Hidden Feature Makes This Light as Bright as Zhiyun Molus X100

The Molus X100 is pretty small and bright, but my favorite Wellmaking 80w LED COB light has a hidden feature that makes it just as bright and it's just as small but CHEAPER and it COMES WITH a Bowens mount, a remote, a great little carry case, a mounting bracket with an umbrella hole AND it takes NP batteries, D-tap batteries and has an optional 14.8 volt proprietary battery that clips right on to the side. It's just as small as the Zhiyun Molus G60 and has a hidden feature that makes it just as bright as the Molus X100. I love these so much, I have four of them! They are so compact, portable and easy to use, I love love love them!

    Thank you for sharing this Marcus....the one thing that gives the edge to the Molus -- for me -- is the bi color aspect and app support....I shoot weddings and having the ability to dial in color temperature is quite helpful...of course you could tape some gels on a daylight LED but I prefer to dial it in...and app support is handy to turn the light off and on from a distance and when atop a tall stand....the Wellmaking does have that remote, which is cool, but that's just one more thing to keep track of on the day...

    I just want to add. The app also does "white balance color matching". (correct me if I'm wrong) Just turn on the app, find that icon where you can do that white balance color matching. Point it at a light source?? (correct me on this). And there ya go. Can't wait to use the Molus X100 at a wedding reception.

    @@RonaldLadao good point Ronald I didn’t know that about the app. I’m curious, how will you modify your Molus at the wedding? Will you try to “grid” the reflector in some way to cut the angle? Markus showed how he was putting the Stella reflex optical fresnel onto the Wellmaking light and I wonder if that might fit on that Molus reflector in some way - either attaching over it or being fit snugly inside? That would probably heat up the light even more than normal but wonder if it might be a work around until they (Zhiyuan) comes up with an option?

    So I went down the rabbit hole here when doing research on lights. I needed a light that was compact, battery powered and bright. I choose the Wellmaking because it puts our over 9,000 lux at base which is 3 times brighter than the molus X100. The molus only puts out 3,881 lux with out the reflector which makes the Wellmaking the clear winner if you’re using it for anything other than the reflector and most of us are.

    Is there a reason you want USBC instead of NPF or D-tap? You can't just use any normal USB-C battery and cable that most people have- it needs to be special 100W battery and cable. I personally hate dangly batteries and cords when travelling, I want the battery literally stuck to the light so there's less chance of acccidental disconnection. I've covered many lights as you describe in recent videos, like the Colbor 60 and the Stella Reflex (which is the brightest of all but has some fan noise)

    Any reason why the meter is set to 1/15th of a second? I was testing some of my lights last night and found some interesting things. But I had mine set to 1/100. But I did find out just now "not bright" my very expensive light that shall not be named was compared to a $250 neewer flapjack light. I never actually tested them in the same room and I was a bit shocked at how close they were.

  • @Double-Exposure
    @Double-Exposure Жыл бұрын

    I am a professional photographer myself, using LED lights as fill in Interior photography, sometimes shooting spaces in daylight and sometimes at night and would love to know why color temperature "doesn't matter". Yes, I am aware that I can use CTOs or CTBs to gel any light to match the existing conditions but that's not the point (nor is it convenient). I have to agree with any commenter here who is pointing out that a comparison between these bi-color Zhiyun lights with other led lights that are either exclusively daylight or exclusively tungsten balanced is neither fair nor of relevance to anyone who prefers lights with adjustable color temperature with similar small form factor and high output. The most interesting part I personally got out of the videos here is that spending $100 more for X100 results in less than one extra stop of output power which makes the G60 more attractive in my opinion than the x100, purely based on value. However - and maybe adding more fuel to Markus' fire - I just returned from a job where I tried out the G60 and my biggest issue with the light was that it does not dim down far enough for my taste. At it's lowest setting of 1% it is still quite bright compared to other LED lights I own. Brighter, when trying to add and blend moody accents in dark spaces, isn't always better. I was very impressed with the built of the G60, the output power and love the square form factor. But alas, it's still not perfect as 1.) I share Markus preference for attachable batteries and 2.) it is way too bright (for my very specific needs) at it's lowest setting.

  • @MarkusPix

    @MarkusPix

    Жыл бұрын

    I said "I don't care" in reference to me personally, not other people who obviously have different needs and interests. But I personally am always looking for the absolutely brightest smallest most lightweight portable light possible because I hike to exotic locations all over the world and do almost everything during bright daylight. I dont care if its bicolor ir dedicated daylight. When i compare lights for MY needs, i compare brightness. I need sheer power. Period. I do not do weddings and almost never ever need tungsten lighting. That's just me, and I make videos sharing my personal journey and experience and opinions. That's it. And I have fun doing it because it's a hobby. I do not get paid or take pictures of other people. I'm just a guy having fun.

    @@MarkusPix My apology. I was actually responding to a commenter (who said that the "color doesn't matter") and not to you. Then decided to post it as a comment and should have edited out a couple things. Regardless, for the reasons stated at the end I also don't love those lights and have since been enjoying several other videos on your channel (just discovered today) regarding portable lights and stands as I am on a similar quest and also constantly looking to make my travel kit more compact and light weight. I have much respect for anyone creating content here and you clearly seem to be having fun while providing lots of good advice. I loved seeing a good old light meter in action and got good info and then some from you. Thank you! My one critical comment does stand though, which is if you go to the extent of making fairly precise output comparisons, I would somewhere point out that the Zhiyun models are bicolor while the Wellmaking 80w is not. Cheers and keep up the good vibes.

Most people wouldn't even notice that after the first month, and you're a very generous guy but you deserve to get something out of this too for the thousands of dollars in gear you regularly give away. Depends what you call "powerful in bright sunlight". Do you mean as bright as the sun? The only thing that bright is a strobe flash or a reflector. You wouldn't want anything as bright as the sun for video anyway because it would blind the person. You need to video in shade. The brightest most portable lights are the ones in this video, but if you want more power, you'd need a couple Stella Reflexes kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWeezrmbaJrPZZc.html

    @@paristo I am a professional photographer myself, using LED lights as fill in Interior photography, sometimes shooting spaces in daylight and sometimes at night and would love to know why color temperature "doesn't matter". Yes, I am aware that I can use CTOs or CTBs to gel any light to match the existing conditions but that's not the point (nor is it convenient). I have to agree with any commenter here who is pointing out that a comparison between these bi-color Zhiyun lights with other led lights that are either exclusively daylight or exclusively tungsten balanced isn't exactly fair. Or of relevance to anyone who prefers lights with adjustable color temperature with similar small form factor and high output.

    @@Double-ExposureThe NP-F style Batteries of the other lights are another con, they take forever to Charge. The PD Ecosystem is conviently small and universal. These Molus lights are supposed to be used with softening modifiers... He didnt testen his hero with that. I don't know, Mr Pix just don't likes the hype, i get it. He also prefers 60fps Video and an classic Videolook. But his Videos are entertaining sonetimes. 🎉

    Where did you hear that? I just tested both the 100 and the 60 with a light meter and the output is exactly the same between 5600 and 4500k, doesn't even change 1 percent. What you describe may be the case in panel lights where yellow and white LEDs are side by side and they vary in brightness to create different color temperatures, but that's not the case with single COB lights like this.

  • @johnnyweissmuller5838

    @johnnyweissmuller5838

    @@MarkusPix it says on the webpage, but I read the instructions and it says illumnance values was tested at 4300K, so I guess that is where it is supposed to be the brightest. (For The X100). The single cob is actually made out of pixels with different color temperatures, just like the panels. In front of the pixels is a diffusion lens to mix them. On the x100, it seems to be rows of the leds. You can see it if you look close, or film the cob with an nd filter while turning the cct value. This is why they are less bright, all leds are not active if you are not dead center in the cct range. But if you say the output is the same over the whole cct range, then zhiyun has limited the output in the middle so that brightness doesnt change over the range.

    Hi @markuspix. Need your advice for cheap and portable flood light. I am in the business of fire investigation. What kind of portable flood light would you recommend for my job, when i need to get into a totally dark room and take photos of the burn patterns and etc - in their true colour. This means that the light should be able to help me reflect the correct light back to me, so that I can see the black burn patterns on the walls and furnitures. About 4800K kind of light (sun). I need them to be lightweight and portable, such that i could take them on board planes for travel to investigate fires. I would typically squat there inside the burnt room from between 3 and 5 hours and hence need one that could last this long. I already have a tactical torch but even though it has 3 different light settings, the picture taken are always overexposed or too low in light level - and the span of coverage is narrow. I had recently seen advertisements of Zhiyun light (which you had covered too) used by video/photo professionals, but with only 30min runtime at max 100W, store.zhiyun-tech.com/products/molus-x100?variant=42185885974708 Should i fall back on using those heavy 50 to 100W rechargeable lights like this: OTYTY 8000LM 100W COB Rechargeable Portable LED Work Light [100LEDs,1000W Equivalent], Waterproof LED Flood Lights for Outdoor Camping Hiking Emergency Car Repairing Workshop Job Site Lighting (W808) amzn.asia/d/8Qub3ju I am all ears from Markus and the audience. Thanks in advance. Andy

    Hello Andy Funny you should mention the X100 look at this kzread.info/dash/bejne/pZOgp9B8hdece8Y.html The G60 is really small and doesn't get as hot, it takes 100w USB-C powerbanks The Wellmaking is very portable, the batteries are small and attach to the side, or you can use a D-tap battery for longer run times Don't use flashlights- they are usually greenish blue and flicker if shooting video The work light you suggested might also be a good safe choice
