    Great video and comparison as always! I just gotta say if your going to buy through the site he got most of these from, be sure to really look over your stuff because I was sold a almost brand new Evo that had cracked shells, that was inspected by the guy he named at that store. So just a heads up to check your stuff!

    Thank you very much for this review. This is probably the best audio gear review I have seen. I can feel that you spent a lot of time with your gear and you are great at explaining why you prefer one to another. I came here to verify an earlier decision. I owned both EE Evo and Odin and knew (feared?) that the Odin had better technicalities. Nevertheless I sold it since I found it too shouty especially with older recordings. I kept the Evo instead. Now I missed the airiness of the Odin but you reminded me why I sold it. Plus, thanks for not trashing the Evo as most other reviewers :)

    talking about resolution and tonality, I think ThieAudio Monarch MKii is pretty amazing for the price. neutral and natural sounding monitor with huge resolution. one needs to find the right ear tips to scale down the note size to get a better imaging or "head-view"

    I've got the Mest MK2, EVO, and RN6. The Jewell for that money is insane it has such a gaping chasm in its treble. The UM Multi Verse also has a hole that's unacceptable for 4K+. The Annihilator 2023 looks almost perfect but good luck getting your hands on one and if the 2024 will maintain or go more "unique" in tuning. Trailli was perfect for its time but is getting encroached on by progress! I'd hold on to that baby until the drivers fail.

    Great review. I am following you from ZMF and table top to DAPs and IEMs. While you had the neck motivation mine is travel. Loved your reviews on the other side and you picked right up here. Quick question. With the SONY that you like can you EQ the Odin to approach the sound of the Traillii? If not, would the Traillii be good for vocals and pop as well as old rock not well made and then the Odin for classical and jazz?

    IEM prices these days are nuts. And I say that as an owner of the Odins. I remember when $800ish IEMs were considered insanely priced and the upper tier (granted those would now be over 1k with normal inflation). Now those are "budget" or "low-mid tier". It's crazy. You can get some damn good speakers, especially monitors, 1-2k and especially for 3k and up (I know, I have several and my main speakers, which cost about 20k, are only about twice as much as the most expensive IEMs I've seen). What does it cost to make these IEMs...$500 at most for the most expensive ones? I do really enjoy my Odins in my bedroom setup (no cans, much less speakers, in there with the girlfriend next to me) and occasional desktop use, but I'm fully aware that I'm still a huge sucker for spending that much on IEMs (even headphones at that price is insane, and yes, even spending thousands on speakers, much less 20k, is crazy and a ripoff), and that's after I sold the cable as I'm not wasting a grand on hocus pocus (I bought a $70 cable that sounds, of course, the same and is more comfortable). They sound significantly better than my OG MESTs (that I have for portable use), but not 3 times as much, although twice as much (which is about the final cost of my Odins because I sold the 1k cable of course) is somewhat reasonable. (Amps I use for my IEMs/headphones is the Ferrum Oor and Schitt Lyr+). But the thing is, in music or audio reproduction it's Live>Speakers>Headphones>IEMs. You just keep losing the realism and scale as you go down that chain and the hard limits of physics will never change no matter what pseudoscience tech marketing and reviewers say. So even good 1-2k speakers will sound better than the most expensive headphones and especially IEMs (and I've heard those and even own the aforementioned Odin and a Susuvara). You get a feeling of "you are there" with speakers that will always be greatly diminished via smaller transducers which just can't recreate the grandness and sound stage/imaging "pick instruments out of the air" of the music. So I only use headphones/IEMs when I have to: when it's quiet time in the house or for portable use. Though I enjoy them, and there is something to be said for the more intimate "my own world" sound they create, they just can't compete with speakers for sheer realism, scale, and a "pin you in your chair in astonishment" sound (much less body shaking bass; and I'm not basshead). tl;dr : If living conditions allow it, don't spend 3-5k on headphones much less IEMs; you can buy an amp, DAC (remember that all decent DACs sound the same) and good speakers for that which will blow away any headphone/IEM setup.

  • @XenogearsPS

    @XenogearsPS

    yeah I bought a dac and iem for a total of 600 bucks (ebay fiio fh7). The left side of the iem was damaged and made scratchy noises, but the right side was fine.. anyways it was still a good representation of what you will be getting with iems. I'm confident my speaker setup will just blow iems away. Speakers reproduce that air pressure and sound stage as if you are there live. LIve can be better, but it just has a different vibe, not so much better sound quality tbh. I'm just thankful I didn't spend a crazy amount of money on the iems.

    I used to own mest Mk2 and regreted for selling it. However, after I demoed UM Mason FS and Multiverse Mentor, I won't buy Mk2 again until I can afford Mason FS or Mentor. Reason being that Mest Mk2 is great, but only marginally better than what I am using now (Z1R, excpet for the bass, Z1R is better). Mason FS or Mentor are way better in the Mids, very thick and full bodied Mids. Even with all BA (+ BCD), the Mentor has more exciting bass than Mest Mk2. Mason FS and Mentor are the best IEMs I ever heard in term of Mids performance. You won't believe Mentor has only BA bass. Odyssey is better than both EVO or Odin, kinda of child of those two. However, with my short demo of Jewel and Traillii, I was not impressed, they are good but not blew me away kinda great. For the monay I have to pay, I do expect those attributes. Maybe those need more time to appreciate.

    This sort of comparison is fantastic because it's the best way to gauge the actual value for IEMs. I think if you did price ranges more relevant to the general IEM fans (I would say everything under the kilobuck range) your reviews and comparisons would be 100 times more helpful. It just isn't realistic for the 99% of us to go past $1k and with your knowledge/experience it'd go a long way to cater the 99% instead of the 1% like this
