    Sad to say, try and buy a manual trans car(or even truck) these days. Can’t hardly be done. Honda isn’t even selling them except the 6 spd in the hypo civic. Btw my 93 civic has 450k in original clutch and trans and both my kids learned how to drive in it.

    Do you realize how many shifts you would make in 300K?! You must know how to E brake on a hill. Can’t slip the clutch or abuse the transmission or it’s 💵💵 If you’re not a good shifter you will do ALL of this plus your passengers feel the lurching!! Also your left leg will cramp on you.! It’ll be bigger too!!😊🙄 If you drive a ten speed automatic with paddle shift you will usually win a drag race!! You won’t want a crash box any more!!

Would it be possible for me to stop here on my way to Florida and see what you can find on it. I am 75 and don’t plan on buying a car because I never get a paid for it. My rule is I will always have at least one car that’s a stick. I’m fine with autos, and even want one in certain circumstances, but I always want to be able to drive a stick when I want to drive one. That goes for electric cars too. I’m fine with the shift towards electric cars as long as someone makes a stick shift version. Yes I understand they don’t need to shift(mostly) and that’s actually a benefit of their design, but I don’t care. I want someone to make an electric car, with an artificial power band, where it needs to be shifted manually (with a clutch), no matter how inefficient that makes it. It’s not about efficiency for me, it’s about fun, and I won’t give that up.

I taught my daughter with a 1975 Chevy dually granny low.. no hydraulic clutch but rather a hell of a clutch for a girl. It was master that truck or she was not driving until she was 18 and do it without me signing for her license. Pure and simple. She learned with that dually at 15 and drove me around in it for a year then got her license on her 16’th birthday. Then she bought a 94 S10 2.2 5 speed and that little truck was nothing but a joke after driving a man’s truck for a year. The wheel bearings had to get replaced, the clutch got replaced at about 140k, The calipers were going bad, and I replaced the starter once. But the engine never gave me problems and it was a fun little car to drive. Miss it sometimes, but I upgraded to a Corolla and I've been driving it with the intention of going many many miles together.

    Depends on your definition of Lifetime my friend. If a lifetime of the car is until you trade it in then sure. If you define lifetime as a quarter million miles, then... maybe.. if you define lifetime as 300k+ then you're out of your mind. Furthermore not all automatics are the same. If you're looking at for example a CVT then you can fully expect it to detonate itself within 50k to 150,000 miles. See also, Subaru.

  • @clayrydick4561

    @clayrydick4561

    Manuals can have cruise control as well. I’ve never driven one without it, and I’ve driven plenty of manuals(but I’m sure some don’t have it, especially older cars). There are a couple differences though: putting in the clutch will disengage the cruise control just like stepping on the brake. You also can’t change gears without resetting the cruise control, but it’s unlikely you would need to anyways, as most uses for cruise control are on the highway, where you’re likely to be in a single gear the whole time (hence the term CRUISE control). I agree they are a pain in traffic, which is one of the reasons why my rule is that I will always have a car with manual transmission, but I also would love to have at least one automatic. I just want to have access to a stick when I want to have fun. Otherwise, automatics make more sense for most of my driving. Right now I’ve only got one car, so I have a stick. If/when I get a second, I’ll get an auto.

I have also been a valet in my past, and every manual I drove there that I could remember had one. It’s possible one of the older Jeeps I drove a couple times didn’t, but I suspect that’s just down to cost and complexity. Anyways, yeah they can have them, but it also sounds like a lot don’t.
