    Yeah, it's not a super new feature at this point, but it was new to me when building this ship. Definitely going to add that to all my ships moving forward.

    I always like the idea of 'drive pods' or other appendages which are built to accomodate the major functional parts of a ship, because it can easily give your ship a distinctive shape. Grouping thrusters together is an obvious one, but you can also think of a dedicated hangar area that takes up a certain amount of space or a reactor section that is kept far away from the habitable areas of the ship "for safety reasons". Or landing pads that have some minimum amount of clearance and light shapes to accomodate for "approach patterns". If you role-play some requirements for your blocks it can give you a really good incentive to shape your ship a certain way.

    True. I like unique ship designs that have "functional" reasons behind them. I've been making more and more slightly asymmetrical ships recently for this reason, and I really enjoy them.

    This is the Ultimate Challenge Ship it's got methods for every given challenge and scenario you throw at it, and can easily be fitted with many different modded items that only need, say, an open conveyor port or a small space on your ship. well done! 12/10

    A Interesting little ship... reminds me of when i made a small grid Escape/drop pod. it was interesting to fit everything... but i liked it for being compact for a 2x2x3 space. but well done on the small ship! (Small Grids are underrated, change my mind.)

    @@ShiftyshadowTV I've also tested a few ideas in creative, but for some reason all of my small grid ships really should steer clear of pirates. Seems to me that combat is very brutal towards small grids at the moment. It's so much easier to make something combat viable (but ugly) in large grid.

  • @ShiftyshadowTV

    @ShiftyshadowTV

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, small grid ships get shredded quickly. They need to be extremely mobile so that they can dodge basically all incoming fire or stay out of range. Large grid is the way to go for combat, Small Grid is the way to go for detail. That's why I say this isn't really a combat ship, even though it has quite a few guns. It might be ok against a casual pirate in a small grid ship (or space suit), or for sniping something. Against a large grid or a dedicated small grid fighter you're better off running though.

    I quite like this small ship design. I has a nice exterior shape and the interior, while small, is very nice. This would make a nice short range transport ship or a shuttle craft for transporting materials. My one criticism, more of a nitpick anyway, is that there isn't a way to access the engineering area with the piping and thrusters from inside the ship. It's not primarily a combat vessel, so it's not as necessary, but it would probably be a good addition. I don't know how you would do that without changing the ship's profile though. Awesome looking ship, a well designed, if small, interior and very functional for what you'd want to use it for.

  • @ShiftyshadowTV

    @ShiftyshadowTV

    Thanks! I do like the idea of an engineering room, but it would definitely require a design rework as there is exactly zero empty space in the back part of the ship. It's a solid, efficient, functional brick. XD One of my next designs maybe.

    @@dragonmaster1500 You should, it's great. I use it on all my ships (big and small) because it's so easy to set up. One sensor set to close both doors when is detects you entering or leaving its range, that's all.

    That would be interesting. It would certainly look cool, not sure how practical it would be though. Mostly because this ship would probably be shredded in combat (small grid light armor). Gatlings are there mostly to keep space suit pirates and missiles away.

    You can actually connect through welded ones too, I just like the way the unwelded ones look (as if you could pass stuff through them). And they keep you from falling into the connectors. Any thin block works I think... you could probably completely hide your connectors behind panel blocks if you wanted.
