You know if game directors would actually play games like Miyazaki does we would have so many masterpieces.
So he refuses to make a Berserk game because he respects Miura-sensei's work far too much? What an absolute GOAT, he's likely aware that it would print money easily, but he prefers to leave it untouched, even if his vision and ideas would contribute to an incredible Berserk game, Miyazaki is a universal treasure.

I almost cried watching this. Miyazaki created Dark Souls, which is the leading series in my life when it comes to anything... His hobbies, the way he sees the world, and how much he is a "down to earth" person makes him an awesome human! I love how his history looks like these "It was meant to be like that" kind of script.

The only man that can walk in any hood completely safe with his lifetime hood pass is Miyazaki-san
Miyazaki is such a fascinating guy, such an unorthodox way of viewing gaming in general, yet he somehow managed to absolutely nail what appeals to a huge number of humans and in a way that is completely unlike anyone else. Many have tried to copy what he created but none have come close to truly recreating his genius
A game dev once said to me; To make a great game, you need a powerful and talented leader with absolute power over the project direction, not a committee or democracy.

Ikumi is adorable, and I love her empathy with other mums. I'm also a huge Miyazaki fan, and find him a sweetie who is not afraid to follow his visions. A big thank you to FromSoft for allowing him the space and freedom to do so, for if not, what would Dark Souls be? I love that Miyazaki is just a huge nerd, as I am - I would love the chance to nerd-out (with an auto-translation device haha) about books, shows, games, with him! XD

I really hope that his interest in Tactics Ogre could lead to Miyazaki and Matsuno working together on a political fantasy game. Matsuno is such a great writer and director, it's so unfair that we've only gotten a handful of games from him. It's especially interesting since he's a very private person like most famous Japanese "artists". Like the creator of One Piece, which is one of the biggest comic series, doesn't even have a very recent picture of himself. I think the most recent are like from 10 years ago.
This is the first time I've heard him speak so candidly about Berserk since the mention of Bazuso in the Dark Souls Design Works interview and the dubbing of the Greatsword's weapon art as the "Guts stance" in the E3 demo of Dark Souls 3. Very interesting stuff.

Outside of Berserk, I can see Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion stories being a huge influence. The way they deal with convoluted time, cycles constantly repeating themselves, twisted gods using humanity as puppet playthings, making covenants with ancient beings to gain certain magical attributes, all kinds of terrifying cosmic horror shenanigans, taking place in fractured apocalyptic dark fantasy worlds, unconventional protagonists, giant epic battles between men, half-men, demons, gods, wizards, sorcerers and all manner of warrior and beast, etc.
this guy tortured us, made us hate him but then made us better and love him a lot more thanks miyazaki
"I enjoy making games even when I'm overwhelmed with work and busy all the time. It's the moment I'm happiest, in general" @ 8:50 is a beautiful quote. I'm a metal musician, and the times when I'm under the most stress (recording/composing/arranging/mixing/producing songs/EPs/albums etc) is when I feel the most alive, I've had 100 hour weeks of work (so average 14 hrs per day) with no days off for almost a whole month before and am looking forward to the next time I get to repeat it. It's cool to see that there are people outside the music/arts industry who share this privilege of turning their biggest hobby and passion into their jobs and be this dignified about it.
Miyazaki's passion for game design, which is both his work and his hobby, could be a problem in the future. Apparently, being so passionate about game design means that his emotions are strongly coupled to his results (this is how he achieves such great results), but without a good balance, his emotions might change (e.g., burnout, mild depression). He is the kind of guy who thinks a lot about his designs in his spare time, so all I can say is: Be careful, Miyazaki! It is nice that Miyazaki is very involved in the map design (I knew it!). I think the world design of Souls games is one of the key elements in those games. Many people are simply longing for challenging boss fights. In my opinion, the world design, the build variety, and boss fights are the key aspects. Just start Elden Ring, look for a nice spot, and look at the beautiful environment. The vista is breathtaking. It often looks like a painting.

His taste in games is very different from mine, yet he helped make some of my very favorite Armored Core games, namely Last Raven and For Answer. In the words of Evangel, "How is it possible?" I often despise games like Ultima Online and Skyrim for having very weak battle mechanics. I must agree with him though...The Legend of Zelda; a Link to the Past was a masterpiece. He has an energy to him that made me assume he was younger than me. Bless him, I want him to have a long, and very good life.
You would think that Miyazaki's favourite dish would be Estus soup. He has to be the only person on the planet to know its secret!
That man is a living legend! He is like Mozart in the gaming industry. I would be so star struck by meeting him 😅

@@SeanHirukiit would be interesting to do something near the end of the whole thing. Kind of like with Sekiro it was the end of the Sengoku era. Possibly something connected to the end of the Wei dynasty. After the end of that war something like 70-80% of the population was wiped out. That type of upheaval is something Miyazaki tends to be interested in.
I worry if we will ever see another Miyazaki in our lifetime when he retires. O.s she is beautiful damn.

Starting off by falling into the Elden Ring lore rabbit hole. How the hell did I end up here becoming a Miyazaki stalker?
his favorite games are my favorite games. a link to the past is still the best zelda, and i always tell people it was an absolute honor to play ultima online when it released. No wonder why I like his games. Also, he is absolutely correct about the importance of level design. 9:12 I cannot stress enough how much the Map design sets FromSoft games apart from any of the Souls type games. I personally felt bosses/boss designs in FromSoft games are like Cherry on the top but not the main focus. There are lot of games out there that does boss designs well but the Intricate and well connected levels is what no other company could replicate.
