First letter of BMW motorcycles represents the engine type, G for 1 cylinder, R for twin boxer, F for inline 2, S for inline 4, K for inline 6, wish that helps!

After years of racing and riding sport bikes on the street, culminating with an S1000RR, I bought an age-appropriate R1250RS. The S1KRR was frustrating to ride on the street and even on some race tracks. At Sonoma, running stock gearing, it never got out of 3rd. The R1250RS is pure pleasure but without the huge weight, weak brakes and cumbersome handling of most other touring bikes. The massive engine braking took some getting used to, but the many dementia aids (e.g. self cancelling winkers) are a blessing.

What I love about these moto vids you two do together is you both have your preferred bike styles and it makes these convos more fun IMO versus two cruiser guys or two dirt guys etc. Seeing Alex light up when you guys moved onto the sport models and Case with his head on his hand looking bored 😂

Had a number of BMW motorcycles, the old flying brick, GS1200, K1300. Currently ride an S1000RR. Sweet bike, very streetable and docile below 5000rpm but fierce on trackdays. Keeping the front wheel down out of turn 10 at Summit Main and using the linked brakes to come down from 170 for turn 1 makes you appreciate the performance (and electronic aids) of that bike.

Small note - I would have appreciated a mention of the ShiftCam and adaptive cruise / blind spot detection availability on the high-end bikes. Please do Ducati as time permits.

The GS Adventure range in the real world is about 270-300 miles. I think it’s perfect. I’m about ready for a break when I need to fill up and when I’m doing unpaved roads or off-road it’s pretty much an all-day tank that I don’t need to worry about gas.

Is there a reason they don’t do a 125cc bike which is A1 license / CBT compatible? Here in the UK the 125 (cbt) is what you start with and they just don’t cater for it. Its really just Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki who do, plus all the scooters.

I had an 2003 R1150R and it was an ok bike - heated grips cracked, vibrated a lot, starter had a design flaw (had rebuilt it with a new redesigned starter pinion gear) that chewed up the flywheel and the entire back of the bike needed to be disassembled to replace the flywheel. While in there, saw that the clutch slave cylinder was leaking. I don't know that I'd pay the premium for another BMW - same goes for my E39 that nickel-and-dimed me to death. German over-engineering does not necessarily equal quality and longevity. That R9T is a nice looking bike though.
