Here’s why POLISH is one of the most difficult languages - grammar cases

Why is Polish one of the most difficult languages ? One of the reasons are grammar cases, which we apply not only to nouns, but also to adjectives.
Let's look at how the phrase "ciekawa książka" changes depending on the grammar case.

Slovak: N: to je zaujímavá kniha G: zo zaujímavej knihy (different example) D: prichádzam k zaujímavej knihe A: vidím zaujímavú knihu V: hej, zaujímavá kniho (today this case is used only in special cases and poetry) L: hovorím o zaujímavej knihe I: putujem so zaujímavou knihou Polish uses the diminutive version of the word. In Slovak it's knižka. Just replace the "h" with "žk" in the examples above. In everyday speech both versions are used 50/50 in Slovak. The "n" in kniha/knižka is soft (usually written as ň). In Slovak, letters "d", "t", "n" and "l" are always written without diacritics before "e" and "i". The letter "h" is voiced, so its pronunciation is similar to English (like in the word hello). In Croatian, the letter "h" represents a voiceless sound. Slovak has that sound too and it's written as "ch".

@@vladoshka9014 No, but my point is that there are three kinds of conjugation: plural / singular, case-based AND gender-based. Masculine nouns have different conjugation rules. For example, most feminine nouns end with the letter "a", like "książka" or "praca", and the way you conjugate them by grammar cases is similar: "z tą książkĄ", "z tą pracĄ". However, with masculine nouns, you add different suffixes, like with the words "księżyc" or "chłopak": "z tym chłopakIEM", "z tym księżycEM". In addition to that, you also change the adjectives that describe the nouns based on their gender: "z tym pięknYM księżycEM", "z tą pięknĄ książkĄ"

She died about three years ago, at age 95 😢😢 She takes care of me when I was a kid, because my mom used to be a full time teacher, working in a school near by. Since I can remember, I just love blonde polish descendent girls (there are a lot in my state in Brazil), love their culture, their behavior and mindset, I wish I could go to Poland one day… because of that I have practice my English to get a chance to communicate with people (polish is too hard for Portuguese speakers). Well, if I am not wrong, in Russian are 6 cases, not 7. But I might be wrong. But still it's hard to say what language is harder, because they are similar and they have their own difficulties. For example in Russian you don't speak like you write all the time. The first example which came to my mind is ,,o" they read as ,,a", but not always. And it's hard to know for non russian speakers when you should say ,,o" and when ,,a" In Polish you basically read like you write (they are some exceptions, but only a few), but polish words are harder to pronounce than in Russian because of fact, that consonants are often next to each othe.

I will probably stick with the West/East-Germanic languages (Norwegian, Dutch, Danish) rather than West-Slavic (Polish). My friend taking Russian says it's easy for her to learn Polish now (since Russian is an East-Slavic language in the same family). Pretty cool. Because of the grammar, Polish is not a particularly difficult language (the grammar is similar to other Slavic languages and is certainly not easy). The much bigger hurdle for the beginner is PRONUNCIATION! In any case, it is significantly more difficult for Germans than pronouncing Russian, which is not a particularly big obstacle for Germans. That's why with Polish it's important to learn the pronunciation before you actually learn it, otherwise every new word becomes a pronunciation puzzle and you'll go crazy. Here the Polish PRONUNCIATION is explained for German speakers (particularly good, the teacher speaks German and Polish as a native language) and VERY GOOD for English speakers. 👉 hej.polska: www.youtube.com/@hej.polska

😭my little brain just had a stroke! I should've known because a few years ago I took an exam where I had to use a calculator that uses polish notation... it wasn't great! 😢what's the trick here, how do I make this make sense?

both verbs and prepositions are a trigger for different cases, which means: the endings change

Polish is difficult because the declension has 7 cases? Finnish has 15 and Hungarian has 25 :)

there is no such thing as difficult language or the most difficult etc.., every language has its special difficulty after all it depends how different your native language is from the target language and even if thats the case you still can learn it almost as easy as any other language you just need to immerse yourself in it, english for example can be the hardest language for a lot of people but the only reason it isnt is simply bc its the most used language in the world and all content everywhere is in english and bc of this it tends to be easier just bc you are surrounded by it if polish was a more known language it would be as easy as english in that case..

i actually dont think grammatical cases are that hard. ive been learning them step by step, one at a time. so far ive learned the accusative sg. and instrumental sg. i actually find verb conjugations to be slightly harder. this may not be true for everyone. especially those who polish is the first foreign language that they are learning.
