Opium production reduced dramatically when the US invaded Afghanistan causing a global shortage. One side effect was less customers for so called drug treatment clinics and driving up corruption in that industry.

There is a story that that Ammonium nitrate was a shipment to an African country for making fertilizer but the shipping company owner who was Georgian was low on finances and decided to dock in a lebanese port to carry more cargo and was unable to pay for docking fees and employee salaries on the ship and decided to abandon the cargo and the ship.. The cargo was consficated by Lebanese port authority an placed into one of the port's warehouse..for a long time and then disaster struck.

Interesting series, all about money for weapons. Are there any nice countries in the region? US foreign policy since 1945 has created all these extremist states.
