Herring Fishing - HOW TO SETUP A SIMPLE SABIKI RIG - Simple Fast Fish Rigs

Herring Fishing - HOW TO SETUP A SIMPLE SABIKI RIG - Simple Fast Fish Rigs. Herring fishing like any fishing can be as simple or as complex as you make it. The herring fishing I like to keep simple. But no matter how you cut the herring fishing you need a sabiki rig for herring. A five drop sabiki rig is fine with me but if you are looking for maximum yield you may want to double or even triple the drops as many people do. Remember if you lose a triple herring rig you lose 3 rigs and another 10 bucks in flashers and lights. I will often use a flasher which is optional. Many folks will use 2, 3 or even 4 with multiple rigs along with flashing lights. For long casting you may want to leave the flasher off and work with a single rig. I have no preference to the brand of rig but often pay attention to the hook size. Large hooks are better for holding those herring on the way up. Smaller may be better for hooking up with more herring. A US size #6 or #4 is my preference but #8 is quite ideal.
Most the time I just use what I have laying around. We set up a simple sabiki rig for herring in this video so you get an idea of the rig used. When you take your herring fishing to the next level check out what the herring high hooks are doing and you will be filling up buckets before you know it. Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way!

    For years, I had been using the larger sabiki with no success. Last month I used the smaller 1 inch white sabiki and caught 5. When I cut open their bellies, I found 1 inch white minnows or shrimp-like things in there. So my mental note for fishing Jersey is to use those next December. Do you find they hit bigger sabiki later in the season? Or is it a matter of trying a few different sabikis to see what they are preying on at the moment?

  • @FishYourWay

    @FishYourWay

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good stuff secret asian man some good points and question. I think the smaller do get more fish too and you are better off with them. But when up in the air I really like the bigger hook. I just orderd some smaller sizes so hope to use them when they get here. Most the time the style and size of sabiki is just what I have. I dont go to nuts with them but the bigger sabiki has a bigger hook that hols that herring coming up 30ft. They will eat shrimp and minnows like you say and found greens and pinks work the best

They make much newer ones now i think they are up to the 9 or something but this really got a ton of miles on it and still works so I would highly recommend the gopro brand. You can get the new ones out there but ebay still sells the old ones for much less I think the one I use would be no more then 100 bucks and you may be able to get the white or silver for less the 50 bucks now. Mounts sold separate. I like the chest and you will need a case and high quality sd card batteries and charges. sometimes the packages have them included. The settings I use the white or silver do all the same. Hope I been of help Ron!
