I learned to drive with my grandfather on a Chevrolet C10 1970 that had the standard transmission and it was with the driving wheel and I was 12.when he taught me. One of my cousins still has it and drives but being in Puerto Rico it has lots of rust since was kept outside for the last 10 years. My grandfather died 2 years ago and he had 98 with great and healthy memory but his lungs were not oxygenating enough at that age and he was still walking around to church since he was a deacon. He died after he went to the bathroom and came back to take a nap after a nurse checked him out. He didn't want to use a wheelchair because he always said that he was able to walk and that it was better for someone else who couldn't.😉😂

It honestly felt like I was driving for the first time all over again when I was first learning how to drive a manual. After a week you'll lock down the basics, and after a month you'll gain some finesse and shift much faster and smoother. You honestly can't go back to driving an automatic once you've mastered it. It's a real shame that manuals are slowly becoming extinct. Yes you can argue that modern automatic transmissions have surpassed manuals in fuel economy, but manuals are much more reliable, and in the rare occasion that a manual transmission does breakdown, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to repair than an auto that broke down.

I learned to drive with a 5 speed. Manual transmissions are becoming rare these days, and if you buy a new vehicle with one, it doesn't come with any of the other options you may want. Just because it has a manual transmission doesn't mean the rest of the vehicle has to be stripped-down as well. The auto makers have once again decided for us what would be best for consumers.

Learned on a 46’ Ford sedan age 8. Dad got a 39’ Ford 1/2 ton truck highly modded engine with Lincoln Zephyr transmission ( four on the floor) with Columbia two speed rear end when I was nine. Back when the starter was on the floor. He kept breaking the rear end axle key and sold it and bought a new Datsun pickup first year of import 59’. I was 10 when he got that. Four on the tree. My last stick was an 83’ Tercel wagon five speed. Hated it in Bay Area traffic but out in the country where I live not so bad. Someday I’ll get a C5 or C6 if the world doesn’t end first.

If you're learning, surely it's best to begin with standard/manual transmission. If you start out with one, it quickly becomes second nature, even if it is a little more to learn at first. I do like those Corvettes with the (relatively) smaller engine. 25 mpg on the highway is a practical proposition for those of us in the UK (where gas is almost $7 a gallon) who like American sports cars.

I've preferred manual transmissions ever since I drove a tricycle. I can recall not being able to shift, so I took one of my mother's knitting needles and bent it into a lever shape and stuck it in the handlebar grip hole. MUCH more fun, especially mimicking the gear clash into second such as my aunt's '54 Chevy did.

Just a couple years ago I picked up a 2001 Corvette very similar to this one, its pewter, has the 6 speed, lots of options. It only ran me $14,900, with 66,000 miles! Plus, I'm only the 3rd owner and it has a full service history too! Fantastic cars to drive, good on gas considering the size of the engine, and reliable as can be!

I've known three different middle aged guy's that bought used, low milage, Corvettes. They very seldom drove them, and kept them in a garage. It's one of the easiest used car's to find in excellent shape.

Yeah same, I drove a 95 250 for my first truck w a 7.3 Powerstroke. Threw a straight pipe on it some oil in the fuel & she would blow smoke like you wouldn’t believe & had so much fun with it, but if I had the money to put into it for 3-400hp rebuilt the transmission & make all sorts of power with it would be fun. The truck had the E4OD in it, it was fun for rolling coal especially when you had a bad injector blowing fuel & black smoke everywhere was an absolute blast. Later was having issues w it sold it & got a 93 7.3 idi with a 5spd stick. I drove tractors around our property for years & it took me a few minutes to learn how to shift it having a diesel helps w the low end torque & pealing out is pretty fun. My 93 idi is now my daily & would love to find a 95 7.3 in the future & would love to find my old truck in the future, cuz of the body & engine it’ll most likely be still on the road working hard.
