Not really all white history they teach world history and even in my school we learned about many other colored people who invented and created items that we use today and what research dose it say Thomas Edison didn’t invent the light bulb I thought blacks in that time period weren’t allowed to work or go to school with whites bibliographic movies can be false dude so your using movies instead of actual research you must really disagree with whites do you any way I am curious to see what movie you got it from. Oh yeah am a Mexican who dose t think about race so try and call me an angry white man.

Merlene Taylor Oh the race card. Thomas Edision patented the light bulb. His company invented things. How many items were invented by white men. And Edision gets the credit. Not the employee the employer. That is how the world works. Edision was all about patents. These ladies were not given credit due to being black. They were not given credit because they were not on Television at the time. Oh and it was the 60s and they were women. There you have it . They were minor players in a bigger picture. Life is to darn short to be PC

completely off topic- but as a person who wears glasses, and people around me- if we push up our glasses it doesn't mean we're trying to act like a know it all, it just means our glasses are wobbled around, and we don't like the way it's justified.

@Merlene Taylor i agree with you. Why i like the saying "Never judge a book by its cover. " You never know what your gonna find in the pages. Especially with history. Nothing is ever on point unless you or someone who is living in the time frame, or same time frame, and interviewing peaple who experienced it. Are the most accurate.

No offense but which Nasa mathematician could you name before this movie? A general hostory class can't possibly hope to teah about every player in a movement as big as this. There's only a handful of mathematician's you learn about in all of history. I learned we went to space, the russians got there first and Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.

@@beenieweenie1986 It not about what you learn in school but ur interest in the topic. I grew learning up learning about engineering, science, computers, history etc. I took rocketry classes in middle school. I learned Newtons laws, how chinease fireworks was made and how fireworks luanched. Same way as rockets. That concept help us create the rocket essentially. We used that basic knowledge to help us learn and evolve. Anouther thing is gun powder. How they ignite Also we cant forget how u.s, and other countries was trying to recruiting german scientist to help them make a rocket. Reason being is that Germany was trying to build a rocket during War world two. So German scientist had a basic understanding or ideas to make it work. Which its quite fascinating in my opinion. What i think is evan cooler is that the concept of the rocket. Took hundreds of years of understanding of math, engineering, science, astromers, material science, and so many more to create it. Heres some scientist that i can name. That made thier own impact in thier own field. Is Nickola Tesila. Ac Alternate current, Tomas Edison Dc Durect current. , Eistien relativity theory, Mileva Mari'c helped einstien in the begining and went to school as a scientist, Pierre and Marie Curie Studding radioactivity, Newton newtons laws or three laws of motion 1. Every object in motion will remain in that state of motion unless an equal or stronger external force acts on it. 2. Force equals mass times acceleration. Formula [f(t)=m a(t)] f= force t= time a = acceleration. 3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Carl Sagon astronomer. Helped study planets, Neal degregrasse Tyson astronomer, Phillip Lenard descover cathode rays and many of thier properties and more and thiers more. Also i never seen the full movie but clips. This what i i am interested in and love to learn about. So yes i do know a bit but not all

Oh, and the opening scene, one of the women said something to the effect, "I bet they've never seen three black women chasing a police officer down the highway before". That helped set the tone of the rest of the movie.

The irony that scene where the Black soldier, eventually "husband-to-be' offends her, this was the era in the military where Black soldiers found it offensive to have it be said that they weren't intelligent enough to fly planes, or do other things that required thinking abilities. He should have known better. But he gives a perfect "I'm sorry" later on in the movie, that's all a human being can do. That's all you need to do if the woman already likes you......
Loved the Hidden Figures clip!
Love this movie !
I’ll be 65 next month. The Mercury 7 were and still are my hero’s. The late 50’s & early 60’s were such heady times. As grammar school children in Catholic school…we were afforded every opportunity to be part of every launch & recovery. This continued into Gemini & Apollo, JFK’s speech, Glen’s orbit, his parade and medal ceremony. But not one single word about these women. This part of the program…this part of history…THESE WOMEN…should’ve have been taught to us, brought front & center and honored no less than Shepard’s or Glen’s contributions. Makes me wonder…had they been recognized dutifully what impact it would’ve had on the nation, the entire NASA program and the Civil Rights Movement.
While at the outdoor food shindig , you can’t help to notice that bit of southern wit and prose. There is something fascinating about three southern gals with their exchanges and subdued bits of femininity. Three black southern belles.

I've wept every time (there have been six) I've seen this monumental film; this movie should have been made DECADES ago. Ask yourself: who should have been the one great American hero to come forward in the '60s or '70s or '80s to thank and pay tribute to these three great American black women who made such an important contribution to our nation's space program? I'll supply the answer with another question: how many terms did John Glenn serve in the Senate? And yet he kept quiet.
This was an all to common story until the 70's. A LOT of critical work before, during, and after the second world war was done by women that were not given any credit. Everywhere you look you can find examples: code breaking, chemistry, mathematics, physics, system-design, you name it. Add to that just the basic job of making the bureaucracy work: clerks, secretaries, and messengers. Armies need logistics, logistics need bureaucracies.
Can you imagine being called a human computer? Let alone a colored computer!🤦🏾♀️
Fantastic...

It's really a shame that historical figures such as the women in this movie are not talked about at all in school history books. It takes movies such as this one for people to know the truth about whom gave so much for this country just to end up as nothing - not even a footnote in the history books. If more students - especially minority, female students - where to know about the triumphs of women such as these women, life would be far more interesting. How many minority, female women would be protesting at BLM protests today if they were taught about women such as the ones portrayed in this movie while in elementary school when they were still little girls? Everyone needs a hero to look up to in order to reach for the stars.
A story that must be known by everyone - just another example of racial discrimination that continues today in many parts of the USA.
I really need to watch this movie.

Unless your history lesson is specifically about segregation and racism, Katherine Johnson's involvement in NASA's space program would never been known. When major event's occur, it is always the figure head, the person that put's their life on the line that get's the plaudits and recognition from main stream media, never those who work 'behind the scenes' to make it happen.
Late 40’s. Bought the dvd. Found out about it from Glenn Beck.
