Detent is a very big topic. Some like it very hard, others like it soft, Herman tries to find a sweet spot in each knife. Important thing, if our client expected a different detent than is set in his Herman knife, you can easily send us a knife for a tuning service at our expense. We only have satisfied customers.

I absolutely love my Dragonfly. It's probably my favorite knife I own and I've got a rockstead higo 2 and a couple Shirogorov's. The action is flawless and drop shut. ❤❤

This might be my first real comment on one of your videos, but this is a great example of your honesty as a reviewer. People dont always have to agree or see the same benefits or problems with a product, but for anyone who has ever questioned your honesty from your own POV really needs to watch this video. Far from a super favorable review, and it would have been very easy to spin the issues with this knife, and you didn't. Good stuff.

Hey MC - How’s the detent on the super saucy one? Is it the same?

I’m a lefty and have adapted to carrying and using a knife right handed, but if you saw me youd probably say I’m better with my right at this point. I already keep my phone in my left pocket.

The micro sting would be awesome with a hollow grind with it having thicker blade stock. I have a dragonfly and I've thought about sending it in to have it hollow ground. That or a shaman with a hollow grind but I heard somewhere that it's hard to hollow grind for some reason.

I agree, the detent on my Micro Sting is a little too light; but it's certainly not terrible either. Any of my 3 Sting have a great detent, and they're not light at all. But for someone who must keep their blade shorter than 3" I would still recommend the Micro Sting if they want a Herman.

My Micro Sting has a harder detent than yours appears to have . It holds firm then fires out just as hard as my Slim - maybe a bit harder. Difficult to fail and I need to flip with my thumb to do that.

I'm curious...Excluding the OEM, are there companies that can fine tune and adjust a knife if you send it to them? At one time I looked online with no luck but maybe I didn't use the right search parameters.

Third party only in the vast majority of cases. Even then you run the risk of voiding the original warranty

I don't know of any in particular that do it consistently. I just remember a few individuals here and there over the last 10 or so years

It would be nice to be able to send a knife in for a stronger detent, or having a sharpening choil put in, or have them do scale swaps or skiff bearings. I know there are places for regrinds but this would be more of a tune up shop. Hmmm...

@@48mastadon custom work is risky. Heavy cost on the workers end to tune things EXACTLY right. Probably why we don't see it as much

I think that the only thing that separates this with Koenigs (have not experienced Holts, Browns, Shiros) is the fact that Koenigs are more consistent.

My micro sting which came from this last drop has a perfect detent. I can’t fail the knife. So there may be some variance and I just got lucky. However, there is a large flaw in the blade finish on the clip side. Considering this knife cost me $800 after shipping, I find that disappointing. I like the knife but am somewhat disappointed in that fact.

I love my Sting, but honestly the detent is very weak on mine as well. I don’t think a knife should be easy to fail on deployment. 🤷🏼‍♂️

every herman knife sounds different from others. it depends on size, shape, material, etc.
