Hidden Lift Top Bar made from Vintage 1939 Radio

Get the K-M Magnetic Dovetail Jig and K-M Stop Block here: lddy.no/stih
This week’s project is a 1939 RCA Victor Radio restoration with a hidden bar. This bar was a wedding present to my Bubbie and Zeidi in 1939 and has been in my family for *80 years (I know). I reveneered everything, 3d printed new buttons and laser engraved the initials of everyone who has owned the radio. I replaced the old decals with waterslide decals. This really was a passion project and probably my favorite build I’ve ever done. I really can’t wait to see what you create! Let me know what you’d like to see next. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

Love this book! kzread.infoUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. I'm an Electronics Technician retired after 30 years in the field. One of my customers had 2 nine inch round RCA TV'S. He wanted me to combine the two to make a working TV. That's an era when capacitors were wrapped in wax paper. I've visited homes where the old console TV's were converted into liquor cabinets hidden behind the speakers. Prohibition era or just not wanting your guests to know that you had alcohol. That was an age of craftsmanship when the electronics matched your furniture. Great project.

Very slick! My dad used to repair and sell radios like this. He gave my brother and I one very similar to this back in the 60's when we were growing up. Of course, time has a way of separating us from our childhood treasures and I would do anything to have that radio back to restore it like you have done here. I fully understand the family nostalgia and the emotion in this build...very well done Jonathan!

Great upcycle Jonathan. I have one of these 1930's radios as well in storage. Will be remodeling mine, but wish to have the tubes replaced with a modern stereo with added plug-in for the iphone but keep the retro look intact. My family was always into music and dance as I was growing up, so to keep that part of my Dad's radio memories intact is my goal. I used to stand in front of it and sing as mine has a plug for a 45 record player that sat on top. Not sure when I will be doing this refurb, but you gave me inspiration, thank you.

I've got my grandpa's old record player. It's the old hinge top. He passed a few months back, and that piece of furniture has been in his house since he built it 72 years ago. I was reluctant to restore it. But this has given me the drive to jump on it. The really cool part is it still works! They don't make them like that anymore.

Hullo young man. What a superb mix of old and modern. You cant put a price on an heirloom. You have done it justice young Jonathan. I once worked on Islay as a maintenance joiner and was in that distillery on many occasions. As you like a peaty Dram you could also try Laphroaig or Ardbeg. These will put hair on your chest. Take care BIG GUY.
