Hero Mavrick 440 | Better than the Harley?

Cheapest 400cc in the market but is it actually worth the money? In my opinion, it is for the people who do not have any idea about bikes and just want a bike with a good road presence and also cheap to maintain.
Hero Should have brought the Xpulse 440 out first and then released an entire line of bikes after.
Also, do let me know in the comments what you think about the Name "MAVRICK".

This is a long stroke cruiser segment bike and it does a lot better than the REs and Hondas in this segment in terms of power and torque figures and feel. As for as Harley 440 goes, this feels much more agile and nimble due to its 17 inch wheels, gives more confidence due to fatter tyres. The 2nm drop in torque is not felt much honestly if you did not read the spec sheet already. The rear ABS kicks in a bit early I think due to unloading of the rear when using both brakes where the front bites harder. Using only the rear locks it and therefore the ABS kicks in early. But I think I see it as a challenge the bike is throwing at me and I'll be happy to tame this animal; like shumi says, it'll keep me more engaged than bored. I always double tap to horn so a weak or loud one doesn't make a difference. I tested 4 different test bikes from 4 different dealers and I red lined all of them and felt no distinct vibrations whatsoever, only a powerful grunty feeling and I come from Honda unicorn experience and was about to buy the h'ness a few months ago for its refinement. Rider ergos are perfect for me as I don't like rear set footpegs, not good for long rides, knees take a beating. Weight literally disappears once on the move but you'll feel the heft when zigzagging thru traffic, again it's understandable for a huge 440cc machine. I did not like the mirrors, looks cheap. Being able to do 100 at just 4000rpm is a boon in my books as I don't like 6th gear screaming at 6000 for the same speeds like the 300r or the triumph 400s. This does not feel as top heavy as a dominar and also has a great turning radius. The auto headlights is a useful feature too. The dash while disproportionately small offers excellent visibility in all light conditions. No Ave fuel efficiency reading is a bummer. The tach while tiny is still better than not offering one at all like the REs and Hondas. Triumph's are no bigger either. The suspension is actually great according to me. The rear feels a bit floaty at high speed undulations due to bad rebound damping but does a great job at all speeds otherwise. People love the exhaust note but I prefer silent bikes, thanks to my unicorn experience. I do bird watching and sneak my bike into very silent places around lakes and dense wooded areas, so a silent bike suits me better. People complain about the rear looks but I find it practical and functional. It won't complain one bit if you shift gears at 3000rpm and ride in a very relaxed manner but at the same time rewards you with a lot of aggression if you shift after 4500 or 5000rpm in each gear, easily reaching 130 plus. Yes you'll feel some heat but it's to be expected from an engine this size. No switches on the left hand side to toggle thru the trip metres, even in the top model is another bummer. Otherwise the mid variant screams value for money in every sense. If I was a you tuber, I would've demonstrated everything I've mentioned above in a nice video but for now, its limited to only comments on random review video.

Maybe your bike was faulty..if not then this is far from truth. Most of the stuff is same in this and harley be it gears, clutch or horn. So how is the clutch hard? The suspension on this is tuned at par with harley.(rear is actually better even though its not gas charged). Agree that Harley feels more planted due to USD, but this is good. Bike doesn’t wobble or vibrate till 110 kmph, tested on multiple test rides(there’s some buzz). Maybe You should have checked other test bike to confirm before putting this out , unless this is what you wanted. You can do better, just a bit more effort to understand why something is made the way it is.

You were provided with a very bad demo bike, but Mav440 is much more faster and flickable that HD 440. The suspension is very well balanced, with 17" front tire size it is very nimble in corner and heat management is very good.

This is interesting... Since this bike had more development time than the Harley X440 which again is interesting since nearly everyone said it was good in terms of vibrations. I guess hero's beautiful quality check ups screwed up the bikes. And yeah...somehow a proper cruiser has a better top end than the naked.... Which is again weird..

Oh yeah, Hero had been working on this bike way before Harley even came into picture. I feel the timings had matched and hero struck one of the biggest deals they could with Harley Davidson. Shumi had quoted, "Indians are coming from smaller capacity machines, so when they try bigger bikes like 400cc machines, they complain of vibrations whereas on the other hand, people abroad start on 400cc machines and since they don't have experience on smaller capacity motorcycles, they would get used to that vibration quickly and not complain of it. All I'm trying to say is, a person who would buy the Mavrick would be someone who is upgrading from a 100cc bike and he/she would definitely notice the vibration and complain about it. This vibration is quite normal for reviewers, people who ride big bikes and also people who are directly jumping on this bike with no previous experience. But for the ordinary man, this vibration is a lot. Haha yes, Hero completely messed up with the engine tuning part and the suspension part (in my opinion) only the lord knows what they'd do for service. A totally weird bike which would only suit very few people. Haven't seen one on the road till date.

@motorcrit shumi quotes absolutely makes sense until you realize the X440 has the same engine... And the fact that even in shumi review the bike had absolutely no vibrations whatsoever. Which makes you think, is this vibration based on the user or hero's beautiful quality check ups

Even I did say that the X440 had no vibrations. During the media ride hosted by Hero, some of the reviewers did complain of vibrations which might have been caused due to Hero's quality checks and/or a few other small irregularities. Personally I feel there is a lot of vibration in the bike but could vary in intensity depending on the Rider's perspective.

@motorcrit yeah.. I think hero is off to a good start with the karizma but the 440 maverick and the stupid decision to make the blank space a different color on the switch gears, literally feels like it's an optional you didn't pick like... Why? Make it like the karizma that was sleek. But again the direction of the brand is slowly climbing but really hero? Million badges saying it's a hero, be proud in the product not the branding on the bike

why does the Mavrick even exists, if hero would have saved time designing this and rather went on with the xpulse 400 project with more importance it would have made more sense because the xpulse 400 is already an hit bike everyone is anticipating it to under cut the standard adv prices in the 400cc segment plus hero's service network. Well, I think they had to test the engine on a bike and get feedback before they put it on a bike that people are anticipating. In case, they released the Xpulse, people wouldn't have been satisfied with the bike causing it to be an absolute flop. So I feel, it's better for them to release the Mavrick, find the reason of it failing so bad and then not do the same with the Xpulse. 10:35 Hey I have an Ather as well. It's not like you see a ₹1.9L scooter on the road everyday.

@Antony_Shamarjit_Lee pretty sure this is nothing in front of the Sherpa. Hero wanted to copy the Royal Enfield type engine and ended up getting a checkmate from Royal Enfield after RE chose to up their technology with the Himalayan. Retro engines right now aren't the way to go.
