Hiatal Hernia Syndrome | There is a Cure

In this webinar, you will get a deeper understanding on what a hiatal hernia is, how we have had success treating it and the best solution for you.
Webinar Summary:
Hiatal Hernia Syndrome can be effectively treated by addressing the root cause through a personalized program that includes normalizing and treating the gut, addressing structural effects, balancing and toning core muscles, and considering nerve involvement.
00:00
People with Hiatal Hernia Syndrome often experience a range of symptoms that are misdiagnosed as stress or acid reflux, leading to ineffective treatment and compromised digestion in the long term.
04:35
Hiatal hernia syndrome can be resolved by addressing the root cause, which includes normalizing and treating the gut, addressing structural effects, balancing and toning core muscles, and considering nerve involvement.
07:51
Food sensitivities and poor diet are internal causes of hiatal hernia syndrome, and testing for imbalances in the gut can alleviate symptoms such as bloating, gas, acid reflux, constipation, and diarrhea.
11:47
Hiatal hernia syndrome has various root causes and requires a tailor-made program to address symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and panic attacks, as conventional medicine's approach with antacids is not effective and has negative side effects.
15:08
Hiatal Hernia Syndrome can cause intense gut symptoms, even in small or subclinical hernias, and there are myths that there is no cure or natural therapy, but this is not true.
17:23
A personalized program is the cure for Hiatal Hernia Syndrome, addressing the root cause rather than relying on drugs, with an emphasis on the body's ability to heal itself.
20:16
Committing to lifestyle changes and identifying the root cause with Root Cause can successfully treat Hiatal Hernia Syndrome, resulting in symptom resolution and improved sleep and energy levels with an 85% success rate.
22:38
The root cause hiatal hernia syndrome program is tailored to each individual with an integrated approach from a team of doctors, and a free 30-minute consultation is offered to determine if it's a good fit for the patient.
Get lasting relief from your symptoms through treatment at Root Cause Medical Clinic - the #1 Clinic Treating Hiatal Hernia Syndrome Naturally

My brother and I cycle in nearby mountains. He was diagnosed decades ago with a very moderate hiatal hernia. But it only ever bothers him every few years. He just puts some water in his mouth and drops hard onto his heels while gulping down the water to resolve that. He used to sometimes experience a very short, sharp pain in his upper-left chest between the throat and the nipple. He would then experience palpitations for about 10 minutes. He would finally burp and all symptoms went away. He learned that if he quickly swallowed a fizzy drink before cycling, he would then burp and have no more chest pain or palpitations cycling up the hills. 2 years now and no more problems.

It saddens me that are health care system is so messed up in the U.S. Doctors really don’t care. They are stuck in their ways and just want their work day to be over like everyone else. It’s a shame we pay so much in healthcare costs for poor quality help. I salute this doctor for thinking outside the box. 😁

Omigosh 1000xs worse in SA. All I have learnt has come from alternative drs on US on internet and Dr Gupta from York in UK. The struggle just makes one feel hopeless when all drs. here look at you and treat you as if its all in the head. I have even developed lymph cancer in psoas, which I swear has to do with longterm ppis and this is the 1st time in my journey of trying to find answers, which began 2011, that I have even heard psoas is connected to this problem. I always feel like info comes one puzzle piece at a time and sooooo slowly, with constant searching, that there are times I could howl with hopelessness and frustration, especially seeing I cant get any dr to listen to me or take me seriously.😢😢😢 Thabk you for this channel and info I hsve just found.

Im in Cda. My family of 6ppl are without a gp for the last 7yrs. When sick its ,either ER or private Drs.that hav u pay thru the nose. Private issurance is worthlesss since we are supposed to have ntnl health they dont cover much, so you end up paying twice, once thru your taxes and then repaying in private care. Drs. decided to profit from their turf as much as poss . So we get less and less svce and their costs keep riising.....

It’s great that your practice helps to correct the root causes of the problems. I recently started to limit all sugar from my diet including cutting out bread, baked goods, junk foods and fried foods. I eat Salmon, Cod grilled chicken, eggs and vegetables. I also fast for 16 hours a day. I have GERD, Hiatal Hernia and Fatty Liver Disease. The American Diet is to blame. Some Doctors only prescribe drugs, but do little if anything to help people solve the root cause. I was told many times that my panic attacks and palpitations were all in my head. I wish I found your practice much sooner.

I have experienced so many symptoms for the last 10 years trying to explain them to drs or close family/friends & it’s so frustrating because people tend to think you’re crazy, when in fact you know your body & you know something’s not right. Been to primary care on a regular different specialist & hospital visits to only diagnosing anxiety & obesity. I don’t have allot of heartburn unless I eat something to agitate it I really don’t experience allot of pain with my hiatal hernia either but I do experience all the other symptoms & it’s just getting worse. Thank you so much for all your videos after all these years I finally have the answer😢

I have Spinal Imbalances with Cervical Instabilities, which are affecting so much in my body I am a sufferer for decades! I'm 72 and much of this all started when i was 31 or so. I point out that per a Cervical MRI - my first taken - in 2012 denoted that I have a More Narrow Than Normal Spinal Canal. According to the Mayo Clinic - only 5% of the population have this abnormality. With the amount of OA in my spinal discs, DDD throughout, Lumbar / Thoracic Dextroscoliosis of 25 degrees (created by a Leg Length Discrepancy of a 1" shorter right leg as a result of a Femur fracture in 1966).

The root cause for me was childhood trauma. After spending my life savings on how to manage my hernia without surgery I finally figured out what caused mine. Once I addressed my dysregulated nervous system caused by trauma and did some trauma release work and used a device called Iqoro and following Pam Fox's hiatal hernias, I am finally living a pain free life and can eat anything I want now. I have also stopped drinking alcohol and anything with caffeine because they relax the muscles around where the sphincter is. My years of drinking lots of both didn't help matters any. My heart goes out to anyone who has a hiatal hernia that is causing them any pain, reflux, anxiety, insomnia, SVT, or more. It took me nearly 20 years to figure all this out and I am so happy to see people like Dr Vikki Petersen addressing this often over looked health issue that 99.999% of health professionals do not know how to treat.

You're welcome. It will be important once you get your results to get to the root cause of the hiatal hernia and thereby be able to wean you off the antacid (PPI) successfully. The long-term problems associated with PPI use can be dangerous. There is a root cause if you'd like to address it. It's fine that you live in Europe. We offer telemedicine across the U.S. and in some countries in Europe. If you'd like assistance please contact us at 727-335-0400 and we can set up a consultation. Wow this has opened my eyes to what has been a problem for me since 2018.. My initial symptoms where feeling bloated and chest pains which caused me to panic thinking it was a heart attack I was diagnosed with stress panic disorder and prescribed ssri’s which I refused to take.. I coped with the panic attacks and became anxious not knowing when I’d have another episode and have managed to cope since that point.. Ive always had acid reflux but usually treat this with over the counter antacid treatments and thought nothing of it untill recently i had what I thought was a sore throat from hell which wouldn’t go away.. Went to see gp and was referred to endoscopy to find I have a 2cm sliding hiatal hernia and barrats osophagus.. The syndrome to speak of is exactly what all my symptoms are since 2018 and the doctors never picked up on it at that point and said it was mental health issues. Every symptom you said I have had for a long time now and i now realise the pressure in my chest the bloatedness and shortness of breath are because I have thos syndrome and have been mis diagnosed back in 2018.. I just need to work out how to get this sliding hernia to go down and to stay down becauese even at 56 years old I have fabulous core strength and regularly go to kickboxing and mainatain a healthy weight.. My diet is appalling to be honest and this is what’s caused gerd to begin with but ive leant more about this condition in one video than any doctor could have told me for years thanks for this info I feel I can try to resolve something now that I know exactly what it is I’m suffering with ❤❤

I have now gained about 10 lbs. and it is not going away. I exercise and try to eat properly. I do have a VA doctor who sent me for an endoscopy and results were normal for pathology and for my CT scan. Report showed a Medium Hiatal Hernia. I also now have neck and shoulder pain. I started taking 250 mg of simethicone for relief of the bloating , gases and pressure. I anticipate another appointment with my VA doctor so that we can discuss this further. I'm not able to eat nearly as much as I used to and have cut back on fatty foods. Just hoping for better ideas on how to treat !

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I can relate to 95% of this informational video. I went to the ER and they said I was full of stool and sent me home with magnesium citrate and a script for colace 100mg twice daily for 10 days. I do feel constipated (not able to fully empty my bowels and less frequent bowel movements), however, my main complaint is epigastric pain. Right under my breast bone. Some gerd but nothing crazy and some heart burn. I also get this weird wheezing feeling on occasion. I eat a whole foods diet with plenty of water and fiber. I had to eliminate fruits and honey because they caused me to have sharp pain along with the constant ache in my diaphragm. Also burping frequently. Leading up to the constant dull ache and occasional sharp pains in the epigastric area, I felt a weird sensation in my esophagus. Like something was stuck in there. I do intermittent fasting and often eat a large meal in the evenings. I can't do that currently as I get severely bloated and get heart burn. The dull ache weirdly subsides for a little while after eating only to return a couple hours later. I do get heart palpitations as well... I should mention I was on SSRI for 22 years and recently got off of them(15 months ago) but have been having a ton of psychological and physical symptoms. It's been a rollercoaster ride in hell, honestly... I have a few appointments with my PCP and a GI doctor as well as a naturopath doctor this week. I live in Bradenton . It looks like you're close by. If I get the diagnosis I'm thinking I'll get I'll probably reach out to you for help in the near future. Very Blessed to have found your video! Take care.

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia 25 years ago. I’ve taken some kind of proton pump, inhibitor that entire time. I’ve been able to eat what I want drink all the alcohol I want and live and do whatever it is that I want but here lately that omeprazole, I’m taking doesn’t seem to be working the way it supposed to be.

This is completely true what you say. The worst is still when we don't sleep well our toughts are affected and if we had bad habbits then the stronger paths in our brain are still most ofen chosen unconciously and bacause of this we eg eat each meal bigger (even is a bit bigger and healthy, it doesn't matter !, even you have great ABS muscles and entire body) than we should again. We do so many other things which we shouldn't because of that disrupted mechanism, a chain triggered by dysregulated body - mind connection. It's like a neverending loop. That's the biggest issue !

Have you figured anything out 1fancygirl? I'm in the same boat. Going through the change of life is bad enough but having a bad gallbladder from losing too much weight too fast and having a sliding hernia is just too much. I'm so down and beaten. Doctors here in Canada are quite USELESS. Went to ER but they did NOTHING. Now i have to wait 3 weeks to see my doctor who will not let me go for blood work during these 3 weeks to see if I have some kind of infection. It's a $hit show. I might not make it to the appointment, not feeling this bad. I'm going to try taking mastic gum to see if that will help. I KNOW i have something bad going on in there so I'm desperate to help myself.

@suesmith2398 I changed my diet and that has helped symptoms. No gluten, wheat, dairy, coffee, caffeine (except in green tea, small amt), soy, oats, sugar alcohols (sorbitol, etc), and I watch my intake of all sugars, especially cane sugar. I also dont eat late at night anymore, and have started eating an actual breakfast instead of my protien shakes. Learning about how glucose works in the body has been very helpful (glucose goddess - youtube), and regulating my blood sugars was key to many symptoms. Ive started (slowly) drinking kombucha daily, taking digestive enzymes, and that has been helping too.

I wish I can do the program. I've had hiatal hernia and GERD, ad well as pretty much all the other symptoms mentioned in thise video, for over 15 years. I was taking PPIs for almost the entire time. My GI just switched me to something safer last year because he finally listened to me when I said I was worried about long-term side effects. Every meal makes me feel bloated, and I can literally feel all of my organs pushing upward. I get short of breath a lot after eating as well. My quality of life is just awful, and my symptoms are just getting worse, and my doctors are no help at all. I wish there was a root cause clinic near me.

And put together the pieces myself. Whenever I asked if this might be linked to my heart/lung/stomach complaints - and always was met with a shrug and no.

So, it s a bit odd that you don't include that in your videos

Unfortunately because big pharma, main stream medical and insurance companies are all holding hands and sharing profits. Medical practitioners who utilize the functional medicine practices (treating the cause, not the symptoms) are not covered by insurance. Hmmmm. This is unfortunate but these functional medicine practitioners still need to make a living. It simply is going to cost the consumer more

I consider my fundoplication surgery a success. I was having terrible acid reflux and regurgitation, only partially relieved by omeprazole. The only other symptom I had as this progressed was severe iron deficiency anemia (hemoglobin of 4). I had none of the other symptoms you described. Post surgery, I had to go back on omeprazole due to trouble swallowing. I don't know why this happening, because the endoscopy shows that things are healing, and no Barret's esophagus. The PPIs keep the dysphasia in check, but my bone density scans show osteoporosis. As you say, every case is different.

My pulse drops to the low 50's but my blood pressure gets very high. A nitroglycerine tablet seems to give me some relief. My cardiologist didnt find anything wrong with my heart. I was diagnosed with a moderate hiatal hernia . I had suspected that it might be some kind of esophageal spasm causing my chest pains but I couldn't find much information. Neither my cardiologist or gastrologist were interested in discussing the possibility a correlation. I'll be ordering your book, because my instinct is to treat the cause not the symptoms as you recommend. Thoughts?

It seems to have no rhyme or reason sometimes it will happen for a few days in a row, then not again for a month or so. Sometimes I have the tummy thing with no heart palpitations. but I don’t think I ever have the palpitations without the tummy thing! Rubbing or pushing downward at the hiatus area seems to help so it’s definitely related!

If I lay on my right side, I fall into a deep sleep REM. However, this is when I often wake up nervous and breathless and sometimes experience extreme tachycardia. I have talked to my cardiologist, GP, endocrinologist etc and of course there's no answer. They say the symptoms are unrelated. Yet, when I sleep on my right side I feel I'm causing compression to my stomach, pancreas or liver. It is difficult for me not to turn on my right side during sleep because I have a difficult time falling asleep most nights. I was eventually admitted to hospital due to diabetes and dizziness where I was told I had VVS and was prescribed anti-vertigo medication. It doesn't work and does not solve the problem.

My mother just passed away, they said they saw lesions on her liver, they just passed it off as cancer and wouldn't treat her, they were going to drain her lungs, but instead they decided that it will fill back up anyway. They wouldn't feed her nothing for the first 5 days in Detroit Henry Ford because they were going to run tests, but she didn't like the taste of the solution, she was begging to eat, by the 5th day she was so weak, i made them give her food, she ate like a horse, by the next day i thought she had a stroke, no idea what happened, but the doctor said she was just tired. I told the doctor i sent all her records from st. Joes over to HF, his reply was that he didn't have time to go thru 84 years of records, i said i just wanted him to look at last year because i noticed it said she had a moderate to severe hiatal hernia, he said that hiatal hernias aren't serious, i told him yes they can be and that most of her symptoms seemed like it was from that. I could go on and on the nightmare of how she was treated, she walked into the hospital, frail, but talking and walking, on September 15th, she couldn't communicate after a week, and was dead by Oct 11th. 😢

Hi Dr. Petersen, I was diagnosed with HH by a GI specialist who did an endoscopy some years ago. After the procedure, he was rushing and all he did was make me lie down on a bed in the ward and give me a brochure about HH. Then he left! He did not tell me what HH does to me. Now my symptoms are worse. I wish I lived in Florida but I live in British Columbia, Canada. I am wondering how a consultation with you would cost...

Hi, I'm 67 yrs old, I have had severe acid reflux for yrs. Yet I always did try to eat healthy. I'm 6 foot, 210lbs, could lose alittle weight, I used to jog alot, yrs back and I recently started jogging again. Anyway, my doctor said I have a hidle hernia, she wants to put me in anti acid medication's. I have had pain on the middle to right side, right under my rid, and radiates to right downward alittle for 8 mts now. Where my gallbladder used to be.

Hi Dale. I happened to be putting up a video and saw your comment. I'm not always so punctual! Acid reducing medications are not the best approach. Since you aren't yet on them I would very much like to speak to you before you start them. They have side effects and sometimes make the issue worse since, believe it or not, you can have reflux due to too little acid. What I recommend is that we set up a consultation and do an in-depth history and figure out the best approach to resolve the hiatal hernia for good. You've enjoyed good health, there's no reason you can't continue that. Please consider calling us for a consultation: 727-335-0400. We have a high success rate and would be delighted to help you.

Thank you. Are there some situations where a hiatal hernia is caused through injury or history of child asthma? And in those cases. Could the hernia be repaired surgically (not LES surgery)? In other words, is it always an underlying condition that causes the hernia?

There are genetic hiatal hernias. Injuries such as car accidents can be another cause. I typically see those related to gut imbalance however.

Can you please tell me if there's anyone who does this in the UK? I'm fed up of visiting the doctor and my only option being omeprazole or surgery - only if the reflux is deemed bad enough to fix and then they'll fix the hernia at the same time. This is even the advice from a private surgeon. After examining me and listening to my many issues, pains, lumpy areas between my chest, stomach and bowels, that something else must be going on because it can't possibly be the hernia. He never did suggest how to figure out what those issues were nor did he seem interested in my non issues 😞 at 40, that should not have been the response I was given. I have that many problems, I now don't know what is caused by the hernia and what is something else. I feel I have aged by 20 years in what I am now capable of. I'm getting so much inflammation around my chest at the minute that I think I've got some problem with my immunity too. What is the full list of symptoms please? Should I be getting tender swelling in my throat? Any advice or links are much appreciated. Thanks.

@@DrVikkiPetersen my endoscopy revealed a 1 cm hiatal hernia. I am a competitive cyclist, so I am very healthy and I have a good diet. I am not sure how many lifestyle changes I could make. I had the flu in January and ever since this hernia has. Wrecked my quality of life.. the surgeon at the VA tells me a 1 cm hiatal hernia should not be causing my symptoms but after collecting multiple second opinions, I believe the surgeon is wrong.. I am checking all the boxes for hiatal hernia syndrome. Also, I believe I have LPR or silent reflux and seems that it’s the pepsin that is escaping as a gas and is getting trapped in my larynx and my sinuses. I have constant daily sinusitis with post nasal drip.. I have not experienced any acid reflux. My quality of sleep has been also significantly impacted. In addition, I have been experiencing some lower back pain and I am starting to question has this hiatal hernia somehow impacted my. Sciatic nerve, since I just learned from you that the sciatic nerve is connected to the diaphragm.. periodically I have experienced the back spasms that rate a 10 with 10 as the wors. The sinus symptoms often feel like there’s some sort of infection in my sinuses. I’ve already been to the pulmonologist. I’ve already been to the cardiologist. I’ve already been to the respiratory therapist, and none of that worked. Sorry, what I meant to say, is all of that checked out. I have an upcoming appointment scheduled with my G.I. doctor to revisit this and I am trying to do as much homework as possible. I am not trying to rush to surgery but other than the mechanical Heidel release technique what solution is there really other than surgery? t

Never took the first pill. Everyone called me idiot. Now my 20 year old son is suffering. He went to the doctor and first thing they prescribed Zoloft. He didn’t take it but still won’t listen to me about lifestyle. He keeps saying everyone else can eat this and they are fine. I’m not giving up on him
