Again, great guide for beginners and even experienced drivers. That is why, while living in Poland, I have been watching your films for years.
Great, informative video. Another video idea would be how to tow safely. So many people out there don't have a clue what they can tow and how to tow it. One particular example is if you are towing a vehicle on an equipment/car hauler and how to properly distribute the weight on the trailer. It would also be beneficial to know what to do in an emergency situations and how to use a trailer brake controller to get a trailer under control. Call it towing for beginners. I have learned much of this over the years by watching TFL, but it would be nice to have it in one video. Keep up the great content.

I have tow a car about two years ago from Joplin Missouri to Pine Bluff Arkansas for the first time with a 2008 expedition, the trailer i used is from Uhaul the car was a 1994 BMW 325 and i don't know if the Uhaul trailer can be controlled by trailer brake control but the expy didn't come equipped with it and i pull it just fine through the Ozarks on i49 and i40 but never exceed 65-70 mph because i might afraid that i fried the brakes or cooked the transmission but didn't and made it home safe and i practiced slowing down on near exits before actually using the brakes and never shifted so i learned on the fly abd gained experience and confidence. The only thing that i burned quickly was fuel and didn't check what mpg i was getting while pulling that load. Lol

I thought you were about to throw a pair of the truck nuts on at the end when you were going to show the accessory you forgot :P. Great video and information as always!!
This is why I come to TFL Truck. Good info.
I needed this information, there’s so many options out there. It’s good to get the info I needed from a trusted source like you guys
I love my B&W Hitch. 1/3-1/2 the price of the Gen Y shown.
Nice video, I got a 3 ball set up with a tow hook welded onto it. Perfect for anything I need.
Good informative video. Now the 3 major downsides of the gen-y 1. They are built like a Brick outhouse and reduce payload by approximately 100lbs. 2. On a HD truck with a 2.5-3" shank receiver draw bar you're then reducing it back to a 2" shank again for ball draw bar. 3. Almost triple the price of comparable weighsafe, or B&W.
Thanks again Andre..some pretty solid hitches.. Nice products for guys who tow full time with their trucks
So speaking of leverage, that Gen-Y Boss sure looks like it adds a ton of leverage, ESPECIALLY with that weight distribution attachment on there. When I was looking into new hitches that reason exactly is why I went with a B&W Tow and Stow. Keeps the load nice and close to the vehicle with hardly any slop.

Luke Brown -Agreed, Gen-Y is way overrated and stupid expensive.
I own two hitches. A Weigh Safe drop hitch and an Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch. I love them both.
Always interesting, informative and entertaining. Always a thumbs up video 👍
Andre this was very helpful. Thank you for putting in the time. It wasn't too long.
Thanks Andre, exactly what I was looking for.
Andre is the best TFL host! Another excellent and informative video. Thank you
Yeah , like your Channel ! Love Trucks ! Had once a 79' Dodge Ram swb , this Truck goes throu everthing , even Colt Severs like jumps on the Motocross track....😍😎 you all got my Dream Job , playing with Big Boys Toys Greets from Bavaria / Germany
Great video Andrea! Don't worry about going too long. I could listen to you go on and on about hitches for hours. Stay safe and keep up the excellent work. 👍
Great video. I’d love to see something on sway control, especially with regard to Gen Y products.
Great video and very informative
Thanks . I just Bought a 2018 three-quarter ton gmc . And I bought an aluminum tow hitch , because it was light . But I think I will upgrade now to a better one ... thanks Andre for the information!!!
Love the video, very informative. Please do a part 2, going over 5th wheel and gooseneck. I would love to know some of those differences too.
Thx TFLT for the informative video but I must have missed Roman or Andre tell US to always follow our vehicle manufacturer's vehicle specific recommendations for towing. Can't wait for the Big Boys tow guide. Stay safe and healthy.
Great video!
Great simple towing video and as an owner of a Gladiator Rubicon and using a Gen-Y hitch, I can attest it does smooth out the ride.
Great info. I would like to see you guys test the Pro Pride 3P hitch. I purchased one a few months ago. 30 years of towing and it's the smoothest tow I have ever felt. Wind, large trucks, uneven load, etc is no issue. Tow vehicle is a 2019 F250 6.7.
Wonderful job on the video!
Tks timing for me perfect adding trailer. Tks TFL Tks Andre.
Very interesting Andre - thanks!

I just shake and think just because you can doesn't mean you should lol. Pass and get passed by a lot of people towing things I wouldn't with a van or even an SUV. I'm a truck driver so I pay more attention to stuff like that.
The hitch video was very well done.....Atta Boy !!!
I dunno if I’ll ever tow anything but my shopping bags lol still good to know .🤷🏻♀️😁 great video thank you 🙏🏻
Not long at all- time we got these days... thanks!
Great info as always, thanks! Now I just need a fifth wheel hitch version of this video!
this was an excellent video, awesome
Good video Andre,..well done.
I have the curt drop down hitch 2 1/2 in shank. I love it
great video!! thanks!
I like the video Andre and it was very informative and some accessories i never seen before might come in handy but i think that its too much equipment to use the setup from the next to last segment from this video. And no the video is NOT long enough about hitches.😁
Like a Boss!
Andre, you should ask the manufacturers what their thought is on flipping the hitch into the rise position.

Andre! Happy Tuesday. I’m looking for a shock mounted gooseneck solution. Please include that in your next video 😍
Help. I have 2020 ram 1500 laramie 4x4 crew cab, sticker said max combine weight on vehicle is 1096lbs, and gvwr is 7100 lbs. which weight distribution hitch should i buy, and what the maximum trailer weight can i tow?
Holy wow... How in the world did that one gooseneck ball get bent/cracked near the beginning of the video?!
I have a 1/2 ton F-150 with a 3.5L EcoBoost. My trailer is a 20' landscaping trailer that weighs 5k lbs. I can load up to 10k on the trailer. What hitch would you recommend?
Definitely not too long of a vid, in fact it seemed to be over quickly and I still wanted to know more! An eye opener for me when using a collar adapter from 2”x2” shank to 2.5”x2.5” on my HD truck and derating due to shearing on the pin. I can definitely hear the collar shift when I start or stop and that’s stressing the system for sure. Time for me to consider that mega hitch instead of half-assing my old parts with an adapter. Thanks for this !!
Thanks
I can see my shin banging into that step

That was my first thought as well. Imagine the bruises and cuts that gagged step will provide. 🏥
So with my Chevy Silverado I’m pulling my 4300lb boat with a 3 in drop steel tow hitch. Every time I take off or brake it almost feels like the the trailer is pushing or pulling. Which hitch would remedy this situation?
You should do a segment about the correct tow vehicle tires to use with trailering. Many trucks are coming with weak side walls for comfort or tires for increased mpg that are not safe for heavy loaded trailers.
Would like to know the other side in hitches, something i haven't found info on. Tolerances on the receiver to hitch. When is it not good and how do you determine it?
Ok good stuff I do measure for drop or rise on a 2" hitch? Thanks
can we get a glider hitch for a bike carrier, 2". haha. that thing bounces around so much the bolts go lose
What item do you recommend for testing tongue weight? I would love to be able keep checking and making sure I’m staying in line. Thanks 😊

I’m less worried about the rubber in the water, as I would for UV damage over time. As long as it’s greased (and stored away when not in use) I don’t think you’ll have any issues.

Bumper hitch has the ball mounted in a hole in the center of the bumper; very light duty. You initially showed "receiver hitch". Mr. Truck may deduct a point from your score ;-) I select ball and hitch with specs at least one catagory avove my need and use. I use weight distribution even though my current need is only 3500# because my vehicle has off road suspension with reduced capacity (2018 SuperCab Raptor). Works great that way! Nice video.
We used to have NATO hitches on our Landies back in the Uk which were great for using off road for throwing a strap through but I don’t see them over here. Can you get them in the states - be great to have one just in case
I need help search for a hitch for my 2005 Chevy Uplander LS .. I don't know where to look. I'm trying to haul a small camper on it. Small cube like camper for one person.
Looking forward to the fifth wheel hitch video
What about the 2021 F-250 that states the receiver is already set up factory as weight distributing?
THANKS, ANDRE', FOR ALL OF YOUR GREAT, INFORMATIVE VIDEOS!!! PLEASE CONSIDER DEMONSTRATING INSTALLING THE GEN-Y "gLYDER" HITCH, WITH THE "SWAY CONTROL BAR, AND LOAD DISTRIBUTION, ON A MID-SIZED, (CLASS 3..?), (...NOT A MONSTEROUS, (>CLASS 5 ...+) TRAILER, AS MOST AVERAGE DRIVERS WOULD NEED.
Ok Andre. Those are fine and dandy but i had one about a year ago and at the time they didnt make one for a big boys truck so i had to use the sleeve on both my 2500 cummins and on the f250. And when there is no trailer on it they rattle so bad going down the dirt road and in the pasture you have to take them off. So i just went back with a standard 1000/10k 8” drop hitch and have never been more satisfied with the 45 bucks it cost compaired to the 200 plus bucks those others cost.
What about anti-rattle hitch attachments?
Would you guys recommend the weigh safe?
enjoyed the imfo
You know it’s heavy duty when just sliding in the hitch causes the truck to squat .
so that gen-y hitch sat the truck down when you put it in the receiver, it's worth considering how heavy the hitch is as it's taking away payload lol! you guys used to run andersen hitches and I still do, and they work great. it pinches the coupler a bit harder than i'd like but it's not worn out the front of the trailer in 6 years yet... why did you stop using andersen? i'm curious.

GenY is sponsoring them, that's why.
I don’t really tow I usually fill the bed with wood and whatever big heavy items my family needs me to take. Ive been interested in going for dirt biking and getting a trailer, this just made me feel more certain about my choosing of the perfect hitch.
You should review a rhino hitch, I LOVE mine!
With a2024 GMC 2500HD AT4 DURAMAX that has 2.5" hitch with a 2" adapter?
Can't wait to see the goose neck and fifth wheel hitch video. Wish you went into more detail about weight distribution hitches.
Did you replace your tow chains to a longer length?
If I have a quarter ton and just want to tow the occasional boat/trailer with a 4 wheeler what would you recommend?
@ALMX5DP

MeliorIlle any generic Curt or other brand should be fine. Just find one (drop or rise) that keeps the trailer level.
What a great video explaining the science behind Gen Y hitches and receivers. Quick question, can a weight distribution hitch such as the Andersen :no sway - no bounce" weight distribution hitch be used in conjunction with the Gen Y Glyder Torsion Flex hitch? I plan on towing a 5300 lb (UVW) travel trailer with a 1/2 ton truck. Total estimated weight of trailer & cargo will be approximately 6300 lbs.

It sounds like he's well on his way to getting it. Apparently it's a lengthy and involved process. But I think Andrea is the kind of person that will make it happen.
What about the Hensley arrow hitch a lot was not covered here
I use shocker hitches they're the smoothest towing hitches I've ever used
Some serious hardware here... the ball/pintle combo I have on my Silverado 2500HD will probably suffice for anything I’ll ever tow (mostly arrow boards).
Nice!! You pulled it off without a 'hitch'....:-) Stay safe... :-)
What would I use to adapt my Equalizer Stabilizer hitch for a 10,000 plus RV? BTW, this video was not long enough for us that are serious about our Towing! AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!😊
You forgot about the B&W Trailer Hitches Tow & Stow Adjustable Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Fits 2" Receiver, Dual Ball, or Try Ball.
Can you use those fancy Gen-Y hitches for trailers that have surge brakes?
Which hitch for a boat? Around 7500 wake boat. I was looking at the gen y torsion hitch for it.
@TFLtruck
4 жыл бұрын
The Glyder is limited to 7,000 lbs. So the GenY Boss 10,000 lbs is the next step up. It will provide a smoother ride than a traditional hitch.
The gen y big boy hitch you show seems like it weakens the amount to be towed with a secondary place to put a hitch in. My point is the hitch is rated for 16k but what about the halls and hitches you put into the slots after?

Yes, I just made the same comment
Got my Gen Y today.
ALSO,... PLEASE CONSIDER DOING A VIDEO ABOUT THE VARIOUS CONSIDERATIONS, IN CHOOSING A GREAT RECEIVER FRAME, FOR A TRUCK, WHERE A "LOAD DISTRIBUTION HITCH" WILL BE USED....AGAIN, FOR A "MID-SIZED" ("AVERAGE") TRAILER, (CLASS 3...?)
I have a geny torsion hitch. It’s overrated. I’m trying to switch to a rhino hitch
I really love my B&W gooseneck hitch in my truck bed Rated for 30,000 pounds with the compatible B&W 5th wheel hitch Rated for 18,000 pounds With the bumper pull B&W hideaway bumper hitch rated for 10,000 pounds
All good information, but quick question not the Boss. A hitch mount bike rack has too much of a shank to fit these adjustable hitches and thus won't fit.
How do you get rid of the rust that accumulates on the shank and receiver?
@brandedmcgowan9414
4 жыл бұрын
Before you install it i spray wd40 on it and inside the mount on the truck so you can easily slide it out after use and prevent the rust and weld-like stuckness. Even axle grease can work.
My dad welded his own heavy duty trailer hitch with a step to step up and over the tail gate.
I got a curt conventional 7,500/750 lb trailer capacity/tongue weight ball mount hallowed shank with 7,500 lb ball mounted not welded on a 4 in drop or 3 1/4 rise purchased at Wal-Mart, made in 🇺🇸 but yet to use it and it's much stronger than the Reese model (made in 🇨🇳) with 6000/600 ratings 2 in drop 1 1/2 rise and i use that one to pull a heavy Uhaul car trailer with a 1994 BMW 325 loaded on it pulled by a 2008 expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4l 3v from Joplin Missouri to Pine Bluff Arkansas driving through the Ozarks hills on i49 and I'm suprised the cheap Reese held up and didn't break.
