Heroes in History: Ocelotl

Ойындар

I BEG YOU TO WATCH ALL THE WAY TO THE END!
This video is not monetized, so please consider supporting the channel and me through my patreon, teespring store, and superchats.
I am so glad to finally have this video finished. Ever since I saw the theme for this season, I knew exactly what the hero would be based on, and I think all of you did too...but I still wanted to make sure I take my time and learn a bit more. I'm glad I did. I was reached out to by an Aztec historian, I got to read up on some information I was unfamiliar with, and I feel I learned a lot.
But even with that said, I will admit there may still be more I don't know or that I got partly wrong. This is still new territory to me, and I confess I'm still growing in it. I wanted to share this with you though and hear your thoughts!
Thanks to MajoraZ for his help.
Again, please watch all the way through the meme montage at the end for maximum Oonga Boonga energy.

Why would they do it? Some of the most interesting facts about aztecs were quite dark and questionable, and portraying a "victim" culture (i don't think anything like this, i think they were not saints but even if they were , thinking about cultures as just victims is patronizing) like that is politically incorrect .

I'm glad that a hero like the Ocelotl found his way into this game. A macuahuitl has blades/splinters made of obsidian, which means they can cut pretty deep and you can saw someone in half with it. Since obsidian is very brittle it makes sense to have an aditional weapon but I think that a Quauholōlli would be a better choice. Why? The spear tip is also made of obsidian. A quauholōlli's head was made of wood, rock or copper and therefor more durable.

There is so little we know about what was its mostly fairy tales. But the human sacrifices DID happen, but clearly not as much as many early historians would report.

With regards to the Aztec practice of human sacrifice, there's something I've heard about sacrifices that were made to the various Aztec gods/goddesses that I would really appreciate if anyone (especially if they're of Aztec descent themselves) could confirm or disprove. I've heard that the one god of the Aztec Pantheon that you absolutely did NOT make any human sacrifices to was Quetzalcoatl. The reason for this is because Quetzalcoatl is the God Of Nature, and as such he viewed human sacrifice as the ultimate crime against nature.

  • @American.Crusader

"The worship of Quetzalcoatl sometimes included animal sacrifices, and in other traditions Quetzalcoatl was said to oppose human sacrifice." I am from Native Mesoamerican decent and it does vary depending on who you talk to but here sums it up quite well.

In watching a lot of gameplay of Ocelotl/Jaguar Warrior lately, I've noticed that two pretty important pieces of his gear that he would have had historically are actually missing from the For Honor version. Firstly, he's missing his Ichcahuipilli, the cotton vest that would be worn as armor after being soaked in saltwater brine to harden it (this thing could easily repel arrows, and there are even accounts by Conquistadors of it being able to stop musket bullets). Second, I notice one of his finishers involves using a blowgun, but he should also have a perk/feat that allows him to use an Atlatl as a ranged weapon. This one is honestly kind of the bigger issue for me, as Aztecs were VERY famous for their usage of the Atlatl. Any thoughts on whether or not you would have liked to see these items used by For Honor's Ocelotl, Raven? (Edit) Dammit, I REALLY hate when I post comments so early in the video that they end up being about subjects you mention LATER in the video.

@@RavenKnightYT one last question of opinion, do you think with astrea’s tyrannical war path in contrast with Apollyon’s teachings in human capability and nature, that there will be a season cause if I’m correct you claim that chimera is practically no more or nearing the cusp of destruction or defeat, plot armor may have a say and if so cause you mentioned this twice in Apollyon vs astrea and if Apollyon return, that she would be disappointed that astrea abused the lessons of war to further her own agenda. Do you believe that there will be infighting within the ranks of horkos the true wolves of Apollyons blackstone legion to realize that astrea is false in her claims, much like how you voiced the sermons of the black priors in regards to questionable loyalty to horkos or the deviation of vortiger? The very legion that followed the ideas in the very beginning that built foundation for horkos could potentially could destroy horkos in the end? So I just went through the official lore for the class, and it actually does acknowledge the human sacrifices practice and the warfare the Aztecs got up to. The reason why this adaptation of the Aztecs looks 'harmless' is that apparently that cataclysm in the game's backstory made them tone it down on all the sacrifices, if not outright stop with all of that. Doesn't change the fact that historically speaking the scale of it was pretty fucked up (there's still an argument over whether one particular ceremony in the 1480s that featured the sacrifice of eighty thousand people was a massive exaggeration, and that's without getting into the argument over if it even happened!), but that's besides the point.
