    As long as ads are: aggressive, intrusive, or malicious, there will be adblockers.

    The future of privacy depends a lot on ourselves, because we're the customers and the end users. A lot of power is in our own hands.

    Hey DT, please note that google "gracefully" 😂 provides a skip button for the ads after few seconds, at least on mobile app...that said, the ads are 99% bullshit. I am definitely not buying more useless stuff or invest in some weird get rich scheme just because they advertise it - quite the opposite is true!

    KZread displays multiple ads in a row, and the first one almost always cannot be skipped.

    Hi there, Been a long time since I put a comment to any video since I moved to libre youtube. I want to add a point to last question about privacy. I do also think we are now at turning point. I'd say most developers, and possibly some tech enthusiasts, are now aware of privacy and surveillance issue and it is being brought up into general public. Plus, Privacy is now one of big merits that a service can implement, and I expect we'll see more services such as proton mail. Some of these will get really popular and become number one app on whatever they're trying to achieve.

    #HeyDT! Not a question, but a comment/answer to what you said. Regarding adblockers, Linus from LTT, did not said that it is bad and immoral to use adblockers. He said that it is (non-debatable to him) piracy to use adblockers. And specifically mentioned that piracy doesn't mean immoral or bad. It's up to you and each case if it is bad or immoral etc or not. It's a very important difference.

    Question: why does arch installation guide looks so simple in the arch wiki, but I feel that it is missing something, I used Endeavour OS for about 6 months last year, and I recently got a new laptop and I want to switch to Arch because I don''t feel very good using Windows, and I fear that I get stuck when installing it (+ my laptop does not have LAN port)

  • @Irremnent

    @Irremnent

    Arch Wiki actually goes through every necessary step for a minimal system imo. The only problem is that in some cases it says “you have to do this” instead of “here’s how you do this” (i.e. it tells to use fdisk to partition your disk, but assumes you will look at the fdisk page to learn how to do that.) Other than that, it only goes to the point of installing a non-graphical system, you will still need to install: Display server (xorg or wayland) Display drivers (amd/nvidia/intel) Desktop environment or window manager (too many to list) Display manager (too many to list) Sound server (pulseaudio/pipewire) Network manager (iwd etc.) And at that point you’d have a workable system and could start installing the applications you want to use (web browser, text editor). There are other things you will want to look at installing for convenience like pacman-contrib and reflector which help with system maintenance, but at that point you’re better off discovering those on your own because it will aid in your understanding of your operating system-thus making future problems easier to solve without help.

    @@Irremnent it feels challenging, seeing youtubers doing 20-40min long installation videos then finding that there are only 4 or 5 steps in the Arch wiki, I feel confused, specially because I only have one disk so I have no possibilities of playing around and I have to bear in mind that each time I erase the disk I degrade the SSD a tiny little bit

    @@user-xz5uo8qz1t when you boot into the arch live environment use the command "archinstall" or whatever it is now and there is an install script. check that command i gave to make sure its correct first but yeah, the install script lets you pick a few options and does it all for you.

    SomeOrdinaryGamers made an Arch installation guide not long ago, I followed through and I can tell, it's good, altho he used Xorg instead of Wayland, but if I can switch from Xorg to Wayland on my Void linux, you can too, better even because of the Arch wiki. So if you need a video guide, there's your go to.

    Using a Remote Desktop shouldn’t be that slow. The windows Remote Desktop works fine, if they can do it Linux devs should be able to do it. Then there’s tools like Kaseya, endpoint central, goverlan, etc.

    How do we propose that KZread make its money then? At the end of the day, it costs a lot of money to host all of these videos. KZread has to make money otherwise it will get cancelled. No one company is going to lose money providing a service.

    On the other side, services like youtube take a lot of money to run (servers, diskspace, power etc) People that do not want to watch adds can pay for youtube premium and have no adds at all. To accommodate those that do not want to pay that subscription fee, KZread lets them watch what they want in exchange for them watching adds. That way they still pay (in time watching adss) without having to pay money. By enforcing the ban of using add blockers they do exactly what you said in re-evaluating their business model. Because people watching without paying, either by watching adss or paying a subscription fee is not sustainable. KZread is a business that sells a service and not a free provider of that service.

    I was happy to pay for KZread Premium, but then they started messing with the algorithm, and started de-monetizing some of the creators that I subscribed to, things like that that they hadn't been doing before. So I canceled the service and started using adblockers. Basically its a form of boycott. My KZread experience got worse after I started paying for it. It should get better, not worse.

    I’ve seen the de- monetized complaints or fear of being de-monetized by most of the channels I subscribe to, it’s a very sketchy sounding impossible to understand policy and I’m sure there are political and censorship motives involved as well. I try not to focus on this too much as together with the clown show the Government has turned into it’s just not good for your mental heath.
