This reminds me of the 2018-19 season where Liverpool were near peerless, lost a single game in the whole season, conceded the least goals, came one point short, got 1/6 pts vs City but knocked them out of UCL. So they made the beast bleed. That’s us right now

All you need to do is look back at AFC history. We slapped up the smaller teams. Thats how we won titles in the past. We don't need to reinvent the wheel. We have 90% of the squad to do so. So let's get the player to improve the team and move again.

Is Olise not a viable option for us? His relatively new position in the middle for Palace lately shows some Foden-esque qualities especially his ability to turn after receiving the ball with the goal at his back (see vs Villa game, 1st 2 goals). Being that be can also play on the right wing, is that an option that would be very good for us?

I don’t think Saliba playing every game is a huge issue because we have so many defenders who can cover that position if needed. White can play RB and either Tomi or Timber can step into RB. Rice could play CB as a last resort

I've been in NYC this week for work, I brought a different kit for each day I was here. I watch'd the final game at killer gooner pub (sweet), and I saw 100's of arsenal kits, and I don't think I saw a single Man City kit in the whole city. When I argue with City fans I point out that out of three games this season Arsenal beat City twice, drew once and City couldn’t even score a goal. You know what they say? That the goal was a deflection and one of the wins was on penalties. Amazing the mental hoops they have to jump through

Jesus is a natural 8 - strong, technically excellent, knows where to pass and runs his heart out. Not to mention his tackling and ball stealing in the middle. It is in my mind Arteta's biggest mistake playing Jesus out of position. Invest all the money in a prime CF and a winger instead.

I agree. Or at least I’ve wanted to see us try this for a while now. I still like the original idea of pairing a left-8 who can slide up to become a second striker with a CF who can drop to become a 4th midfielder, but the more I’ve seen of them the more I think we’ve simply had Jesus and Havertz the wrong way round. The attack certainly functions better with Havertz as the CF, providing structure and presence and a predictable point to look for, and I wonder if CM would be a better fit for Jesus’s natural inclination to be where the action is? He certainly has a lot of qualities that could be useful in that role, and it’s not like we haven’t tried everyone else there - Havertz, Trossard, Rice, Vieira, Smith Rowe, etc. Why not Jesus?

@@yangzixiang6605 i dont think Arteta will ever put him as CB unless we run out of options though. He wants tall monsters for CBs with strong Ariel ability. That's Timber's biggest weakness even from Ajax days. The pecking order for CBs will likely be Gabriel/Saliba -> Tomiyasu -> Kiwior -> White -> Rice -> Timber. That isnt a slight on timber though, but his qualities are clearly more suited for LB/RB in Arteta's system.

One variable you guys dont think of is, remember 2 years back when arsenal finished 5th and straight up went to challenge for the league next season? That will happen with a chelsea, united, liverpool, spurs. The odds will make it happen if you know what i mean. I think arsenal fans are totally ignorant of this variable. Saka, saliba, rice, white, gabriel almost played 35-36/38 games. Injuries will occur eventually especially with the intensity arteta demands his players to defend and attack, that is very hard to replicate or have players consistently available throughout. Also top 6 record being best , is that sustainable i doubt. A win draw almost every big game/ both wins. These are not normal, these are anomalies (even by arsenal's standards) but those villa fulham west ham games also wont repeat so it kind of will even itself out.

I'm not sure I can agree with the 5th and challengers and the odds will make it happen comment. I've supported arsenal since the last 80's, a young boy, but nevertheless and have seen the PL era in its entirety. Not sure about you. But I can't remember a team finishing in 5th-8th like we had for a number of years, to then jumping to becoming title challengers. There's at least some progression first or a squad ready for it anyway, bear a couple of signings, where a manager comes in and makes an instant impact. The latter has happened a few times, but our situation was more rare. Not saying its unique either, just rare/unusual. Each of those clubs you mention have their own "journeys", depending on a number of factors. Yep, injuries will happen and there is an element of luck with them. The club of course does its best to avoid it, but its going to happen. Not sure what your point is really... all we can do is control what we can and learn, improve and improve the squad. What happens with other clubs, is simply out of our control. We can only focus on what we're doing. We're a good place overall. Things to improve on, 100%, but overall we are in a good place to challenge for trophies🤷‍♂

@@TK-tl6ci I was more specific then that, but perhaps didn't explain it well. A team that had been finishing 5th-8th for a quite a number of seasons, **then** to challengers is a lot more unusual. Liverpool and Chelsea, like you said went from challenging, dropping places, back to challenging again. That's the difference. Villa finished 4th and have a good squad, so adding some quality, yes potentially they could challenge. Adding 20 pts its not easy, they have to get a lot right though.

The Arsenal must get Diamande, Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon and Palhina or Fofana from Monaco from Fulham and we challenge for everything. Gyokeres is natural finisher that's already made finished product and available.

You can hire the second best tactician in football history (assume Arteta is not), and he will not win the title. Because Pep is the best tactician in football history. Are we going to break ffp rules and spend like ManCity did? No. So on both tactical front and financial front, no matter who our manager is, we are not going to win the title, unless we have a bit of luck. The best any team can do is keep challenging until the luck has come.

If people want to criticise, at least criticise the right thing. I don’t think Rodri understands how big of a gap is, in terms of football ability between ManCity and Arsenal. ManCity players are so much more skillful on the ball. Fact is, if the bus was not parked, we would have lost 3-0 to ManCity and get out of the title race way earlier. Speaking of mentality, ManCity had an easy win against West Ham. They don’t even need to show their mentality. Whereas Arsenal players are less skillful than ManCity players, they need to show their mentality to get a hard fought win against Everton. With the amount to late equalisers and late winners Arsenal get (because of their lack of ability), they are one of the best teams in the league in terms of mentality.

Agree that Arsenal was fortunate to get a result in the games against ManCity. But a few years back we always lost 3-0, 4-0, when we play against them. We have improved a lot to make it close enough. So that when the luck comes, we can have the possibility to get a result. So credit to Arsenal to have the improvement. ManCity is clearly the better team, they hire the best tactician in football history, they bought a world class squad back then with unlimited money. If you don’t keep improving how can you possibly get even close to that standard? The best other teams can do is keep challenging until the luck has come.
