Here's What Happens When a Carpenter does Electronics

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The outside of the case is made from solid maple and the top panel is 1/8" thick aluminum painted black. I finished the wood with three coats of waterbased polyurethane.
I love the simple, clean lines and the stark contrast between the painted black parts and the warm natural wood and amber glow from the meters.
The project uses an LM4780 dual channel chip amp that can put out around 50 watts rms into 8 ohm speakers. Not super powerful, but the speakers I built this for don't need a lot of power.
I designed and made the PCB for the chip amp, but wound up redoing the design and making a new circuit board when I made too many mistakes on the first one. All part of the fun!
Also inside the amp case is another circuit board that has an active filter that cuts out the bass. The amp is more than capable of full range output, but I don't want any low frequencies going to the small speakers and the active filter does that.
I built this amp for these speakers: • Amazing Sound and Cool...
NOTE: The chip amp I used for this is obsolete now, but I have a few from when I was much deeper into electronics 15 years ago.

Thank you for jumping right into it John! I find myself skipping the first 1-2 minutes of everyone else's useless introduction and subscription/like begging. If your content is good, one shouldn't need to ask. And by the way, you never cease to amaze me with your design and all-around building skills.

Hi John, this is a really slick design I love it. I've stopped etching PCB's a long time ago, it's nice to see that some people still does that. But it's also true that most of the PCB's I design have some surface mount piece on them and it's quite hard to etch surface mount for an hobbyist. But I'm super impressed of your amplifier

Thanks, I used a mix in my newest multi-channel amp where I made the power supply boards, but ordered the ones for the amps and crossover boards. I really like the professionally made ones, but then you have to wait for them to get here, and they are less forgiving if you've made a mistake that needs to be fixed.

@@JohnHeisz I know I make mistakes and I have to fix them with wire wrap wires. But I always fill the empty spaces with pads so if I forgot a component I can put it there, so most of my PCB's have wire wrap wires😉 But between $1.50 to $6 for 10 PCB's I can wait a couple of weeks, having a silkscreen is heaven. I use a lot of ESP32 but only the modules not the development board so it's easy to solder them in place with silk screen, but I elongate the pads I didn't build my oven yet so I have to use a soldering iron. We're far from what I've learned in college with black sticking strip and UV system.
