As a Turkish, I'm pleasantly surprised to see the track "Karanlık Yol". Karanlık Yol means The Dark Road in Turkish, and the track is basically a Turkish folk music. Commonly mistaken with middle eastern tunes but it's a pure Turkish history right there and even if I'm not a big fan of my own country's folk music, I'm happy that it got some recognition from one of the heaviest riff writer in the history of metal music! Great video as always man! Thanks!

Long time fan. I've seen High on Fire live on multiple occasions and they are absolutely thunderous. Disagree in major ways with the list. Electric Messiah is my least favorite HoF album by a long shot. Surrounded by Thieves, Blessed Black Wings, Snakes for the Divine, and Luminiferous are S tier. The production in the early years was rough but that was the vibe in the early 2000's stoner metal world.

I love every album they've done and can't wait to give Cometh the Storm a listen when it drops tomorrow. So far Death Is This Communion is my favorite. I wanted to see them when I was in San Diego in 2019 but I had to go back to Virginia (military). Funny you mention Mastodon since if it wasn’t for High On Fire, Mastodon probably would never have formed since they all met at a High On Fire show.

Kickass stuff! I prefer Sleep and will always prefer Sleep out of his bands, but sure High on Fire is heavy and trippy enough for me! Love when they throw in some thrash in there. I love how the lowest score you have on your board is "Okey" for High On Fire! Sure tells you a lot about the level we are ultimately talking about here. Say what you will about High On Fire, but the power really kicks in the most when you're high (on fire) on pot or even better your favorite psychedelic of choice. That is when this music comes to life for real, and suddenly the lyrics make sense in that mystical, psychedelic way. Like Mastodon or even Tool, these bands make their music to be listened in a certain state of mind, for sure.

I’m always a huge fan of Albini’s productions, and for me “Brother in the Wind” is just a perfect song for me. All in we might disagree over the order, but I’m sure we can agree that High On Fire fuckin’ slay - one of(maybe the) best metal band around.

My favourite metal band and, at least for me, their sound is the ideal - the distillation of everything good about metal (broadly speaking). Raw but tuneful, heavy but capable of delicate passages, sloppy but tight - Fun. Anyway, Luminiferous all the way. I really enjoyed this ranking! I will say, with “Art of Self Defense”, I find the comparison with Black Sabbath very interesting. Before High on Fire, Matt Pike was part of another band called Sleep, which also very much took cues from Black Sabbath. When Matt Pike went on to create his own band, it’s clear that he kept a ton of Sleep’s influence in the first album. Just compare “Art of Self Defense” to Sleep’s “Holy Mountain” and you can hear it easily. I’d chalk it up to the fact that he was just sticking with what he knew to get started. However, after that, he was able to distinguish himself, and I felt that all other albums had a very unique sound compared to the first, which I’m glad for. No one recreates the sound of rolling gravel quite like Matt Pike!
