She admitted her wrongs after she got caught. What the article doesn't mention is that her teammates on the relay teams also lost their medals, and had to return the money they received from competing and placing. So, she effectively screwed them all over too. Jones was selfish, a cheater, and dishonest, and people who trusted her got hurt.

She admitted it because she was caught deads to rights. She even went on the Oprah Winfrey show during it's hey day and lied to her right to her face with her snaggled tooth. Had so many young girls looking up to her. I had a niece who was a rising track star during the time and she could not get through throwing her shoes out. Just the selfishness of her.

What's greatness in cheating? She cheated, lied, took shine from honest and hardworking people at the time, and for you that's greatness. My anger is that, there are many of her kind who went away with this, and today we see them as "GREAT"; we shouldn't let people like her make honest or hardworking people think that, hardwork and honesty does not pay. If people would be honest with themselves and not so self-righteous, this is a good example of the tribulations of normal life. If you are talented, there is an early time period of fantasy land where everybody thinks you can walk on water. So, you try not to disappoint people, but you soon realize it is an impossible standard to uphold. Eventually, you either cheat or come to grips with how you actually cannot walk on water. Then adult life begins.

My opinion: For when I started hearing about the rumors and allegations that Marion Jones was taking performance enhancing drugs, I was giving her the benefits of the doubt. I stopped feeling sorry for her when I began to notice the pattern of her promoting a drug-free image only to end-up getting caught...with drugs herself. It was then that I realized she wasn't taking drugs by accident. She was doing it by her own free-will. I can appreciate her admitting to it, but she shot her credibility to hell. That's mainly why she retired from track and from sports in-general. I suspect the pressure of having to win is what drove her to cheat.
