They need to cut the bottom of the box as well to let the air out. Otherwise you'll get a vaccum seal when trying to get the other box out.

Riley is such a minimalist he uses a pen as a knife. That is minimalism. Invisible hats off to you good sir (because hats have no use in my minimal life. I use a leaf off a tree as I pass by to shield my scalp from UV rays... PHOTOSYSTHESIS).

It works pretty well with my old Google home. So you don't need to worry. But you're right they should test it.

I have a few Minis and an old regular Home one but I'm latino (hence I have an accent) and when something is playing and circumstances are not perfect it gets definitely harder to trigger the assistant. When no music is happening, it works like a charm. So if that got improved, it would be a really compelling argument to upgrade even though I like the design of the old one more. The Apple Homepod mics work way better in that regard, in my experience. I would really like to see if there was an improvement.

@@tsartomato they honestly don’t really collect dust, I’ve had a google home mini since they came out and dust kinda stays off of it, probably because it vibrates when used.

At first I thought it wasn't Linus, but he read the note addressed to Linus and didn't point out that he's not Linus, so I guess this is Linus now.

Does the Mic mute switch actually disconnect the microphone or does it just tell the software to stop listening? This is important because if the switch disconnect the power / data connection to the microphone then it can’t be turned on, even if the device is infected with spyware. IOT Devices don’t exactly have a good reputation for security.

When google first released the idea of Google homes, the mic switch was first a button. With large feedback they turned that into a dedicated switch that physically disconnects the microphone from communicating with any other hardware module. Hope this helps

Plot twist The switch for muting the mic is just for the speaker to stop responding to "ok Google or hey Google" but it still listening

I like that speakers are getting the L&R STEREO feature. This is something that a system for the home has had for a while and now we have it again. I love marketing, I truly do.

NOTE: According to the Google Store website, this product does NOT have adaptive space audio, only the Google Home Max does

The discontinued Chromecast audio was discontinued for exactly that reason!

I really love my google nest hub max. We got it at the start of lockdown and it's been invaluable for my kids to make video calls.

I’m impressed, the green’s actually really pretty!

I'd love to see a setup with two of these as a stereo pair and a google home max as the center bass driver. That just sounds awesome. Possibly put some google home mini's in the corner of the room to give it a bit more of a crisp and clean sound.

I've got two Google Home Max units and in Stereo pair the latency is terrible for anything but music. I've now hooked them both up separately to a bluetooth receiver which drastically reduces the latency. I'd be interested in how the new generation performs for other use cases than streaming music?

This video was a lot of fun. Riley == Funny

I got a pair of these a few days ago. Sound quality is slightly better than one Sonos One, but they have more of an "annoying little Bluetooth speaker with the Bass turned up too loud" sound. If you're gonna spend $200 on speakers you can get way better sound with "proper" speakers, but the whole Googly-homely-ness of these is super convenient. I've started just using these for podcasts and phone calls, and (very conveniently, with voice) switching over to the Chromecast powered living room setup (with big KRKs) when listening to music.
