You really should not be quitting any paying job during a pandemic. A lot of people are out of work, which means there’s a huge supply of labor out there to easily replace you. Part of being an adult is pushing through situations you may not always like. Sometimes you have to ride the bad out until you hit the good. I am TMM's age, and believe me things can get rough but things can also get better if you set yourself up for success early in life. I've been fired, laid off, completely broke, living in my parents basement, thousands of $$ in debt, doing shit jobs until I found a paying job. I am 35 now and I make $120K a year, own my own condo in Miami, have a great gf. It takes times but you have to push through

He never said he should quit on the spot. He said he should try doing the same job for a different company or try a new field. Maybe I am being pedantic, but I wouldn't classify getting a new job somewhere else and moving there as "quitting". Quitting a job implies leaving without having another job lined up.

Being in a job you hate also forces you to be disciplined in taking the steps to switch to what actually fulfills you - in fact, the more you hate the job, the better since you'll have no excuses to waste time. Being comfortable in a job you like makes you lazy to opening yourself up to new facets of you.

Keep your head up my friend. I'm only 22 and I've dealt with this personally in the past. Reason for it was because I was always comparing myself to my best friends. Right now my friend who is also 22 is married, has nice cars and has his own house while finishing up college. He kept achieving more and more over the years that I've known him and I couldn't help but feel that I was doing something wrong. Problem with this mindset is that you don't consider how drastically different your lives can be. My friend was determined to achieve theses goals when he was young because he saw that his parents never got to experience these things growing up and they worked hard to help him achieve those goals. Whereas in my case I was discouraged by my parents at a very young to peruse my dreams which caused me to spend roughly 4 to 5 years lost and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I only recently started going to school for game design whereas all my friends have already completed college and have really nice jobs, but I'm okay with that because I've stopped comparing my success to theirs and spent more time supporting and being happy for them while being happy for myself knowing that I have a goal in mind despite how long it took me to find it.

I needed to hear this myself. I’m turning 22 next month and I’ve didn’t go to college and been working jobs I didn’t like and I’m still working a job I don’t love or very much cause I feel like I could be doing so much more. In America were so pressure to go to college but the truth is idk what the hell I wanna do with my life. I barely make any money to live only to pay bills. The road at the moment seems or linear and I don’t like it. Most of the time I feel like shit cause I have nothing of my own other than my car. Hopefully I figure what I wanna do in the years to come cause right now I feel lost. Only things I really like to do are playing video games and driving cars. There isn’t much else that’s peaks my interest

I'm 47 and have had a ton of different jobs in my life time. Majority of them I didn't care for. Especially the gloomy depressing warehouse and hard labor jobs. Lucky for me I finally stumbled upon the perfect job that pays well and suits me. As the saying goes.. Every days a vacation if you love your occupation. When you feel this way about your job you will stick with it and be happy you quit that last job. Unfortunately some jobs we really like don't pay well and if thats the case then you might have to sacrifice and compromise your pursuit of every day happiness for better pay until you find the job that does both for you.

I Used to work surveillance until I got promoted. I would say that security is somewhat of a lazy man's job that conserves energy so I can do other things like go to the gym. Unlike hard labor jobs that can exhaust you. Yes there's cons along with the pros but over all when I compare my job to all the others I've had. The cons seem petty in comparison which is why I've stuck with it for 12 years now.

Very encouraging words from a man that knows how hard life is. Whatever you have today make the best of it don't dwell in the past if you're 20 or 40 like TMM said concentrate on what you do best and make the most out of it, being a janitor even being just a shoe shiner is a job and be proud of what you accomplished. I still remember Jackie Chan's interview when he was young and just a poor stuntman he said one day I will have that kind of bike pointing at a great motorbike and look at him now. Strive always like a nuclear bomb that little molecule can explode to greatness.

Regret is the worst feeling in life but there's no point in stressing about the past when you can't change things. Also most people do what they have to and not what they want to, that's just life. Just be positive and put the work in and usually good things will eventually happen.

While I do agree with his sentiment of not following social expectations, due to automation, the job market is changing, so that people need to go to college or trade school to find a decent job. Having job without any education, such as trade school or college, is becoming increasingly hard, which is why many policies of bringing blue collar jobs to the US does not work. In the end, many tedious jobs, such as cooking, writing news articles, government documents, factory jobs, etc. will become obsolete, while jobs that require creativity and intuition, such as engineering, art, science, fictional literature, etc. will increase in demand, especially science and engineering because of its connection with production and economics. I think people should follow their dreams and have fun with life. However, people need to commit to something at some point in order to get better at it. I think trying to do something that you are truly passionate about will not always happen, but becoming a master at something, regardless of whether you enjoy it or not, can be rewarding. Then again, enjoy life for what it is and don't expect more from it. Sorry for the super long rant.

I had a similar crisis last year, I was almost 22 and at that time I had a job with children care (I love children, but these jobs are not always how they should be), that drained my entire energy... So much so that when I came back home I would open my ps4 to run Dark Souls 3. I was not investing my efforts and time in art like I promised myself I'd do. In my opinion, everyone IS special. Some people are fit for jobs like a janitor or a waiter, others are fit for academia, and others, like me, are fated to work on whatever lets them express themselves. If that means you don't get money out of it, then so be it; eventually, you will. The thing is, sometimes in life you have to do things you hate, and those things are so valuable and important that being unhappy for a while can result in great success in the future. To mention one of my favorite quotes: "not all those who wander are lost" - J.R.R. Tolkien. Have a conscious mind and take care everyone!

Mainman, ive learned that people do not listen to advice such as this, no matter how many times you tell them, they will ask the same question over and over again. When a certain person asks something like this, they are afraid of doing what you say they "should" do because they believe its a risk no worth taking. Im no genius or anyone to voice this sort of opinion but in turn i feel like your advice that you are giving now is going to be wasted away, granted, you are a streamer and an influncer in the tekken community and you also have quite the viewership so it isnt completely terribly wasted away because it might help someone but i want to believe that this certain person that asked the question will not take your advice, which hurts because you try to help them and they say "nah". At the end of the day, we all live different lives and what we do with it is our choice, good or bad. The point im trying to get across is you'll get asked the same questions over and over again and give the same answer but no one will listen. Hope you have a good day!

Should you really be asking a scrupMan for job and life advice? Now what you should do is listen to me; a random youtube commenter. Let me give you some good life advice, son. (Im joking for those who couldn't tell, and this post is long because I personally have been there before) As a person who recently received his MBA from a top school, I can tell you that just about everyone who went to the program did not go there to achieve their goal of becoming a CEO or the next steve jobs. The vast majority of my classmates went to the program for reasons such as finding more meaningful work, exploring their personal potential, or wanting a more meaningful work title. This showed that the vast majority of people were using the MBA as a means of escaping their current work or life situation. However, what most, if not all, of my classmates found is that there is almost no such thing as a dream job. In fact, almost all jobs involving an employer are not set up to be personally meaningful in the first place. They are set up to serve some end user. So when people explore the question of what they should do with their career, or what job they should get, they inherently forget that there is a conflict between what they find meaningful and the requirements of the job. I bring this up because at 22 years old you think that a degree and a better job will make your life better, but im here to tell you that you just face different problems. While your financial status will certainly change, if you don't know what makes life personally meaningful you will just find yourself richer and less happy. But finding what is meaningful to you takes time. I can't claim to be an expert on this subject, but as someone who has lived on this planet long enough to go through what your experiencing I feel I can tell you how I would think about the problem now if I were in your shoes. There is a thing called Maslow's hierarchy of needs which states that people need the following in order to feel fulfilled in their life: basic needs (food, water, shelter), safety needs(job, financial security), social belonging(friends, intimacy), self-esteem(status, recognition), and finally self-actualization(be who you feel you are inside at your maximum potential). If you notice, most people get caught up in trying to achieve a few (money, status, food and shelter), but neglect things like friends, family, and personal development. The best approach I have found is to try to build a life or routine that aligns all these needs because when one part of your life is in chaos the other parts tend to suffer as well. Knowing this, I would suggest that you continue to explore what you find meaningful. By explore, I meant try to do something that will enable you to find your talents. Open a business, learn to code, build things, learn an instrument, it doesn't matter as long as you are putting in real mental and physical effort to fulfill the needs mentioned before. As you struggle, you will learn more about yourself which is how you go up the hierarchy of needs. At 22, the doors of opportunity are wide open to you and I didn't get my bachelors until I was 28 when I started to find out what I wanted to do. I don't regret it either because a lot of people end up getting degrees and jobs they hate, and are saddled with soul crushing student debt in the USA. I hope this was useful and not so vague. I think the hardest part of this problem is not knowing what the problem is, putting structure to that problem, and solving it in a systematic way.

Wow... I did not expect to see asking for advice from a gamer for direction of life...I suggest you also read some astrology to check if your zodiac bring you fortune in the coming years. Having a job is already a blessing today, you should be grateful to still be employed during this tough time. If you are living in northern Europe, I congratulate you to have the best social welfare safety net in the world, supported by the rich oil field in the North Sea. But, people in developing world are far less fortunate that you, who even have free time to think about whether you like or dislike your job. They have only one purpose now: It is to put the bread and butter on the table! If there is any advise, it would be "quit whining!".

U don't work u don't eat . Life isn't a video game. The more u grow up the more ur responsibility grow with u !!! Poor guy he need some serious orientation from adults

@@Ace-of-spade 22 years old is considered as young? I highly doubted. He should have come of age to think for himself. I agreed with Main Man's comment that the later generation has been pampered and always been given high regard even having achieved nothing special. Somehow it intrinsically made them feel like they should always take things for granted. Of course, they are not the only one to be blamed, the prior generation should take some responsibility of the problem of the coming of age generation. But, the reality is that he should give up any wishful thinking. Having no skills on any trade as well as no academic background really tagged him as not fit-for-hire. Manual labor is so much easily replaceable in these days, it is no doubt unwise to quit his job. As far as how deplorable the situation may be, I do believe this pandemic situation is a wake-up call for him to really act on his situation. The biggest asset he had is being young, that means more possibility in life. The very first thing I suggested is to stop whining, and be positive. If time allows, do some sport or get some sunshine. Staying in the room, looking at the monitor and asking an youtuber won't solve any real life problems.
