HermitCraft S9#6: Starting The Base

Ойындар

Having no base doesn't bother me... it's normal right?. Well... maybe we should try something... Today I lay out some plans for our future base and experiment with how to put down the ground work for it.

    Most hermits: build large, pretty megabuilds with a farm or two Etho, almost every season: builds a chaotic interactive tangle of experimental architecture, probably in a jungle

    Jungle grass is the best grass, and most of Etho's experience stems from the mancave which is also a tangle of (at the time) experimental architecture. Its just now he is building in the air instead of underground making the tangle more visibly chaotic. I just love how every hermit has a unique style. (And etho technically isn't the last hermit to start their base, Beef has been so busy with his cardgame he hasn't made any progress on a base that isn't chests in a field. (Loosely calling his map area a field)) Edit: typo

    It would also make sense because many cities have a ton of utilities underground so he could stash all sorts of redstone and other stuff under their that otherwise doesn't fit/make sense above ground. (And then add decoration to make it a proper sewer) Also the city of Chicago actually lifted itself up just to build a sewer, litterally jacking up skyscrapers to make space for the sewer so its not even unprecedented to build your city off the actual ground.

    Hey Etho, some advice: The inside edge of a spiral staircase will always be steeper than the outside edge. Also the steps themselves need to follow the curve of the staircase, kind of like what you ended up with. My method is to build the outside edge first as this will define the shape/feel of the staircase, then add blocks inward perpendicular to the outside edge. Keep in mind that if you use the same number of blocks for each step, the diagonal section will end up being thinner than the straight sections.

  • @epiphaner

    @epiphaner

    Жыл бұрын

    When building curvy stairs in Minecraft, I always build the inner edge first to limit how steep it gets and then fan out from there. I also don't care too much about getting the width perfect, it just has to feel good enough. Furthermore, sticking to either straight or curved stairs helps massively in the look and feel!

  • @haph2087

    @haph2087

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I’d like to point out two things when measuring diagonal structures: 1: The corner to corner width of a block is wider than the edge to edge width. ~1.41x as wide. 2: To accurately measure width, (on structures with relatively low curvature [the turning radius is much larger than the width], and “parrallelish” sides [a line perpendicular to the tangent line of the point it crosses through one side is also perpendicular to the tangent line at the point it crosses through the other side]) you need to measure perpendicular to the tangent line. That means, you should take the direction the edge is going, and measure 90 degrees from that. If you measure at a different angle, (ex: along a random cardinal like shown in the episode) you will over measure width. This effect is why sloped armor is effective.

    Still able to surprise us after all this time. You certainly meant it when you said it was out of your comfort zone! Your base concept is awesome! Definitely not something I've seen done before. This is really invigorating my interest in Hermitcraft after Iskall left for a break. The energy you bring to the server is so needed. 21:08 Oh Etho. That's the easy part. Surely you remember HHH? Hermits Helping Hermits? Remember when Tango got a production line going to make all those crossbows for Among Us? HHH never stopped. Joe and Cleo have been doing HHH for the hermits every single Monday (they took a break during the Empires crossover, of course). Your six hours of work could be condensed into an hour and half, if that. You're not the only one with villagers. Impulse is fully set up as is Scar/Tango/Grian as well as Jevin. You don't have to stream, (Cleo/Joe/Scar/Jevin/X/Tango/Impulse/xB/Gem/False/Pearl etc) could do so. You'd just be managing it in a proxmod group. Seriously, look into it. Joe and Cleo are constantly asking for jobs to do to help out the other hermits yet the hermits never take advantage of their help. Tango has done so occasionally, when his twitch chat has forced him to, especially if it relates to Decked Out matters. Gem did it earlier in the season when she and Stress were draining their shared Guardian Farm. I say any project that is for the good of all Hermits should be a project for HHH, truly.

    Hi Etho! I wanted to share something I learned about building stairs since I saw you building them and I’ve been in the same boat multiple times. I started using circles as a guideline when building spiraling stairs with slabs since they help you shape the stairs properly. You’d use a smaller circle on the inside of the stairs to mark out the curvature on the inside and then a bigger circle on the outside to mark out the outside curvature. I usually build the circle a few blocks higher than the staircase so you can see where to place blocks. This might not help with your current build but I know you like to learn new things about minecraft so maybe this could be useful in the future. :) Love you ❤️

    One idea to get players to leave their castle: Rename the Golden Apples: e.g. Red Apple, Green Apple, Middle Apple; then you can reward more points for harder apples or give a bonus for collecting them all. Custom textures are optional. If you want more incentive for players to play the game, cut a deal with Beef to occasionally dispense Hermitcraft TCG cards instead of Gapples and let the players keep them. :) Always awesome to see you energized and enjoying playing Minecraft.

    When you've got more of the base's base/foundation built up, it could be a cool collab with Pearl to have her come over and give you some pointers. She's an incredible organics builder (and just saw her stream this morning where she showed us a litematica of the newest build to her base. Jaw dropping spectacular build.) and I'm sure she would be very helpful in a fun way. Or Scar. Or both! Both are S-tier terraformers.

Over the last couple of years I've been watching Ethos series on KZread,I have learnt that if you forse something to satisfy an audience of hundreds of thousands every week. You can suffer from the burnout big time. Most people don't know how much time and effort it's going to take to be on top this days. All I want to say is.. Love the small things in life and be proud of what you have done at the moment. Good work Etho
