here’s a tale for you. When I was an AA man, I went out to a Toyota avensis taxi, cut out. Timing belt snapped. I towed it to the guys garage. I said to the guy whose car it was do you want a lift home? Your car is gonna be a while. He said no thanks, it’ll be fixed soon enough! Sure enough a couple of hours later he drove past me waving in his car. Turns out the garage exclusively do Toyota taxis and had a spare head etc sat waiting for it. Crazy

Another fantastic video about HPFP, but I have question about the rocker cover (this is how you call that in the video - time 8:45) and the hose this the only place in my engine (except HPFP) where I can see oil sweating and this is through that hose and the clip. I've heard that changing the clip for the one with the screw might help, but is it something to bother my mind? Should be this fixed, like changing the rocker cover (I think there is a spring with the rubber membrane under that round lid seen at 8:45min)?

  • @alan4x

hi rob...many of them leak a little from that hose..you can put a jubilee clip on it or replace the hose and clip,,,,the plastic rocker cover is a sealed unit and glued together..they often sweat oil between the glued joints but its minimal and not worth worrying about..also the plastic cover is quite some work to replace...i have never had to replace one because it was faulty

Great explanation as always. I'll be a little bit offtopic: Did you ever have to change the little turbo Oil feed pipe Filter? I'll give you a part number so you understand what i'm on about. These might be really problematic on high mileage diesel cars (as proven on the focuses): Part NO: 9P424 or 1336616. I've got a 210PS diesel and i'm worried that this filter might be causing problems (being a high mileage car.)

Hi Alan, is this the same engine that is in the 2015 focus st tdci, I randomly get a load of oily smoke coming out from somewhere under where the batt, air filter is etc, usually after some "spirited" driving, turn engine off and in again and it stops, someone mentioned on a forum that it could be oil leaking from the high pressure fuel pump, any ideas?, great video as usual by the way

WOW. I have EXACTLY the same problem. Only really noticed after removing the dpf. So far swapped turbo and injectors. Completed a compression and leak off test. I currently have a ecu company looking at my stage 3 file but they can’t find anything unusual with the tune

Hi Alan, can you tell me if you ever had to change the oil seal under the sprocket (time 15:00)? The number of this seal is Delphi 7190-266 (I don't know the ford part number). I wonder if there might be a leaking issue as well.

if you mean the "o" ring seal behind the pump sprocket then i would fit a new one every time the pump is removed

@@alan4x No, I didn't mean the o-ring, but the oil seal which is under the sprocket (you need to take it off first to get there, there are actually two seals). The seal looks similar to the one in the engine and driveshaft.

@@alan4x I assume you never have changed that oil seal :) Here is the link (kzread.info/dash/bejne/m4iNlsGRksjOfbQ.html) where a guy shows how he replaces the oil seal under the pump sprocket (about time16:32). He also shows a small hole where the oil is leaking when the seal is broken, so even if you replace the o-ring it can by pass through the oil seal. Maybe this is the answer if the pump is leaking again soon after you change gaskets. I wounder what you think about that, how long, how many miles did your taxis do before pump started leaking again? I'm in the middle of replacing gaskets on my pump, but I'm not sure of changing this oil seal under the sprocket at the moment, maybe for the second time when I'll see leaks again.

on the mk4 mondeos i not had a chain tensioner fail yet...had a couple fail on the mk5 and we do change the oil regular ..proper ford oil..because of the amount of work involved i would not change the chain unless for some reason it did get noisy then i would change the lot
