The Whittington chime uses all 8 chime tubes. The hour strike has its own tube. The tone and resonance of the sound is much better in person. The iPhone does a great job but cannot capture the true quality of the magnificent sound produced by this 9-tube classic 1979 American made grandfather clock.

it has such a peculiar aesthetic. wow i never realized how much i like clocks.
Hurrah! What a wonderful and pleasant sound of musical sequences at every quarter hour and hour strike following the fourth quarter on tuned set of tubular bells!
probably my favorite/best looking clock I've ever seen. Hope to have one someday.

It takes me back to when I used to play the carillon in the belfry and I would ring all of those different chimes, Whittington's, Westminster, Titums etc, I don't now but every time I hear bells my heart just melts. I would ask the Vicar if I could play fight the good fight at weddings but he would never let me or the tune to Steptoe and son if they arrived in a horse and carriage but he never would, can't think why 😀, i used to love it at Christmas because I would chime all the carols but I can't ring now however those memories will always remain. 🤗🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶.
The first chime sounded like a wedding theme
I've heard a lot of clock chimes but this sounds absolutely beautiful, if I was the proud owner of that clock I would feel like I'd won the lottery. 🤗🎶🎶🎶.
The hour strike started way too early, but very beautiful sound of the chimes and gorgeous clock.

1980’s were built very well like my Sligh and also the trend. Nowadays they use crappy wood and they are east to get nicks in them
I'd be interested in hearing the Canterbury melody, haven't come across that one yet!! Beautiful clock, by the way! Always liked Herschede clocks, though their movements can be quite finnicky!

talked to some folks running a clock store, and they told me french clocks are more tempermental than Herschedes

From what I know, there probably is no such thing as a clock with only the Whittington chime because that’s the secondary type of chime for a clock while Westminster is the primary one. In other words, if a clock only has one type of chime, I seriously think that it would have to be Westminster no matter what.
Its so huge then a Howard Miller but Sounds good
Something is off with the strike- it started striking while chiming.

Nice clock, but tubular bells suck compared to chime rods and coil gongs. Also, the movement sounds like it needs some maintenance work done.

They're getting more and more rare since the company who made this clock is out of business. I saw one with thirteen tubes in it go for around $9,000.

The melodic striking seems to be straining to keep moving. That is why notes are often played later than they should be to the point of not even being finished before the hour chime starts. I'd say the mechanism needs a bit of service/lovin' ... not a huge deal, nothing is broken, but clocks like these occasionally need that kind of "tuning", like a piano needs regular tuning.
More tubular bells
The whole song pins are in the wrong place. It’s striking 45 at 15 then it plays normally and the hour strike is chiming before the end of the song so you got some misplaced pins and what might be broken bushings.

not sure about the song pins but the premature hour strike is common on Herschede hall clocks made between 1968 and 1982

Great ear! I had to go back to pick it up. Best heard at the end after the last strike, the ‘tic’ is a little quick compared to the ‘toc’...Sounds like The strike fan needs to be adjusted just a bit to slow it down too...I like the sound of the bells with the door closed, helps to deepen the tone just a little...beautiful clock, a great piece to own.
