Thanks for the post. Wondered how they looked and sounded. I love clocks. My cuckoo clock is dying, so am looking for new ideas. Question. Because the mechanism is exposed, does it require more cleaning than one that's enclosed?

yes it would, id start off by a can of air, then a degreaser to get at whatever grease or gunk . let it dr overnight, then use my favorite stuff for reviving clocks. liquid wrench penetrating oil . that stuff when it dries out it maintains it,s oiliness unlike water displacement-40 [ WD-40 ] good luck on it !

to add [ rather late atm lol]. since i reckon your cuckoo clock is chain driven. after cleaning make sure the bearing surfaces are not worn by taking off the weight and moving the gears shaft up and down or side to side if they are all good then perhaps its old oil [ degreaser will work but if you wanna blast that stuff off depending on how bad it is, use acetone] if not maybe one of the gears are binding but that case is very rare. more than likely its just due for a checkup, also check the bellows for tears or wear. sometimes the old leather or paper can crack resulting in less noise. if so then get a raincheck on the bellow size and look up amazon as for exposed clocks dirt is certain to enter freely depending on the environment it is in , the dustier the more frequent the servicing and vise versa. least clean once a year or till you feel it could use one . again like my old post you could use light machine oil. but again on amazon you can buy the real stuff for surprisingly cheap.

? why should i buy this clock? cause he strikes 1 o clock when it was 3 o clock. so it is a long way to let the clock strike once at 1 o clock and twice on 2 o clock and 3 times on 3 o clock.

... I love this clock, too! Has a nice, solid tick-tock.☺ But I'm a bit shocked about how much you had to pay. Mine was only €74 on Amazon Germany.

reason why it was so much is due to shipping and how rural the seller was . im gonna update the collection soon cause there are some new ones to drool over 😺

Thanks for posting this. Just bought one and I'm excited to get it placed somewhere. I'm a big clock/watch fanatic too, but your room kind of looks like Geppetto's shop. lol As a clock guy I'm sure you'll get the reference there. I am curious about the ticking. Hard to tell if it is loud because you are close or if it is just that loud, but where would you rate the volume of the ticking on a scale of 1 to 10 as compared to a typical grandfather clock? I'm just worried having this in the hall would drive me nuts if it is the only sound in the house and it is loud. Maybe it will be a downstairs clock... Decisions decisions. :)

on the scale i rate a 3 out of ten as its constantly out ticked by other clocks . the chime will be exceptionally loud [ as i was typing this a door just slammed on its own o_O] its a 8 day movement which if you can keep dust from forming and oiling it once a year . a toothpick and a type of gear oil or transmission fluid works . just never use wd40 soon as it dries it forms a gel which gums up everything . i learned that the hard way with another clock. lol.

If you need silence it's very simple. All you need to do is yell "Quiet!" and they stop ticking.

I found that you can just bend the hammer back a little bit and that solves it. No more chime.

that works too. but it puts stress on the metal and it could break over time . a piece of foam taped to the bell or the bell taken off should also work without said stress

not sure if they make clocks like this with a silent feature . i know the mantel clocks do. if you do want to get a clock like this taking off the bell or retaining the hammer in some way should help.
