I Don't Hate Zhiyun ... Molus G60 cheaper alternatives
Molus G60 and X100 are the newest Zhiyun LED video lights that are very small and very hyped. In the last video, I gave an honest REAL review. In this video, I give alternative choices that are MUCH less expensive and much more versatile with types of batteries used that are great for small spaces, tiny studios, streaming computer setups and travelling. If you want small, lightweight, portable pocket-sized LED lights for photography and video, here are many options to help expand your horizons.
Be sure to watch this video I did on small pocket-sized LED lights • Small Pocket LED Light...

I saw your first video on the Molus and I agree. I ordered the Ulanzi you mentioned in this video for my wife. She wanted something portable to use in the living room while doing her online school. Once she started using it, I couldn’t resist trying it out… I ordered two more for me lol😂. $35 a piece and they work great.
Thank you for more in-depth comparisons with all these new lights!! You really are becoming the absolutel authority on all things travel/portable!!
You need a signature line with one of these companies. You’ve got the practical production knowledge of what does and doesn’t work plus the bonus artistic sensibilities and chops that could probably create some pretty cool form factors for this category of small lights.
You’re straight to the point and I appreciate you and the existence of your channel!
Thanks for all of the very specific panel suggestions
I like the honesty of this guy and the practical solutions he gives. Never in my mind crossed the idea that his lightning setup had the leds with no diffusion. True legend
Markus, when I first discovered you, I subscribed more for your big personality. I didn’t expect to learn so much from you. Thanks
I haven't missed a video all month. You and your wife are awesome. I was thinking about these lights for my next documentary. I may be going overseas and space is key. Your videos have given me so much to think about.
Thank you for your honest thoughts about this. Almost bought these
I just subscribed your channel. I love your straight to point review of different products. Thank you and keep make more videos.
Thanks for elaborating a bit more on that light. Because you’re right, the average consumer doesn’t understand the difference between bicolor and single color panels in terms of brightness comparison.
Absolutely right Marcus! I use mostly one ring Neewer light. I have also cob light and led panel, but the most practical for me is my ring light.

I’ve got one too, and I use it a lot. But it leaves ring reflections in my eyes, partially on my nose. And I can’t take it out in the field.
Great information! Thank you Marcus!
Much cleaner than the first video! Appreciate both
The 100 version comes with a battery...cannot imagine why the 60 doesn't. Nice video...as usual!
Thank you for this video, I was looking for alternatives for zhiyun's light then ur video popped up.
I could see it being super useful for someone that wants to hang out super simply with like a magnet without the extra weight of the battery. Using a long usb c cable. Appreciate all the alternatives though 💡
I actually ordered the colbor that you reviewed. Very bright!
Subscribed. Thank you. In a sea of influencers constantly trying to persuade you that they can speak truth regardless of sponsorships it's refreshing to have honest talk about where to spend your money. I don't want to finance all the free lights they send to some tubers.
I am using "strip" lighting for my green screen, the cheapest lights of all which are 4' long LED shop/garage lights. They work great around the perimeter of my green screen and only cost about $50 bucks for 6 of them. But they also make the green screen look edge light, which it is the way I have them configured currently around the outer edges. But then I have a cold spot right in the middle of my green screen and that's why I was considering these lights. I also have a regular 100w key light through a 36" Godox modifier. There are videos on my channel which show my set up. Google blocks all links anymore, so I can't post them here, but my latest video shows my exact work space. I also have a lighting video which shows the custom lights I made and everything I'm currently using. But it's the cold spot in the middle of my screen that I want to fill with more light, and small but portable is a must because of my very limited space. Cheers 🍻
Great video as always, generally if something is hyped on youtube it means the manufacturer have to cover costs year 1 for sending free units to 1000s of youtubers...
I despise dangling anything from a lightstand as well, I loved every point in your rant! I'm a photographer and yeah, they sure make it ridiculous to find / compare continuous lights lol

I use a small on camera led grid light with parchment paper in my closet streaming setup.
Molus lights are great if one needs to travel with carry-on only and film nicely lit talking heads anywhere - but not necessarily with unavailable wall power. My line of work quite so often. So I'm pondering on getting them.

Did you end up getting some? I'm going on a tour with an artist in 5 different countries and need a very portable light to shoot talking heads but this video made me reconsider paying 200 to almost 500€ for one of these new Zhiyun lights (60 or 100 one).

Markus, I sure wish you would give a complete list of products in the description. You are holding up many items of interest, some of which I might want to buy, but I don't know what they are called or the make/model numbers! If you linked to them, you could make some money, so I'm surprised that you haven't done this. For example, around 3:43, you hold up two wide (long?) panel LED lights and never give their names! I have been unable to find these in the internet marketplace.
Omg, you’re giving away the Stellas??? Please, sign me in! I’m looking for a video light, I saw your review on those, but yes, they are a bit expensive for me. Can’t believe you’re giving away! Thank you so much for this opportunity Markus🙏

Yes of course, I too am looking for the smallest, brightest, most portable lights possible, but external batteries and cords make it annoying. If you want REALLY small and even brighter, the Stella Reflex is even smaller kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWeezrmbaJrPZZc.html but it also needs external dangly cords and batteries. That's why I like the Wellmaking which has the battery physically attached.

Markus, I totally understand that you don’t like separate power boxes and fuzzy wiring. But there may be one reason when it’s beneficial: When you don’t want the additional weight of the power box (or battery or whatsoever) at the top of the light stand. You can then attach it to the bottom and this may even help to stabilize the stand. What do you think?

what is the brand and name of the led long strip light you said cost $150? I don't see it in the product panel
I thought i had seen all tech reviewers but thank you youtube algorithm! You struggling on pronouncing Zhiyun got me good!😂Imo you can put it inside a rig powering it with something like an anton bauer titon base and connect the light to something like a kondorblue or other magic arm. fully understand your issues with this light. Its only cute and small, thats all
Your suggestion Mr. Markus about the changing the Branding/Logo/Name of an device because the consumers will get confused with how it's 'named or worded', has validity. Part of the problem is that the global suppliers (98% whom are Asian), already are challenged with translating 'anything' into English. For example, read any instructions (if there are any in the first place) has wording that confuses one more so than instruct us on how to use. I feel your frustration though with your rant.

Funny- even as close as reading an owner's manual from England here in the States is funny. My Lotus turbo Esprit manual said "Whilst negotiating a ford..." Over here "Ford" is a type of car. @@MarkusPix I found a 380Wh 26w v-mount battery online for around $155, that can be used with an Aputure F22C 200w LED. I don't know if it can be used with X100, the voltage is always higher. In addition, can you compare the X100 with the stella pro reflex s connected to a 100w pd power bank, both lights are 100w, I don’t know which is brighter when using a direct light , an umbrella/softbox I am already using wellmaking 60w and 80w led, but sometimes I still feel that it is not enough, I hope to buy a led that is at least twice as bright as wellmaking
@MarkusPix
Жыл бұрын
The Stella is definitely brighter than the X100- over 2 stops.
It would have been good to compare it to the Godox 60W studio light for the light amount they produce. That also only has 60W written on it. I don't think the main use the Zhiyun lights would be the travelers lighting. In fact you are the only video maker that I see using light when outside on a trip. And it's visible, therefore kinda unnatural. The small lights are mostly useful in small studios where the huge stands necessary for heavy lamps just become a hassle. Counterbalances and what not. It's much easier to setup these plus the already available Bowen type modifiers can be used.
I love panel lights, they work great. And if you want a more directional light, use a grid, and move it closer to subject. I want to sell all my lights with too many cords, it seriously annoys me. I'm just happy that companies are innovating to make them smaller. However, yea forget proprietary batteries. Come on, lower these prices.
The powerbank is probably around 4 to 6x the capacity of that single npf battery, so if you need it to run for a long time it is actually a better solution.

Hey man, since you own one, I wonder if you can help me out. I will TRY not to write a book here! I need to get better with lighting. I aim towards a cinematic/film aesthetic and lighting is currently my achilles heel. I'm also going to be travelling soon and doing a lengthy interview in a relatively confined space. Calmly and quietly looking at this and other alternatives to see if it might be worth me picking one up to experiment with and to take for the interview project. Something that can be used as is, with a simple diffusor, with a softbox. Do you think this one is worth grabbing? Or would I be just as well served by a Colbor (for example)? The small size of this really appeals as it would go into a suitcase. But at the same time, if it's not adaptable enough (even for experimentation) then I should look elsewhere.....
Dude NPF batteries are way more expensive than my old used power bank.
i wish giveaway will open to more countries...
Lol the NP battery is the first thing I dislike, too chunky and doesn't last long like V mount.
