My 2005 Civic is a borderline-beater. It looks to be in decent condition visually, inside and out, although these is some small scratches on the front bumper. But the handbrake needs tightened, as it can't even lock the rear wheels unless it is snowing.

I had that problem with my 97 Camry. The door handles kept breaking. I broke all four of my front door handles before I decided to finally buy some stupid door handles😂 I was climbing in and out the window or the back seats. It was fine unless I was in a serious hurry, it ended up getting really annoying.

I'm a proud owner of a 2000 Avalon XLS with the Bench seat. Damn good car. Got it at 203k Miles. Now at 274k. Leather, Auto Dual zone climate control, automatic up and down drivers side window, and auto dimming rear view mirror makes me like that care more than my 09 Vibe. An upgraded sound system will make this car feel like you're not missing much out of new cars.

All my cars have been beaters. I honestly cant bring myself to spend more than a thousand bux on a car. Sure they may only last 4 years if im lucky but i dont have car payments, insurance is dirt cheap, i dont care what happens to it, they're more fun cause all those bad ideas are perfectly fine in a beater as well as every puddle with or without the hidden pot hole. I can do my own repairs and it doesnt matter if i mess up or break stuff. The interior is a mobile trash can. I can smoke/burn anything in it. Dirty shoes and oily hands don't matter and the redline is where I decide it is and this off the top of my head. Basically, with a beater, the answer is always... "YES!"

Dorian Johnson 04 Hyundai accent and of all the cars I've ever owned it is by far the best hands down... I can beat the hell outta it and it just takes it. It does anything i ask of it. Took the rear seats out and used it to haul so much crap. Firewood, snowblowers etc. Parts are dirt cheap. Often I can buy a parts car take what I need, sell it and make $ off repairing my car. Its amazing in the snow, i think its half snowmobile. I could ramble on for paragraphs but I think u get my point. Great car. Oh and it gets amazing milage.

Funny enough, my 2000 Toyota Avalon was my first car and it's been the most reliable thing I've ever owned. It'll probably be my beater till the end of time since they're indestructible.

My beater is a 1996 Toyota Avalon currently with 352k miles. Its currently my most stress free and most driven car. My other cars are VW CC, VW Touareg, SLK55 AMG. It's great, I never worry about where I park or feel guilty about driving the mileage up. I take care of it of course so it runs great and the 1MZFE engine won't die

2002 Toyota Echo. 275k on the odometer. Never lets me down, I love that little car.

have the perfect beater - 2007 civic sedan with over 140k, manual, 31 mpg, relatively agile, surprisingly zippy unloaded . done more camping trips and light offroading than most people do in their jeeps. Driven across the country multiple times. Trailered motorcycles to the track, mountain bikes and boards. A 4runner would be nice but it's hard to give this thing up - just keeps on going.

Having a beater car also keeps the mileage off the good car and keeps it out of weather plus the good car is always clean and it don't lose it's value as quick it was the best decision I ever made getting a daily beater truck

So you still have debt on your fancy car.

My wife drives an '02 Protege, great car and fun to drive. As for the struts, the fronts were available as a kit from Monroe mounted to new springs with all-new bushings, steering bearings, etc. For around $100 per side, a good buy. After bolting them in, had to get a wheel alignment. Do not ignore front struts on your beater: worn struts can cause loss of control on the highway if the car hits a large bump, like we have here in the Northeast. The rear struts are not as critical, and can be much harder to replace. The only was to avoid front struts is to drive an older rear-drive car, which had bolt-on shocks.

Love the video- this is my jam, i drive 300 miles a week in my beater which i figure keeps 15000 miles a year off of my 2021 Silverado Truck Beauty! And just like you say, when i get into my truck on the weekends only, it feels like a new truck. I when i go to downtown Minneapolis or St Paul Mn, i park my car in the hood worry free- if someone keys it , or God forbid steals it, no biggie! Plus you get to just keep liability insurance on it! I bought the cheap, no name, struts for my '02Avalon with 168k miles. $99 for the pair ($50 per corner) have been great and totally worth it. I also paid $1k for the Avalon.

Just bought a 2017 Subaru WRX. While not the most exotic car on the planet, it's still a blast to drive and nice enough for me to not want to daily it every single day and take it to shady places. That being said, time to start shopping for a beater!

Got a 99' Corolla with 114,000 miles. Paint/clearcoat is almost gone. Inside door trim has peeled of. Headliner is held up by pins. It's rusty and it has dents and some damage. I can't open the drivers side door in cold weather (weird, but true). But I love the damn thing. It's reliable and gets me there. Just got a Toyota Echo and don't know if I want, or can afford to keep the Corolla. It's silly, but if I sell it, I don't want a jerk, who won't take care of it, to get it. No matter how the car looks, I did take care of it mechanically religiously.

Wow, KZread sure is recommending the right content. I did exactly this a few weeks ago, as I was sick of my nice G6E Turbo getting stone chips everywhere and kilometers added to the odometer. Bought a little 2003 Toyota Echo for daily duty, and it's great. I don't care if it gets dented, rained on, dusty, scratched, etc. It just has to be reliable and get me from A-B, and being a Toyota, it'll do it forever. It also uses next to no fuel, which is incredible. $40 to fill the tank, lasts me almost a month. My G6E Turbo costs a good $100 to fill (and it needs premium), and I'll get maybe a week out of 80 liters. Beater cars ftw

My mom has a 2003 RAV4 and a 2013 RAV4. I TOTALLY agree with point # 1 in that I appreciate the newer RAV after every time I drive the '03. But I love the 03 though. I'm more at ease on the road and less worried about damaging it (but it's got some dings already lol). I advise everyone to not ditch your old cars. They're more valuable than you think.

LUVVVVV Beater cars .... 2003 Mercedes ML500 (my winter drive) this SUV is a tank in the snow .. Its safe for my kids ....sloppy winter boots .... Sloppy winter dogs .... Bring it !!!! Someone rear ended me the other day and they put their bumper thru my trailer hitch and I got out and laughed !! (I told the guy don't worry about it ) for this reason all people who don't drive beaters should respect them, especially if you hit one !! All this is truly luxury at its best while my both Porsche's hibernate !! I bought this SUV for 3K 3yrs ago and and have put 30,000K during the crap months over the years on it with minor maintenance. In a way I love this car as much as my nice cars !!!

I hear you 80's american boats as you mention are the true beaters but there should be another sub segment - luxury beaters. Many older luxury cars now fall into this category because they can be had cheap. Example - I keep seeing a guy in my area driving an old Bently Beater !! Cheers !!

I'm driving 2001 Lexus GS 300 bought it 6 years ago with 95.000 grandma miles .. I put 70,000 miles on it no money into it. Awesome daily driver comfortable every single thing still works. And super affordable

I have the same car and I bought it when my parents gave me 2 grand and told me to buy my first car. It's been my beater for a while now and I love how little I have to take care of it.

I think the idea of a beater car and a nice car is a great idea. I have a 96 manual Civic Sedan as my beater, and it's great. I take good care of it and like it but if something like a shopping cart hit it, it would make me sad but it wouldn't ruin my month so bad.

You make good points and I get it. I bought a 2018 Audi A3 2 months ago and I kept my old 08 Rabbit. I used the rabbit to and from work and really loved when I drive my Audi on the weekends. I recently sold my Rabbit to my nephew since he needed a new car, and now that I drive my Audi every day I've lost a bit of my appreciation for it. Still love it ofc, but I feel so use to it now.

Or a 1999 elantra where none for the windows roll down and theres not inderior door handles. The headliner isnt even there. Niether are the visors. The car decides when to run and when to stall.

Great vid. I recently got a beater 1996 Mitsubishi Magna for $250. It's a stick shift 3 litre v6 wagon. Has a noisy cv but tip top othet than that. The best part is, i don't care about it! Keeps the miles off my sc400 and 300zx and i can drive it like i stole it!

I own a 2006 Camry. In recent years I have been hit three separate times. Each time I was rear ended by a local woman. Each time it was bumper to bumper so no damage. One did leave a black rubber mark where she hit the corner of my bumper. It looks like a hickey. I posted on Facebook that these (local area) women are smacking my behind. :)

I bought a '99 Avalon a year and a half ago. Put about 20k on it so far and, at 177k, she still sails on down the road.

My grandmother has a high trim level Toyota Avalon of the same generation original owner. Although she lives on the opposite side of the country I've ridden in it here and there when visiting her and it is super comfy. I even once drove it and it felt good.

Dude I agree I have a 2018 Audi S5 Convertible. About 5 months back I got a 2012 Hyundai accent with 113,000 miles on it to be honest I take it everywhere now I can get in dirty from the gym,work and I park it anywhere and the best part 87 octane 40hwy 30 city and the Audi is a treat to drive when we go out dressed up.

My outside door handle broke off my 97 Camry. So I climbed in from the passenger side, which was fine until the inside one broke off as well. So I had to get in AND out the passenger side. Which was fine until the passenger inside door handle broke off. So I rolled the passenger window down to reach out and open the door to get out. Which was fine until the outside passenger door handle broke off. I spent a couple weeks climbing in and out of my Camry through the back seat. I then decided this was ridiculous and needed to actually put some money into my beater to get door handles. haven’t broke one since. I guess they were just old, I dunno😂

2004 f150 205,000 miles and still counting, ive only done oil changes to it since ive owned it, had it for 2 years.

My first beater, '98 accord sedan was my DD during my college years until I bought my second beater, a '99 galant. Now, both are project cars while I got a '15 Camry for DD and business use.

My sisters 2004 Volvo S60 was the beater of a lifetime. Perfect commuter car for school because it was safe, reliable(mostly) and when it got hit it did not matter because the rear door was already caved in lmao plus it had super comfy heated seats.

I've had a 2003 BMW 330I since it was almost new. I love it to the point it has now become my beater but it still runs great, is fun to drive and as long as I keep doing preventive maintenance on it I don't see it dying any time soon. I've now since passed it on to my wife to learn to drive and gain experience. The best thing is I don't have a car payment on it and I've learned how to work on it courtesy of KZread and has now become my hobby as well.

I love beater cars!! Once i got my C7 Corvette i knew i needed a beater car. I love driving the beater car on the weekdays. On the weekends i will take the nicer car out to car meets or go for mountain runs and then put it away till next weekend. I definetly appreciate the car much more.

That is why my B210&my 96 corolla wagon are the best two grand I have ever spent.

I got myself a 2008 Toyota Prius as a beater car. At first, it was a joke but then I actually got surprised by how good it actually is. Of course, it's a Prius, the looks are already bad enough to not care for. But as for a daily, damn is it well equipped for its age. Hybrid technology, amazing fuel economy, push start and keyless entry & drive are quite awesome. It locks itself whenever I get far with the key in my pocket or bag, the touchscreen is acceptable but even to this day, very easy to use. The storage is unbelievable, I can fit so much stuff in it. I can see the electric steering being a cool feature for those who just want to relax. Honestly, all of this made me love the Prius if it wasn't for it's ridiculous but functional appearance I can see it as my main car.

I have the BEST BEATER IN THE COUNTRY! It's a 1989 e30 M3 i pulled out of a field in Georgia for a grand. It had no title, interior, drive train, and not a single piece of suspension. The paint is rough but the body is pretty straight just had the back bumper cracked and half hanging off. If filed for lost title and got one three months later, bought a non running regular e30 and swapped everything over, swapped in a M52 from an e36 328i and zip tied the rear bumper back in place. It's a blast to drive and i don't have to worry about door dings or it getting stolen because the outside is so rough. I wish i could post a pic because to car guys it's awesome looking with a fake Evo lip, 16'' BBS weaves, and HR lowering springs. I think i have about $4K in it at this point. Only thing left is to install AC components. BTW love the channel.

I bought a beater car in 2015. 97 camry best car hands down. Cheap to maintain and operate. Great on gas and overall a comfy ride. I recommend older toyotas if you want a cheap reliable car.

I drive a 2007 Seat Ibiza (which is basically a VW Polo) as my daily beater. It does the job for what I want it do. Gets me to work, grocery run, seeing family & friends and any errands I have. It's got a few door dints and some rust but I really don't care. I had a child once opened a door on my car and it left a new dint. I really didn't care much at all. As long the engine starts up straight away and it drives smoothly, that's all I care about. Don't wash it but do give it a regular service. Runs like a clock and close to 100k miles (which is considered high in the UK).

I drive a '98 Camry as a beater car. The clear coat is gone, the paint is gone, the headlights are yellowed and a hubcap is gone. Drove it to three different states with it and it's super reliable. I have not had a single problem with it and I am glad I bought one.

I bought a 2006 Prius as a daily driver/beater and it's amazing. I put the 20,000 mile or 1 year Mobile oil in it. I fill it up every two weeks on payday regardless if it's empty or not and I just check the oil level. All the gas money I save goes to e85 or c16 and go fast parts.

Our other beater is a 2007 Prius. Laugh all you want, it has leather, sunroof, heated seats, proximity key, rear camera etc ...Crazy cheap to operate which is great when you have teenage drivers who are always needing to borrow a car.

I have a early 2000s Avalon also as my daily. Cheap insuruance, cheap maintenance, lots of space because I'm tall. I got it from a 83 year old grandpa. When I park at the shopping centre or multi level car park, I always park next to the fancy newer cars so there's a very low chance they would damage their nice new car against my old beater car.

I have a 2004 Volvo XC70 beater with 340,000 kms and it's still going strong with little to no maintenance, and I almost enjoy it as much as my main car.

I have owned the same beater going on 16 years now. I used to say I was going to move it on year after year, as I got so bored with driving the same car throughout the whole winter as well as the rainy days throughout the rest of the year. I paid$2,400 for my 1996 Honda Civic 5 speed with 105,000 miles on it. My War Horse has two good dents and a lot of things along with minimal rust. The power door locks stopped working, only two windows work, but most important of all the heater and AC still work well.

I will say blown shocks is q safety concern, you can still drive but it causes much more wear. It also causes instability in certain situations, potholes and bumps eventually can make that wheel bounce like a basketball which is why ball joints and CV axles will wear faster.

always drove beaters,til about 2 years ago and bought a 2012 Nissan frontier.still have my beater 87 s15 for hauling trash or mulch or gravel or taking the dog to the vet.

Beaters are always a good decision. My beater is an 03 s10 zr2. Can’t not have 4x4 where I live so it’s not completely ideal as a beater but it still counts!

2006 Honda Odyssey with 250,000 Miles is my beater & I love it....it’s protected my Porsche 911 for many years and now my Acura NSX! Gotta have yourself a beater...that’s no joke!

Has the maintaince been very expensive like engine or transmission or just regular also have you taken it on any road trips recently?

My beater car is a 03 Saturn L200 with the 2.2 ecotec, saggy headliner blown speakers scratched bumpers dents but it gets 40 mpg and my work is 30 miles away plus it’s extremely comfortable. Bought it for $1500 only needed tires brakes and a oil change

Although i agree fundamentally, i think it comes down to lifestyle choice somewhat. I live in the cold, artic essentially and we have winter driving conditions for about 6 months or more. I've worked hard to establish my career and want to splurge a bit; therefore, the last thing i want to drive is something that i kicked around in university when i couldn't afford a thing. When the weather opens up my '13 335i xdrive goes away and i take out my S1000R in the summer and ride the rest of the 6 months (even in inclement weather). Each to their own of course. I'm debating getting an even nicer summer ride but can't justify it at this time. Good review .. Love your vids.

How do you deal with the insurance? Do you keep all your cars insured or move it from one to another?

My beater car is an older Ford Ranger. I love having a beater car, I do care about it because it is how I get to work and I do not want it to break on the way home. My "fun" car is a 2016 Ford F-150 King Ranch, I drive that truck on the weekends most of the time. As you can tell, I like Ford!

2003 Honda Jazz (Fit in the US). £900 and everything works and zero rattles (well apart from the heat shield!). Much prefer it to my Skoda Octavia DSG auto which my wife now has. My next car will be a 90's Toyota Camry I think.

I used to drive my parents 2004 Honda Odyssey, it was my first car, my daily driver when I was in high school, my beater. I liked it. My car now is a used 2015 Toyota Camry and it has more features and is nicer than that old van. But that old Honda Odyssey was pretty decent. My parents didn’t want to keep putting money into that van so they traded it for the used Camry. But I would have 100% bought that van from them and drive it to the wheels fall off dispute the AC system going bad, the power steering going bad, the power sliding doors getting stuck, minor electrical issues, and a squeaky rear suspension, but that van was pretty reliable mechanically over all, I still see a ton of second generation Honda Odysseys still driving.

I've always kept a beater small pickup. It's a loaner, it's a spare, it's my go the Lowe's or go to the landfill. Don't care how it looks or what goes in it.

Man the way you park your car is exactly how I park, and that's self abuse, lol, I legimently search for a good and "too safe" parking spot, no matter how far it is from where I'm heading to. And about beater car, I agree with you, altough I really don't like the car itself, but IMO, you should have a beater if you have a nice car.

Beater cars are awesome! I still try to keep mine a little nice - I do wash it, vacuum it, maintain and repair it, etc, but I’m not as crazy about keeping it perfect. Mine is a 2000 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro, which is one of the best beaters I could ask for! It’s reliable, comfortable, safe, simple, and versatile. What more could you want? It does use Premium, but that’s a small price to pay for a nicer-than-average beater.

i live in a not so good area of ls angeles .....many times my car gets scratch i dont know how...no point in driving a nice car here

How much did you get it and just the headlights caused problems?

Have always bought cars older than 10 years and less than 5k. Only bought 2 true beaters, a '91 civic, which was my winter beater for 2016-17, and was running on a bad head gasket. and a '97 s-15 Jimmy. Paid $500 for both, disposed of the civic, sold the jimmy to make space. And I LOVE beater cars too. They're just perfect, like that old, torn up hoodie that you have no business wearing but you can't throw it out because it's comfortable. My current daily (And hopefully for a long, long time) is my '92 GMC K1500 Yukon. It's not showroom pretty, but I love her to death and would drive her forever. she's not a cheap girl tho, she drinks a lot of gas.

I had a beater Chevy pickup it was the best thing off-roading parking washing rust I didn’t give a shit about it. Till this day I want another and I might just get one again!!

I got a beater car and a backup beater car. 91 Mazda 323 hatchback And a 99 Chevy metro which gives me 47 mpg 👀 it takes a little bit of work but once you get it going… the money comes stacking

I love beater cars. U can do whatever you want with them and then just sell them or junk them and buy another one.
