The glowberries can serve as a light source, but also a food source. In order to get food, Hermits will have to sacrifice their light source and blind themselves over a pit of spikes.

I think there's plenty of things that make scary sounds that you could have tucked under the physiological layer, if you want to add another layer of dread. Have a calibrated sculk sensor listening for the flap of that trapdoor to turn it on, hook up a timing circuit, and watch the fear. Hell, even just one of the scary music discs can just be hopper'd in to start playing as they start swimming - I'd pick 5 (the ancient city disc fragment one), 11, or 13. Silence is unsettling, but the immersion of audio is almost unparalleled.

Ooh, what if the section was an area of regular snow, with a couple of avoidable powder snow patches throughout, basically like an obstacle course, with one unavoidable patch hidden at the end. It would be a really interesting addition if you have some magma cubes underwater beneath little openings within the tubes that might suck the hermits down into different tunnels or tubes suddenly, with the bubble columns, y'know? Like just swimming along and suddenly ZOOOOOOP you get sucked down into a different passage and your route is forced to change! That would also be a super cool way to keep updating the maze so no one could memorize it! Also I'm still just BUZZING over the fact that you're here on Hermitcraft Skizz I love all your work so much and your positive attitude has been helping me keep being kind to myself and kind to others through a really not-so-fun time! @@recurvestickerdragon Hi, can you cite some sources to that? I tried looking into this more and it really doesn't seem to be that bad. At worst it's a term that groups together diverse tribes from Greenland, North of Canada, Alaska and Russia based mostly on the fact that they live in cold and snowy regions in the north. Sure those tribes probably don't have that much in common culturally and may even have been at war with each other periodically, so it might be rude to just lump them together. But in this case, where it's only about them all having access to a lot of snow, it should be ok, shouldn't it?

I think a GREAT way to make the first layer way more scary is to add some mob noises (with heads on top of noteblocks, or even just named mobs hidden underground) that go off on a timer! Make em come from all directions! It's dark and you're low on health! Now you're REAL scared about what's to come!

Skizz seeing you interact with the other hermits has been truly one of my favorite parts of this season. I love how you edit your interactions to bring more life to them seeing your dance with the wood crew in third person made it 200x more adorable you bring such an amazing vibe to the server. I’m so glad you joined this season ❤

You may want to increase the price of cherry log's because as Xb said, he bought it for the chests, and I too would buy any wood stack for 1 diamond for just crafting. At that point the effort of cutting the cherry trees are worthless. On the other hand this may actually make you the prime seller, so if you can keep up with demand, you really will have a high competitive advantage to other wood holders and gain more market share.

I've got a lot of ideas, so here's my Idea Stew: You could play with effects which represent difficulties in achieving the physiological layer. Poison can take the player down to one heart for a final touch to the level (and Wither from roses can threaten to kill). You could cleverly place wardens for darkness to represent failing eyesight (maybe talk to Tango for that one). In my mind, there are two keys to masterfully crafting a challenge like this - One is to make the player earn their victory (if they achieve it) and make them feel like they got by by the skin of their teeth, and the second is to make the challenges feel *real* - make the challenges represent real-life obstacles that people attempting to achieve the layer might face. Poison represents disease. Hide a Husk to hit the player and cause hunger. Heavy slowness is exhaustion or paralysis. Scary sounds and creatures are hallucinations. Give the player that thrill. You could even research all of the negative effects in Minecraft. The threat that encapsulates the level is food. Make the player do difficult things for food - even things that threaten them. Within the bounds of Minecraft, for example, fist-fight a polar bear. My idea is to give the player a dilemma through the use of negative foods, like Poisonous Potatoes, Spider Eyes, Pufferfish (great for Nausea), Rotten Flesh, Raw Chicken, or Suspicious Stew - make it the only food item they can eat. Will the player trade their empty hunger bar for, say, blindness? Whatever you do, constantly place hunger on them through damage, demanding jumps and sprints, Husks, or simply forcing them to eat Rotten Flesh. Once again, one of the keys is to make the player earn their victory. When they do, make it rewarding - the idea of Maslow's pyramid is, once you have achieved one layer, the have it for the rest of the run. The reward for beating Level One could be, for example, a stack of carrots, because you have gotten past that challenge and are ready to face a new one. Maybe give them milk to clear effects. Overall, if you agree with these ideas and this mindset, level one should be the most grueling, challenging, fighting-for-life, slogging, grindy one of them all. This also means, then, that it should be the most thrilling.

For making people uncomfortable, normally I would suggest somehow adding an Elder Guardian for that occasional jumpscare effect. Unfortunately, not only would it be a bit difficult to get one to your base, but it would also be constantly giving anyone nearby mining fatigue, which could be a problem while building.

Some ideas for the first layer: Have a note-block with a creeper head on it go off 1-2 times as they go through the level. Have a room with hostile mobs in it. (either via having the room be dark, or via put a few name tagged mobs in, and the player is not allowed to fight or kill the mobs.)

If you want to add extra torture and pain to your first level, have some way that a person needs something, can see it but can't get to it. Like in that first room after the water make it a room with a honey floor so a person can't jump and then put food at a distance where you can only get it if you jump. Mean as heck but accurate to the experience of struggling with that first level of Maslow's pyramid.

I hope you have good audio design which is like a natural geographic narration commentary... and the maze ends have facts saying '51% of the human civilization has met it's demise the way you have' as they hit a dead end... or general narrations like 'as you start to recognize your death, you come to have a profound distinction between fear and hope' ... things like that kinda hunger games narration/ detroit becomes human narration, something like that to really sell the experience... sound design will make a HUGE difference
