In the upcoming year, the 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell will join the ranks as one of only three hydrogen-powered electric vehicles offered in the United States. Honda's previous foray into the hydrogen fuel-cell segment was in 2021 with the Clarity Fuel Cell, which was a sleek sedan designed for aerodynamic efficiency. However, this time around, Honda is taking a different approach by basing its next hydrogen vehicle on its popular CR-V crossover, the company's top-selling model. Although Honda has not divulged many details about the CR-V Fuel Cell, it's anticipated that the crossover will share much of its design with the conventional gas-powered SUV. Competing against the Toyota Mirai sedan and Hyundai Nexo crossover, the CR-V Fuel Cell is expected to have limited availability. Honda plans to produce 2000 units of the fuel cell system annually by 2025, with some destined for shipment to its industry partner General Motors. While it's possible that the CR-V Fuel Cell may follow the path of the Clarity Fuel Cell and be exclusively sold in California, Honda has not yet specified its distribution plans.
