The 60's were such a great decade for automotive design, especially when it comes to sports cars. This era of front engined V12 Ferraris were absolutely beautiful, my favorite being the 250 GTO SWB. With that sonorous Columbo V12 engine up front and the fact these cars were produced in such small numbers, you can kind of see why these fetch such obscene prices at auction. It's still ridiculous though, and as usual it just means only the super rich will ever get to enjoy cars like this, most of them are bought as investments and locked away in some private collection somewhere, and never driven and enjoyed.

f266101463 yeah that might be it. I kind of remember something like that. But then why would he cut it off?
My late 70's Peugeot 504D also had a fuel filler line inside the trunk, but the cap was exterior like most cars. Besides the fuel filler tube, there was also a vapor return line. Apparently, it had been in an accident and the vapor return light was replaced, not with fuel line, but with radiator hose. Thus when it went into the shop and spent weeks there with the front of the car lifted, diesel filled the vapor return line, ate through it, and filled the trunk. With diesel.
Those "Latching" hood and trunk props were standard issue on just about every 60's and 70's British car as well. I liked them also; certainly beat having a prop rod, if you don't want the weight, complexity and expense of a spring system. There were no gas struts as are commonly used today.

I've never drooled over car before. (Well, that's not entirely true, the Jaguar E-Type, and Aston Martin DB5 might have me salivating - but not necessarily to this extent) I have always said, and will continue to maintain, that this is the most beautiful Ferrari ever made. Actually, scratch that, I actually think it's one of the most beautiful cars - of *any* manufacturer. In the World. EVER. Sergio Pininfarina designed many lovely cars over the years, for many, many manufacturers. But what stands out as a pattern, when you look at the statistics, is that when polls are conducted regarding the World's most beautiful cars - Pininfarina's designs consistently dominate the contributions to the polls. But I swear to God, Sergio Pininfarina should have been awarded the *_Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana_* (the modern equivalent of a knighthood in Italy) medal for this car *alone* .

Wow. Subscribed to Doug's channel a couple of years ago and watch occasionally - WHY was YT so late in suggesting me this? Moreover, I was convinced that Doug was only allowed to drive around in the parking lot, in fact I suspected him telling "and now to the demonstration - oh wait, the owner didn't allow me to". Watching him driving at full traffic at highways made my heart pop several times.
Doug has a tough job ??? Great Work if you can get it !!!! Congratulations Doug !

That's how the doors locked in my Granddad's '65 Chevy pickup, and most of the cars I've ever run into from before that era. Mack was still using this door handle/lock method until they retired their venerable R model cab in 2005.
Thanks for teaching me how to close a car door, Doug

Doug, only you rate practicality on a 250 Lusso! The maligned operable rear wings? Open them, crack vent wings and get great airflow with reduced cabin noise driving. Add the demister control on/no fan and have fog free windshield. Cooler weather? Heat on/vent wings closed and cabin stays comfy (without fan again if it's not freezing). Had them on my SAAB 96, no vent wings, and they were wonderful with all the above functions.
i love the door lock! my dad's boano-bodied 250 GT was like this. same engine, 3 webers, etc. I used to think the car went 300 mph b/c i didn't know about kilometers.

Nah nah man you just use a forklift to flip the far over
In hot weather those back windows opening is very nice thing to have, it creates airflow and takes away the dead air pocket in the back of the car.
"The trunk opens like a trunk" Thanks Doug
Since you review a lot of vintage cars and they don’t score as good as modern cars, I would suggest creating a special category in the Doug score chart for vintage cars.

But then it wouldn't be the Doug Score ... it's special because he compares everything with everything .. supercars and minivans go against each other.
Doug's the type of guy to compare a Saturn ION to a $3m Ferrari.
Yes, it's actually more important the oil pressure, temp etc... in a race/sports car, because you can hear the engine revving and know when to shift, about the speed you don't really care on a ractrack. But you can't understand the water temp without a indicator so you need to see it and slow down before blowing up the engine.
My dad thought this was the greatest car, and also loved the Porsche 356, man.... I can't believe the owner let you drive that!!lol
2:00 "This car doesn't have a bad line" 4:47 "This is fake"
