Yes it’s so stupid. Not a fan of mojang at all, also for other reasons as well. Also it bothers me how inaccurate the depiction of squids are in this game. Shouldn’t they actually bother making them true to life??? It’s also bothered me how polar bears aren’t aggressive unless they have kids. Polar bears are one of the few animals that do not fear us and will actively hunt us, they are very dangerous.

I guess I've never really thought about that but you're right. Minecraft has like 4 different types of stews(technically way more if you count every type of suspicious stew) and yet there is only a single pie, and a single cake. Apple pie would be pretty good, and it would be cool if you could make a kind of berry pie with wild berries or glow berries(would make those into a viable food source).

Given how many things have changed since apples were introduced, an actual apple tree doesn't seem like too much to ask.

"Apples, Golden Apples, and Enchanted Golden Apples have been removed due to their lack of a real life counterpart."

I absolutely agree, if this were a modern Minecraft addition it wouldn't be added because "Oh oak trees don't grow apples like those". I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few updates we see apple trees introduced in the biomes oaks also spawn in.

There have been a fair few mods back in the Beta and early release days that did that. But the reason oak trees drop apples is because they're not really oak trees. That came later. They were just trees.

Can have apples from trees that don't produce apples, but can't have 2 pixels of ambience because some IRL species kill some IRL frogs. (yes I'm making this about fireflies again, I'm not the only one) I swear, Fireflies are the Azure Flute of Minecraft. Azure Flute puzzle is "too complicated" for pokemon players, but like, Pokeblocks, Poffins, Regigigas in ORAS, they've done worse. Fireflies are toxic to frogs if they eat them, so instead of just having them exist in the world, they remove them entirely, despite the game being filled with such inconsistencies.

Duuuuuude! Imagine, apple tree, spawns naturally at a small chance, yields 18-26 apples, with a cripplingly small chance of dropping a sapling. Making this a one-time treat. On the rare condition you get a sapling, or even find one in a dungeon, you can then grow your own, but they’d be slower to grow, as not to overpower any other food sources. With enough luck, and enough dungeon grinding, you can make yourself a reasonable orchid!

That's how Minetest Game (a free Minecraft-like) does it, and I agree it would make more sense than having to break the leaf blocks.

And red mushrooms with white dots are poisnous, add yellow mushrooms and make those eddible and make the red ones be used for poinson.

There's a mod called Croptopia where Apples and Oranges generate in special leaf blocks. You don't have to break the tree to get the apples, but when you take them you need to wait for another to grow. That makes SO MUCH more sense than vanilla and your take on it. Too bad it comes in a package of over250 nre crops tho, I wish it was a small mod only for Apples.

As soon as phönix said "Bad Apple" I flinched. Surprised there was no Bad Apple played!

Adding apple trees as part of a forest update would definitely make a great addition to the game.

I think it would be cool to have it be like sweet berry bushes. It grows on the tree until it's ripe and can be harvested, with different stages of growth like the other crops. It would be cool to see that implemented. Oh, and they only grow when on the tree so you can't just have a wall of apple branch leaves to harvest. So you would have to make an actual orchard. Oooh I actually really like this idea now.

Well you can grow apples on a oak tree. You just need to cut a branch of an apple tree ( with flowers on it ), and tape it on a cut branch of an oak tree the fruit wilk grow but it will be awful.

No, you can't. While tree splicing is a real and common thing, the different species need to be close enough related in order for it to work (from the same genus, or at the very least from the same family). Oak trees (family fagaceae) and apples tree (family rosaceae) aren't even from the same order of trees....sorry

Fun fact: Oak galls and iron are traditionally combined to make black ink or dye for wool. I made myself some lovely grey gloves earlier this winter with this method, out of rabbit and goat hair. Super soft.

Dude I would love to see a system where you got different fruits from trees and bushes and stuff, it would be so fun to go picking oranges and lemons in minecraft

I have oak trees with oak "apples" where I live, these ones are made by a fungus. they're these light puffy white to cream colored blobs and are hard and smooth on the outside, but inside they are full of fungal spores, pretty gross to be honest. at first glance they look like eggs of some sort, but you find them stuck to the side of the branches in the trees, and they fall down every once in a while, where you can then pick them up.

I love Phonics SC. He helped me to read and write

Honestly they should do that for all the trees. That way the “saplings” can be used for more than just fuel and regrowing trees.

Shears are the only ones that make it faster, and I don't think it can drop apples or sticks then.

natura is a mod in a pack i was using that has blueberry bushes you can right click. Those apple tree's leaves look perfect for that

I respect Phineas (South Carolina)'s love for Miniraft apples.

We have a lot of oak apples where I live. They make a satusfying crunch when stepped on or run over with a bikeand emit dry dust. They do not feel or act like a fruit to any degree.

The gals or oak apples were used to make black ink due to the tannins, mixed with iron oxide (rust) it turns jet black. Some of the oldest remaining medieval manuscripts were written with it like the pearl manuscript. The tannic acid means it has burned much of the paper it was written on away.

If anything, you could probably crossbreed, splice, and graft trees over multiple generations to create a fruit-bearing oak tree.

@@Jehty_ they have to be related you can’t graft two different types of trees. they have to be within the same family at minimum and those are very low rates of success even same genus fail oak and apple aren’t even in the same family.

Its worth understanding that before the word Apple became synonymous with the titular fruit it used to simply stand for the word "fruit" itself - for example, a tomato would be considered the "apple" of the plant, and in some languages the potato is literally translated to "apple of the earth". While I doubt Notch had any of this in mind during initial creation - and likely added the apple for simple game balance - I just wanted to share a lil' fun fact with y'all 😂

I had no idea that oak galls were called oak apples in some places. I live in Houston, and over the past decade a few new species of gall wasp are found each year here just on the campus of Rice University. The live oak tree in my mom's back yard is always covered in red and yellow galls for about a quarter of the year. It would be more correct to say a gall is the plant's immune system working. Kind of like how part of a rat's immune system forms cysts around foreign contaminants to protect the rat, trees do the same thing with parasites. It's just that these particular parasitoid wasps have evolved to use the tree's immune system to protect their larvae.

I think the apple trees would visually be a lot better if instead of each leaf being the same and having a one in X chance to drop an apple, you just had only one in X leaves be the texture with the fruit on them, and those guaranteed drop an apple. You could even make the apples regrow and be harvestable via right-click, similar to the berry bushes! Alternatively, have fruit trees have completely normal-looking leaves, but if there is an air block below a leaf that is a part of a fruit tree, there is a chance for a harvestable fruit to spawn in that air block every random tick.

Phoenix's name is slowly evolving it was Phonix then Peenix and now it is Phönix.
