Recovery compasses aren't something you want to carry around with you though, you want to leave them by your spawn point so you can pick them up after you die. Having one in your inventory when you die isn't going to be very helpful.

Starting off a video with Grian's introduction quote is truly something special. Also it's REALLY hard to compare to Etho when it comes to storage tech, his is always the most unique and creative.

If you end up adopting Etho's storage system, I would suggest using the storage room in your train for shop stock. That way you can separate stuff you want to sell, from stuff you'd rather keep to yourself. And you won't have to worry about remembering where all your items are, because it'll be a much smaller spread of items.

Explicit consent is very important!

Etho's system is very cool, but the auto refill modules will likely break for Scar. They require a dilligent eye to make sure you don't leave empty slots in the shulkers, and you have to manually fill the top chests with items if they ever run low on an item.

Scar, it may not be worth it to try with the dolphins. You might remember from the Dolphin Highway days that it's impossible to keep them alive unless you have them trapped inside a bubble column. If you're far enough away that they're loaded but can't process their AI, they just drown.

Does chunk loading bypass the AI switch? It wouldn't have made any sense for solving the dolphin highway problem, since there's an efficiency benefit to having the dolphins maintain precise spacing, and having a series of constant chunk loaders across the server could cause nether portal connection issues (I believe that's why the mail system has on-demand chunk loading)...but if a chunk loader could keep the dolphin AI loaded, a carefully placed and spaced pool might be a possibility without having to have the entire thing bubble columned...

i feel like i've said this before, how his transitions are so smooth that sometimes you don't even notice, especially after the builds, im not technical in the slightest, i just thought he has a really good mic and is really consistent with his voice or that he just cuts the audio after the sentence and then starts speaking again after the sentence is done, but the video is still playing if that makes sense?

Both storage systems win. Scar's is a cute display storage system. It's where I'd store my fun items, valuables, and bring friends when they want to borrow a cup of sugar. Etho's storage system is what I'd use daily. Minecraft's inventory is so broken, that a practical storage system is a must. Etho's this season is one of the best I've seen.

Scar's is so pretty though. 🤩 It'd be something I'd use, since I don't tend to have enough of anything to warrant a "functional" system like Etho's.

Aesthetically speaking? Scar's storage system is the clear winner (In my opinion). In terms of efficiency? Yeah... Etho's is the clear winner.

There's no way I can decide who's storage room is better! It's like asking someone whether a fridge or a heater is better, they're both so different and both so great!

I think scar can build a storage system like Etho under his railway cart for specialized items, and use his aesthetic storage system for bulk storage , where each corner can have its own thing, such as one corner for wood , one for stone etc. This way he will get the best of both worlds

Etho's set up handles the bulk storage well. However, there will be need for storage for unique items like all the horns. Use the train car for the more unique stuff, and Etho's system, either as a separate barn or under the train car, for everything else.

I'd use the main car for stuff that I'm grabbing all the time...which would include goat horns. I think adding some of the auto filling to the top cart if there's a way might be a good way to add to the convenience...like trade a few barrels or patches of floor for skulker re-fillers, or just have a few barrels on the bottom level refill with rockets/food from the level below, use the top barrels for goat horns and commonly used unique stuff. As long as you can fit a way up/down I think you're good.

I think the main problem there is that when the train rides away to its next stop, he'll be leaving all his items behind. It's just not practical

Etho’s design is great, but it has one major flaw: it requires quite a level of self-discipline to have storage organized, on the level of a habit. The “self-refilling shulker boxes”, for example, were made as a result of a brain storm “how does one maximize usage of storage slots in an ender chest?” - and the only other hermit I know who cares about efficiency to the level of breaking and making habits to such a degree is Xisuma (I mean that he also keeps 27 labeled shulkers in his ender chest). That being said, “semi-manual shulker-based sorter” is a neat contraption that might actually be helpful even in your current storage carriage, at least - for sorting leftovers from often-used resources (stone, cobble, dirt, etc).

@12:38 Dolphins are almost impossible to keep alive because they drown when the player is too far away and the AI shuts off. Grian had a bad time last season when he was trying to get dolphins grace for the soul speed bridge thingy.

Scar, you could do something similar to Grian's "secret" storage area for fishing supplies in which you drop through the train car floor and the track and enter into the storage system Etho makes you. You could also have it be a bubble column that switches from soul sand to a magma block so you can go both ways. :)

I do like the practicality of etho storage but also the aestethics of your storage. But combine them together and you have an utimate storage system. Build that round house an use it as your storage but leave a smaler one on the train!

Etho's semi-automated storage system is great and fits my playstyle, but the ecstatic storage room looks so good. If you want to make it more functional and remember what's where, you can do what Cleo did last season and add mini blocks and armor stand magic to show what each chest contains.
