In this video, I show you the camera gear I use to make my KZread videos. I discuss how I make KZread videos outdoors using what I think to be the best vlogging set up for KZread. I believe the best camera for making videos is the one you have on you. I’ve always got my iPhone 14 pro in my pocket and the video quality is superb. I also take the compact GoPro hero, 11 Black. And I also carry a compact wireless microphone system to record my KZread audio and how I sync up all of the audio to the video put together the final clip to KZread.

There's a lot more to this KZread lark than I appreciated. There is a hiking & wild camping KZreadr who often complains their video's don't get enough views to warrant the effort involved. I kind of see his point now.
So much goes into your YT films Paul. Thanks for giving us an insight 👍🏴
You make it look so easy - and it isn't as I have found with my pathetic results filming and editing things.
Mate I just used my iphone to film my grand canyon trip. Footage was better than I thought. Remind me why I lug 5KG of camera gear up a mountain?
Brilliant! Thanks Paul. I really appreciate your common sense approach. I am only 3 months into my KZread journey and still working with borrowed kit. I have been filming at my desk so far and plan to do more videos outside when I get the hang of everything. This video has been great to give me an idea of some of the kit I will need. Would it be possible for you do do a video on how you plan, execute and edit your videos? I think a lot of people (me especially) would find it really interesting.
Paul this video fills in all those blanks spots where one says Oh crikey where I go from here type scenarios. It's highly amiable of you to unselfishly share these extremely important videoing tips and points that cut through all the technical jargon to a more simpler language for a clearer understanding. All truly well appreciated. Thanks old mate. All the very best in Health, Wealth and Happiness to you and your family from the land of endless summer, Cambodia. 👌👌💯
Thank you very much for this extremely informative technical insight. Thanks for being transparent & sharing behind the scene gear list. I will be using your advice, which reflects how rare & valuable such sharing of experience can be in some aspects of the creative industries. I greatly appreciate your openness & no doubt how it will support newbie mobile based film makers.
This is awesome! Doing the audio sync manually is a nightmare. Just throwing all footage and audio in the timeline and start cutting is so easing.
The sync firmware thingy on the GoPro is interesting 👌
As someone who makes cycling related outdoor content it was great to see someone else's tools and processes - cheere for sharing
Yeah, really interesting ‘behind the scenes’ video. It’s great to see what you use to create these videos.
I would love to start filming my hikes and camps but just listening to the jargon about the computer is enough to make me squirm. Got rid of the dslr because i had so much footage on cards and no clue as to what to do with it. Still, at least i get out there which is the main thing and when i get back i can chill and watch your videos😊
This is awesome! I’ve recently bought some of that gear and about to test it this week in the peaks! Struggling with the go pro battery duration at the moment! Just have to bring extra charges!
Nice set up Paul, really liking the look of the Tentacle audio set up. I didn't quite get it when you were explaining it to me but makes sense now. Like that tripod at the beginning too. Not as steady as the Aoka but lighter and quicker. 🤔
Brilliant description of your modus operandi. Anyone wanting to 'do' KZread could learn umpteen things from your video.... you could write a book on it but *this* would still be essential viewing! Respect!
As a new channel I really appreciate this. It’s been very helpful!
I would either stake out the tripod to stop it from falling over or put something over the legs like a rucksack if you're just filming around camp. A length of guy rope and a lightweight peg would probably do. Great insight as to how you film and your methodology in terms of workflow. ATB.
Fair Play Paul. That was probably double the editing time than a wild camp. Always hard have to edit multiple different cameras. Loved it. Have the hero 10, mini 2, just purchased the insta360 X3 " editing learning curve" and have the Poco X3 which films in 4K. Loved this video man.. great tips.
Great video m8, not everyone would share their "tricks of the trade"
Great info Paul. I'll be referencing this video again. This is why you're my favourite Wild Camping channel. Every video teaches you something useful, whereas a vast number of similar channels are made up of clickbait videos with very little educational value whatsoever. You're creating awesome content 🤘 I've been using the GoPro Hero 5 black for years. It's only downfall is that it doesn't zoom so I struggle to capture some of the amazing wildlife I see. Also my content would probably bore the arse off people coz I tend to just film sections of my walks. Maybe I should overdub a bit of historical narrative over it or something, if I'm going to upload it. Or I could do what so many others do, keep my boring content and title it 'CAMPING HERE WAS LIKE CAMPING IN THE FOREST IN DELIVERANCE' BOOM: KZread made easy 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hello from Cornwall. I live at the bottom of Dartmoor. You're lucky to live near such campable beauty. We used to camp on North Cliffs; that feeling of looking out over the ocean and scale starts to play havoc with you. May you have an extra month on your mortal coil; free of charge.
Thanks Paul, a great insight for someone like me who is learning all the stuff. Thank you.
Excellent tutorial, thinking of dipping my toes into making content.
Great in depth look at the gear, I'm a nightmare for cameras, have GoPro 10,11, DJI mini 2, DJI Pocket 2 and Sony ZV-1 I find myself using Gorpo as it's mush way easier tbh lol I so love my Sony for better picture tho! The pocket 2 has the wireless mic and that's a game changer for audio but the screen is to small lol
The magician shows how the tricks are done. The quality of this channel has always been high. That disappearing boom blew me away when you started using it. I didn't know how you were getting those shots. I thought it was all drone and you were master drone pilot but I never heard the whine sound they make.
Thank you for sharing this, Paul. I'm looking to make my videos better asap and this has given me some great ideas and info on how to do that. Cheers, all the very best, Davey.
Thanks for sharing your equipment and also how you p[produce the videos, Paul, awesome.
If I ever use a separate audio recorder... I still clap! 😂 Reminder that I’ll show you round a £400k camera system whenever we can figure it out. Look forward to the new audio 👍
Thank as a new channel it’s great to see how bigger channels do it.
Brilliant info and very helpful. Im not technical at all, so its good to see how much work and effort goes into making these videos. Thanks 😊
I am always so impressed by your seamless narration and your ability to cover so much content in such a short video. Your videos are so well put together it is hard to believe there isn’t a crew behind the camera managing the ‘set’. Thanks for sharing these hardware tips with us!
Woooow this is so valuable for us who look up to you bro, keep up the good work ❤❤🎉
Been waiting for something like this Paul.....short but sweet all the details mate 💯
Thanks Paul I love the honesty and detail in this video, I’ve been waiting a long time for this so thank you 🙏🏻 great stuff!!
Fantastic insight. Thanks so much for such a detailed video.
As someone with a new channel i found this very helpful! Loving your videos from uo here in Scotland 🏴
Thankyou Paul for your generous sharing. ❤
Thanks for sharing Paul.
been waiting for a video like this for along time. really good to know what you use and provides me with ideas for my content. thanks Paul...as always great content. thanks so much.
P.s. Can't look at that last gadget and not think of Sideshow Bob 😂😂
Congratulations for the video👍 you gave me interesting ideas that I will soon propose on my KZread channel👍
Thanks mate ,this might help me enhance my channel.especially the audio
Brilliant Paul, really helpful video
You've got more microphones than Kool and the Gang!
Very informative Paul, thank you.
Paul, Thank you. I have been looking for a video on this topic and as usual, you cover everything very well. Cheers,
Excellent Paul.. Thank You..
That's awesome equipment Paul thanks for sharing 👍
I'm a newbie go KZread and looking for new ideas and equipment for filming. This is a great little video that's proved quite helpful 👌🏻
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
Well done, mate! Great info. Simple, quality gear and always a great outcome.
this is what i need to see 👌 . hero 11 on order 👍
Very interesting 😊 Ive used the track e a few trips now thanks for help on that its very good Still learnings and need to learn more but generally its excellent and yes lighter than the dji set up a bonus I use the timecode and camera lettering in premier pro and bypass the Tentacle software totally Im messing up the iphovideo somehow its getting exposure wrong 😅
Thank you so much. This was a perfect video.
Good work!
I really like that iPhone mic set up, sort of thing I’m after, definitely be checking that link in the future mate.

The boya has really impressed me mate. You don’t get the wind furs with it. They are comica and cost about a tenner. But worth getting.
Hey Paulo - just thought you'd want to know, I just bought the Uurig tripod you demonstrated there - deliberately through you Amazon affiliate link!
Many thanks for this video Paul. lots of new kit I have not seen. Very impressive. Your videos are really professionally produced ! Love the camping too !
Thanks for the 'show and tell'. Have you tried the "Sync Audio to Video' feature that's built in to Premier? it just needs a finger click to camera and external sound recorder to work.... I don't know if its timecode accurate, but means you can use voicenote on your iPhone to record the audio and a different camera for the video. The Boya mic system looks cool though. Thanks
Really helpful video paul, thanks for sharing mate
Nice video. Very educating. Thanks
Really good information thanks
Solid info and tips here. Thank you!! 🐿
Love this video with the behind the scenes look at your channel Paul. These tips will vastly improve my channel also, not to mention the hard work you put in!
So much going on behind the scenes but very worthwhile because your videos are very professional.
Great insight.
Excellent video Paul, I am impressed to see you honing your camera tech craft which in turn produces quality videos.
Nice video, and great to see you using the X3, one of my favourite cameras. Will be looking to start my youtube journey and videos of me camping. So will follow to get more tips.
Brilliant very useful information
A pretty straightforward kit and shows that you don't need to mortgage the house to make videos.
Great Vid Paul
I do video professionally, and I'm always impressed by the quality of your videos. It was great to see a rundown of the gear you use.
For my next Wild Camp I want to bring my camera but it weighs like 3.2kg XD
Very interesting.
Thank you super interesting
Great video and insights, I liked the comment that you mostly carry iPhone and Go Pro
Hi Paul, useful video! I also film a lot of outdoors based content. I've always been on the look out for some sort of water proof mic I can use whilst paddle boarding I can use with the GoPro, but I have never come across one! Don't know if you have any suggestions? Also I think your video was cut short?
I really struggle to take DSLR out on overnighters. I did wonder if you still used a drone, not seen you talk about flying since your early videos a few years ago with Spark. I got myself a Mini 2 last year and it’s fantastic!
What advice would you give someone who's on a tight budget and is just about to start recording..thanks. God bless you and your family and happy camping 🏕 🙏 😊

I would just use your phone and a cheap lavalier microphone. Assuming you have a phone with a camera that is.
Love your video..its so difficult to organise a youtube tutorial...
Does the boya work on the normal video camera? I tried one once with my Samsung and it had to be on pro video to be able to link the Bluetooth sound to the mic.
👍
All great if your loaded !! You need a bank loan for all that gear just to start with 🤷🏻
You can have all the best gear in the world and not have a good eye for beauty its all worthless. You sir seem to be an excellent photographer and film maker.
Do you have any problems with the gopro ? see English Woodsman was saying his was playing up .

I’ve had no bother apart from overheating once. That was my fault though as I left the windslayer on indoors. I use the labs firmware, it’s important to have the sandisk extreme pro micro as card, I use the better enduro batteries and I don’t use a media mod which adds to the complications

@@PaulMessner cheers Paul , i had to send 2 osmo action 3s back as just not happy with them so hopefully the gopro will do the job 👌

@@daveandemmaoutdoors3171 by the way. You can install the gopro labs firmware even if you don’t want to use timecode. You can get a free qr code maker for gopro that gives you quick settings and additional features. Worth looking at and it’s endorsed by gopro so you can revert to standard firmware at any time.

An iPhone...oh well i guess you can't be perfect 😉
You must be raking it in to be able to afford all of that
Shameless advertising is now the norm then? Christ!
Great video mate. I am trying to capture video's of my fun and your explanation of your gear was very helpful. Thanks!
