    This is fantastic. HIDDEN FIGURES is a GREAT film and the bestselling book it's based on is wonderful, too. My husband and I saw it Three times at the theater. And that is where everyone should see it. It's about the space race and the big screen better lends itself to the scope of that amazing endeavor.

    Just watched this on U.K. first showing I believe. I saw in the cinema on its release and today still teared up at the end and felt euphoric at the same time. A detail I missed at the cinemas was Mrs Vaughan's Fortran knowledge which i yelled at seeing as I too studied this at college. I was unable to gain a job in I.T. for 2 years after college due to it being 'a mans world' and being told I had lack of experience. I went on to work successfully in many other industries but never I.T., sad but true.

    awesome film. I am delighted that the women who were pioneers in the of science and mathematics have been recognized for their exceptional expertise. NASA history is finally coming to light. What a beautiful part of American History. It is my prayer that many people from America and Internationally will have an opportunity to view the film and experience the role African American intelligent women had to take in making themselves a part of the mosaic structure of our democracy. These women gave much to the fabric of America. Lucretia Payton Stewart PHD Emerita Associate Professor department of Educational Policy Studies Georgia State University

    I would like to thank NBC's show Timeless, for giving me a heads-up on Katherine Johnson. I watched the television show and heard her name mentioned. I then went on to google typed in her name, bam the lady's name and photograph popped up. I now watch Timeless every week, because the show feeds in real history (especially African-American history) along with a plot line. As anyone can see the accomplishments of these brilliant women was truly hidden.

I have to say I lived through some of the black's flight and it was hard to understand the discrimination that occurred. I was a little girl and it disturbed me that the blacks have to use different bathroom instead of just bathrooms for everyone.

    At my company, we are trying to increase female presence in IT. We are still struggling to find girls. There are only about 20% of girls going into IT studies at college in this day and age. All girls should watch this

  • @historianKelly

    @historianKelly

    7 жыл бұрын

    mujkocka Can I make a suggestion? I don't mean this to sound cold, but reserve the word "girls" for when you're taking about females under the age of 18; otherwise, we're women. It might attract more women to IT to not be talked about as if we're children. Most of us don't refer to adult men as "boys" as a matter of course, and it just feels belittling, and off-putting, for most intelligent women to be patronized. It matters because you want women to feel like they belong - that's what this movie is about, as long as you have the aptitude, you belong. Everybody is cognizant of how they are perceived by others, language is a window into other people's perceptions of you. I would understand if what you meant was more *girls* should be encouraged to excel in STEM activities and courses as they go through K-12 education, but that wasn't what you meant (though that would be the proper place to start). Help empower women to believe they belong in IT. Katherine Johnson had many mentors from childhood through to her career - perhaps you shouldn't wait for girls *or* women to come to IT, maybe mentor someone who shows aptitude but who may need encouragement.
