    Impedance matching. These drivers are so small, the more you can port load the driver, the more it can achieve. 6th orders, T-lines are very capable, I'd like to see what a horn in this form factor could achieve, though I imagine it'd be a nightmare to fit into the build plane of a 3D printer. Folds galore.

    These videos are really unique and interesting because they 1) demonstrate how 3d printing can be an enabling tool in the advancement of other hobbies and knowledge domains and 2) because Hexibase is capable and intelligent, but not a dedicated 3d printing expert. This gives a really interesting look into what is practically achievable for a hobbyist that wants to use a printer as a tool, and does not want to invest a ton of time into becoming a 3d printing specialist. For years now, almost every commercial printer has been capable of producing excellent parts in the hands of an expert or specialist, so the evaluation criteria needs to shift to what it is capable of producing in the hands of a competent generalist.

    So I went ahead and got me a printer after watching your v.2 build. It was my first print ever so there was a lot of trial and error. I got it done and opted for an internal bluetooth circuit amp and power supply input as the only externally visible connection (Pics on thingiverse). This is doable, thanks to you Sir! Just finished v.3 for my desktop setup the other day. Got a Dayton Audio DTA-2.1BT2 100W 2.1 for a dedicated sub channel and 2 satellites laying around AND THE SOUND IS AWESOME!!!! The dual subs don't even break a sweat, so I'm working on a remix now to take advantage of my 310x310 build volume. Will post on HexiBase Thingiverse remix page once complete with specs.

    Hexibase, how tight the wall of that plastic box are? In the past we worked with 3d printed stuff at work and water was capable diffusing thru the plastic walls. Did you used sealant paint inside? If there is air diffusion thru the wall the Q factor of your box will drop a little bit and you might loose efficiency right? Just like the old aperiodic vent with diffuser to extend LF if i remember correctly and make it les boomy ?

    I really enjoy your channel. Been a subscriber for a while but really didn't get hooked until you combined 3D printing with enclosure design. I would love if you could get into the theory and practical design side of things. I've gone through almost every single WinISD youtube tutorial online but I don't think WinISD can support complicated enclosures like the ones you make (T-Line, etc). I'm looking at using a Tang Band W5-2053 and it's other slightly beefier cousin in a small car foot well enclosure. Whatever ported box I design seems to have a steep drop off after 40hz. I'm just a total newbie hobbyist and hope you can do a video on box design! Love the channel, thank you!

    I am really looking forward to see "something bigger". Like a 8 or 10" sub. Maybe you could also try to replace the flat top and bottom with a sheet of plywood or similar. This would greatly reduce the print time and also reduce the chance of warping. Or would the mix of materials have too much of a negative impact on the sound quality?

  • @natalietrinh381

    @natalietrinh381

    I'm thinking of experimenting with this once I have access to a makerspace again. I'm also thinking that it may be possible to intentionally do a no bottom layer print at no infill and thin walls, then post print, mixing an epoxy/sand composite (or even mortar) in place of the infill. This would, in theory, reduce the amount of filiment used (let's admit it, it's not cheap), and replace it with a stiffer material with more mass. Might even arguably be easier to produce than just a straight up print.

  • @aaronb1138

    @aaronb1138

    The design is really simple with all straight walls and small enough to just make from 1/2" MDF or plywood and perhaps some large dowel stock routered to shape if you want to replicate the port entries while adding a form of stiffer bracing.

    I'm pretty impressed! I rebuilt my printer and was looking for some large prints to try. Printed just about perfectly! I did have a bit of problem with the corners lifting, but that's my fault. It goes under my desk, so I'm not too worried! I also had to sand the tongue and groove to get them to fit together. Also my fault and I haven't fixed that yet! Also... Don't use 5 minute epoxy. It takes too long to cover the whole joint! I just barely made it. I pared it with a pair of the Back Horn sphere speakers with Tang Band W3-1364SA speakers I had laying around. Sound great! I'm powering them with a Fosi Audio BT30D-S with 50+50+100 watts. This speaker makes a great setup for my desk! You'd never believe this was 4 3" speakers! Sounds so much bigger! I can't believe the sub makes so much bass!!! Hexibase, you’re amazing! Thank you so much!!!

    @hexibase I'm curious what the db level increase is for the blue box. Just by adding the speaker you increased by 3db (double the speakers, or double the power). If you got more than 3db increase, then the box design is more efficient...though it does have a nasty resonance at around 80Hz. Perhaps some fill would mitigate some of that.

    so i am curious to know...would a change in filament material (say carbon fiber) change the audio response of these designs? i know they are concepts and "bigger" things are coming...but was just curious to know about any possible tonal changes with the construction material used...

    I honestly wonder if these acoustic chamber techniques could be applied to guitar speaker cabinets in order to improve bass response for small combo amps, and why nobody seems to have tried it yet.

    Once again, nice design. One quick question; I'm sure you have covered this in one of your previous videos, but how can you measure the response without anechoic chamber? Do you use near field measurement or something else?

    Using a 4 order band pass for a single 18 for home theater where is the best place to locate the wiring to prevent port noise and best location for the terminal block on the outside of the enclosure?
