Dear Dr. Matt and Mike, I just wanted to say thank you for what you do. Initially last year I found physiology a very difficult subject, but after discovering your channel (and a few other resources online), I ended up loving it. The way you break stuff down into concepts and make them relevant is something truely incredible. From explaining what pH is, to connecting that to the digestive system to then connecting all that to the biology of proteins, really showed me how learning is so much more than memorising facts, or repeating a process mindlessly. I was so inspired by the way you taught that i actually ended up taking all the notes that I made on my iPad, and made them into a handwritten textbook. And a couple days ago I made a short film, on how I made that booklet, and put it on my channel. It’s not super professional like a real textbook, but I‘d love you to check it out- as your teaching on this channel was the primary driving force in that happening, also I think you’ll be amazed at how education can be enhanced when technology is used to its potential. Hope you enjoy it. Once again, Thank you for all you do. From, Samuel

The best way to get rid of hiccups quickly is to raise your left hand (like you do it at school) and keep it that way while drinking a full glass of water. 100% working

This works for me, take a deep breath and hold it, then slowly count to 100 in your head, or as close to 100 as you can before you need to breathe again. Works every time for me. I only ever get hiccups if I eat my food to quickly

Yoh Doc thank you so much after watching 4 videos including highly rated Dr OZ it's only your video which came through for me all previous videos spoke about drinking water, teaspoon of sugar or hold your breath, your video was practical and after taking cold shower my Hiccups just disappeared i was worried on how i'm gonna sleep as they were constant for more than 2hours at 1 hiccup per 7 seconds mostly, i really felt like i was gonna get a stroke or lose my breath, my girlfriend said thank God but i said thank Dr Mike and thank Science, Salute.

When I am put under anesthesia and am intubated by the anesthesiologist for surgery, I leave surgery with painful intractable hiccups that can only be stopped by a 50 mg injection of Thorazine. I believe that the nerve that is irritated is the vagus nerve. Any suggestions??

Thanks that was all very helpful to what I'm going threw RiTE now with Chronic Hiccups and Vomiting from SpinalCord Damage and been with out any answers for 12years up until recently when a G.I. Doctor the Hospital's ICU finally puts 2 & 2 together with my Severe Nerve Damage (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) to my SpinalCord which is causing my Phrenic and Vagus Nerve to be in constant spasm and it's the worst thing ever cause everything seems to trigger the hiccups even just talking beeing something ya never would see coming as a problem with Ur inner organs, hiccups start the reflux, and then Ur PUKiNG Ur GUTz up which for 12 years and the damage it caused from episodes or flair ups it was here and there 1 a month or every 2 month but would last for days easily to 2 weeks, stop and some time with in a month or 2 period come back and go threw this INSANE SHiT all over again.... This cause so much damage to my Stomach, Diaphragm and Esophagus along with my Deteriorating Central Nervous System and SpinalCord Herniated disc now for the past 6 yeats straight I Violently Vomit up to 30 times a day... Nothing stays down, Food and Water, Medications barely work and I'm Puking that up too if it doesn't do it's thing B4 it comes back up... I gotta force feed myself all day long like it's my job, just to try and get some kinda Nutrition in my body B4 the next toilet hugging goes down.. I WiSH someone reads this and knows something to fight this Horrible Health issue this is.. Been reading up on Chronic Hiccups and (CVS) Chronic Vomiting Syndrome and that's how I got to this vidoe... This was all very informative ,it gave me some more understanding of these Nerves than the Doctor's I've been seeing have done so far... Now I have more questions to ask and hope this info gets me further along to get my health fixed cause Hiccups, Stomach and Digestive Disorders/Syndromes and Vomiting are beyond Debilitating and this shit is literally Killing me and SUCKS Serious ASS!!!!!!! So thanks for the Video My Man... Any 1 wanna comment back to if Ur experiencing a similar situation and have answers on Meds that worked for ya I'ld love to hear it... So far for me Pain Meds (Dilaudid) 2mg or 4mg 2 tumes a day make a huge difference and Valium (Diazepam) help with the Hiccups BiG time but cause the world is all Fuct up and all these Restrictions on Meds like these its impossible to get or have a Doctor keep prescribing which I understand, I wouldn't wanna lose my Medical License for No1 either, but when U have NO Quality of LiFE cause Ur so SiCK on Ur Death Bed daily, some of these Doctors really need to take a Stand for their patients B4 these laws kill more people and is happening more now than the Drug Addicts that abuse the shit.... AnyWho, those 2 really help with the Debilitating Stomach Pain and Hiccups and Zofran with Omeprazole too if all 4 are taken daily.... It's no Cure but it helps.... That's the Best I got, Peace

Many relate to that being the major thing. But theres still no conclusive theory on what triggers them. My opinion yes it is probably the main thing and once it extremes stuff as hyperventilation occurs. But also there are other stuff as spicy food that triggers them.

I had a couple hour hiccup and couldn't sleep. Holding breath didn't work for me this time. So I have just tried and found a new way to stop the hiccup by opening your mouth wide , do a lower belly breath out loud quickly until no more air inside you, you will hear the sound and feel tickle at your throat and cough. I did it 3 times straight, the problem is solved. Hope this helps.
