    My dad built that engine at Crewe. His name was John Jones, he was the only J Jones at Crewe who was building engines at that time. Wow, just saw my dads handiwork.

  • @bentleynut1648
    @bentleynut16484 жыл бұрын

    I have a 97 Azure. Yes all the roofs drop that hard. It's absolutely crazy. I think the problem was Pininfarina (who built the roof for Bentley) actually modelled the roof off a Mercedes R129 500SL. Even 10 of the actuators that control pushing hydraulic fluid in the Bentley are actually Mercedes R129 actuators. But my guess is that the extra weight of the Bentley roof has meant the mercedes design was somewhat overwhelmed.....which is why it crashed down. Its terrible for a car that was probably one of the most expensive production cars of the time. Symptomatic of thin R&D and testing budgets of low volume manufacturers. Sometimes they get it wrong.....and this top is wrong. Mind you, I owned a R129 Mercedes and I always felt that roof was a bit loud, but nowhere near as loud as the Bentley when it crashes down. I always use my hand to break its fall and reduce the speed it comes down. Aaaah the joys of rare cars

    @@roarkprofabperformance464 while those are close, they aren't the same thing at all. Nothing is sold today with the big sofa seats. I once drove out west with my parents (long story) and my dad had a 1984 (ish) Delta 88 regency. We had to rush due to family matters and for once, my dad relinquished the wheel to get some rest in the massive back seat. I took over. Started chatting with my mother and before I knew it, 6 hrs passed and I was so comfortable I didn't even notice. Usually my ass gets numb after 2 hours and I get out stiff as a board. I set the cruise at 110 kph and it just purred along never kicking down to go up hills. You could steer with one finger since the power steering was SO boosted. They do NOT make vehicles like that anymore, nothing even comes close to be honest. Now with that being said, the engine would literally run forever and was easy to maintain, but it had pitiful hp for the size and didn't get that great fuel econ either. But it would run. I bet the car is long since dead but the engine would still be running today if properly maintained.

    The man has a point, we live in a crazy world where 'normal' people will mock someone for driving a sedan or station wagon because they think they're boring, but somehow think crossovers and SUV's are cool. If only people could pull their heads out of their arses long enough to buy a car.

    That Bentley is a fine car, Hoovie. Just a thought from an old(er) man in London; have you ever thought (a) of looking for a car, and then (b) BEFORE YOU BUY IT, take the Wizard with you for a grown-up opinion of the vehicle BEFORE you purchase it ?? In fact, Mrs Wizard or even Mrs Hoovie would probably pick you better cars and get you a much better deal !!!!!!!!!!! I'd offer the Bentley to The Wizard before work commences as it nearly matches his Yacht !!!!!! And he can clearly afford it, as you probably paid for most. if not all of it !!!! Still love these video's; Live Long and Prosper, and Stay Safe too.
