Heritage Home - 128 Durham St Cobourg Open House Video Tour
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
An historically significant home just steps away from Lake Ontario, welcome to 128 Durham Street in the beautiful Town of Cobourg.
Believed to be one of the earliest brick houses in Cobourg, the original structure was built in the early 1830s for Irish settler James Calcutt Sr, and became known as the Lakehurst Estate. In 1910, the home was turned into a boarding house, and eventually became an eight-unit apartment building. Since 2012, the home has been substantially renovated and converted back to a massive single-family residence incorporating staff quarters and a 2-bedroom income townhouse, and was recognized by the Town of Cobourg with a Heritage and Preservation Distinguished Civic Award in April of 2015.
Zoned for multi-family use, this magnificent home showcases huge main level rooms, including light-filled living and dining rooms; a Great Room rich with wood detail; as well as a massive eat-in kitchen - and great care was taken during the restoration process to maintain as much of the home’s historical architecture and detailing, while updating it to modern standards.
Wall, door and window trims, ceiling medallions, crown moldings, and interior doors have been renovated to heritage design, or replaced with near identical replicas. Most of the decor light switches have been updated, and the majority of the ceiling lighting has been replaced with new or vintage fixtures.
The custom kitchen and breakfast area blends both modern and heritage design, showcasing restored hardwood floors; custom renovated wooden ceiling and trim; cabinetry with above- and under-cabinet lighting; built-in, high-end stainless steel appliances; granite-topped centre island with farmhouse apron enamel sink; stone back splash, and tiled floor.
Radiant heat is provided through cast iron radiators, with temperatures controlled through a WiFi thermostat. Ethernet hard-wired, over 2,000 ft. of CAT 6 cable has been installed throughout many of the rooms, and all centralized to a network switch, allowing for a private high speed network for internet access, file sharing, media streaming, on-line gaming, and IP security cameras. This home is hard-wired for a security system, and also has a fire alarm system with carbon monoxide detectors as well as low profile smoke alarm sensors and horns.
Much of the original hardwood flooring remains, with new hardwood or cork floors installed in some areas of the home, while a soft cushiony broadloom is found in the formal living room, as well as on the staircases and the second and third floor landings.
There are two separate laundry rooms in the home - one in the basement and one on the third floor - both with updated washer and dryers; and all 7 washrooms throughout the home have also been updated with new toilets, bath areas, vanities, and flooring.
The second floor is divided into two separate wings - the north wing ideal for guests or extended family members - with the main family bedrooms found in the south wing. Two of these bedrooms share a 4-pc washroom, with one bedroom having its own private access. The master suite features a bedroom with an east-facing sitting area; a dressing room with custom fitted wardrobes; and a luxurious 5-pc washroom customized with marble-topped double vanity, free standing tub, and glass-enclosed shower area.
The third level has a self-contained apartment ideal as a nanny or in-law suite - and features a spacious living room with fireplace; a cozy space for a sitting area or dressing room adjacent to the bedroom; plenty of storage; a 4-pc washroom; and an eat-in kitchen which has walk-out access to a private balcony with a view of the lake.
Across from this apartment is a private games room and recreation area with its own 4-pc washroom and a renovated wet bar.
Many heritage restorations, as well as modern updates, have been done to the home’s exterior, and a separate carriage house on the property has also been completely restored.
A testament to Cobourg’s historic past, 128 Durham Street is a showcase of rich heritage and design blending with the modern amenities of today’s lifestyle.

This home used to be apartments actually. I babysat in the downstairs part with the 2 fireplaces. I was always a little freaked out! That apartment was huge. Crazy to see it as one house now!
The warmth and class of yesterday combined with all the conveniences of today.
Oh my goodness... The character of this house is like a fairytale... wow, wow, wow...
What a massive house. Nice how the old architectural details were preserved.

Just under 9,000 square feet with 11 bedrooms for $2.85 million. It's known as "The Lakehurst Estate".
The area isn’t spectacular but I absolutely love the house, it is so cute and all that woodwork is absolutely gorgeous.

I agree. All that woodwork reminds me of an old English mansion, or even a 🏰.
I want this type of home. Gorgeous!!!
I love the darker color and atmosphere of this house. It's warm and comforting.

This is my kind of house! I love everything about it, wouldn’t change a thing except maybe the carpet, no carpet with floors like this. I want this!
I would definitely buy this house... Awesomeness!!
Wow! That house is beautiful and BIG!
I love this house and the antiques in it! The woodwork is incredible!

I would check the bylaw first it would be awful if someone bought it to do that and found they couldn't. six story condo on the building lot behind this property won't add to its success either, unfortunate though good spot for it. The condo should be complete 2018. Noise, construction dust it isn't for everyone. Whoever buys it will have to love it that's for sure.

You are correct, such a beautiful place that would be a shame if you had to tear out walls!! Condo would ruine the gorgeous structure. I think making the best out of a place, keeping the integrity and making certain that you could use it to generate income by the proper laws would be first on the list!! Good point that you brought up =]

I LOVE THIS HOUSE :) I want so much, growing up in central Texas, East of Austin , Tx , in Williamson county and Bastrop county in the farm country area. Reminds me of grandparents and great grandparents and other elders homes.
This house is beautiful. I can see it being an excellent house for a family fostering lots of kids.

You could supplement income as a bed and breakfast.
They need to shoot a paranormal activity movie in this house, that would be cool lol!

I know...I thought I was crazy on thinking about it...lol. it's an okay house, some people might think it's beautiful....but, to me...it doesn't feel like a home. The dark wood wall panels throughout....it seems pretty outdated...for me anyway!!!
I love this house so old fashioned.
The music makes me feel cozy for some reason lol
Perfect home for a large family. A happy, comfortable home. Great location.
Any house with those dark wooden walls makes me feel like I'm a vampire living in the 1800s

I love this style, it’s very warm and comforting to me, many people want open bright modern houses but tbh I find it kind of cold and just not a family home. This house is amazing tho, my family owns a bed and breakfast house and it was built back in 1911 by my great grandpa when he was a little boy and it’s absolutely gorgeous, it still has the claw foot bath tubs and the old fashioned kitchen and even the brick floors, while keeping some fixtures modern such as the pool, vanities, toilets and other things which require replacing. I want a home just like this when I’m an adult

Very lovely, especially family room
It is a beautiful house by far
One of the only houses I've seen on any of these channels that has radiators for heating like we have in the UK.
@chrisgraham2904
Жыл бұрын
Still a lot of radiators in older Canadian homes. Unfortunately, without a forced air system, these older homes are almost impossible to provide whole house air conditioning. That third floor will be a hot place in summer.
What a beautiful 😍 home! I like the eclectic furnishings! This is in fact one if my favorite 🏘 shown on this channel!
I wish they toured in that room next to the stairs. 6:44

Probably an unfinished attic storage space.
I love how elegant it is with such contrasting styles, yet it still looks amazing in some way. And the split level style is stunning as well

Very different room shapes! Very different house! Really like unique.
This house is beautifully restored. However, I would have to stay there for at least a week before buying it! Had a very strong sense while watching the video that there are other long term occupants living there who don't contribute to the mortgage!
Beautiful home. Love the details.
This is one of the bigger house i've ever seen !)
What a beauty
Wow, beautiful! That's one hell of a house. I love that most of it retains the original details and character. However, I was disappointed that the living room off the left of the foyer had wall to wall carpeting, which didn't make sense to me, considering most of the house had beautiful, original hardwood floors. Hardwood with a nice rug or two in that living room would have been much more in keeping with the age of the house.
That house is awesome. They did a great job restoring it. WoW!
Beautiful house🤗
Very interesting set up for a home. Very large also. I felt lost watching the video.
I love this house!
Divina 👌
Neat home!
Wow! Just how many different ways can you say "Magnifique?"
I love every part of this beautiful home!!!
Big but very beautiful
Beautiful house. Very Charming.
Love.....
Beautiful. Huge, but beautiful. A large family would find it perfect. I see adult children living with their parents here as well.
I worked in that building. How amazing would that be to live there right next door
Beautiful. I love it!
What I wouldn't give for this stunner!!!
Beautiful
I love my wife but im in love with this stunning place
GADDMANNNNNN!!!!! @_@ that is one historical house I would love to learn more about.
I love this house!It is huge !
This house goes on and on. Lol interesting and unique.
Buy this in my dream
Have never seen a home as huge as this one.
@chrisgraham2904

Probably originally built by a wealthy farmer/rancher with 10 kids before the town grew around it.
This house goes on and on and on and on....omg! Huge! Love it but I would modernize some rooms to make it brighter.
now this is huge

Muy hermosa construcción. ME GUSTA MUCHO 👍👍👍👍👍

Love it
The third floor alone could be made into two apartments. To help pay for the upkeep of this massive beautiful house. That's what I would do if I owned this house.

I wouldnt imagine living in your dream home and people keep going ul and down the stairs. People who arent even you familg. No i know that when i buy my dream home i will live there with just my family if i buy a house with an apartment already there id give it to my mom not to anyone who i dont know i just dont like the idea of a stranger near me dailymotion
Hermosa es la casa soñada desde Chile saludos
It's not my usual style but that third floor with the room gabled has so it's not my usual style but that third floor is so uniquely warm and inviting and there's a second kitchen. Very nice
This was apartments threw out the whole houses. I used to live there back in the day . I believe it had 7 apartments in this house.
Beautiful house! Looking though these house videos I find myself asking "Why do people need so many sofas and chairs?" I'm not one to use them for filler.
Hermoso todo lo que muestran. Me encanta. Alguien podría decirme cómo se llama el tema que escuchamos en sus presentaciones, por favor gracias
I'll buy this a make it into a hotel.
This house just casually has 3 levels. If that's an attic space it does not feel like it
sad about the condo going up in that parking lot though
There's gotta be an old map to burried treasure hidden somewhere in this house.
I have feelings it’s like in a horror movie 😉😉

This is the kind of place you buy with all your $$$$ to get haunted :D
That drawing room looks like that of an English manor.
Love Love
❤💚
I’d need a Satnav to find my way around all those rooms and corridors
at first i didnt like the dark walls in the living room on the first floor but i wouldn't mind the rest of the house

Dark walls can be amazing with today's lighting capabilities. Very different from when the home was built and lit by oil lamps.
Is it haunted? :D

Also- I absolutely love the house and if I had the money (which I don’t)- I’d have the exact same floor plans drawn up and just have a replica built in another state- someplace in the country with a bunch of land! But a place to raise a large family! Just love it!

My first thougth 🤣
though I do like houses that have the “ maze effect”/ avenues
Reminds me if the Amityville horror movie house fill with ghost..
first time i feel scared in a house tour
I couldn't wait to get out of there. 😂😂
👏🌟
8:42 i bet this room has a ghost. i can feel it.
This is part of the no voice over playlist I made for my son (he loves falling asleep to it) so I’ve seen this a lot, but tonight I realized that I think the first time I saw it there was snow outside. Did you do a new drone intro/outro?
Not for me far to dark ,it needs light injected into this house.
This house is so scary. Hehehehe, it feels like there’s someone living there. But the cameraman can go all alone inside the house
I like the stove space. But what happens when oil splatters all over?
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Senti medo, angústia , tristeza ao ver esta casa.
Anyone else getting some mad Dragonfly Inn vibes?
Two things are certain in life 1.Taxes 2.They don't build them like this anymore
