If money is tight for you, then heres my advice. Buy domestic or Japanese. If you live in America, a crown vic is what I reccomend most. Spacious car with decent power and parts so plentiful you can buy them a dime a dozen, the rare times you'll need them since its built like a tank. And they get decent gas milage. Also theres countless toyota vehicles that require minimal maitnence and will last you forever. But the crown vic police interceptor was the best purchase ive ever made in my entire life. I had a similar experience with a Countach in the mid 90s. I was driving a z34 Monte Carlo from LA to Vegas on I15 when the Lambo passed me doing like 90. I pushed to about 120 to catch him and did, briefly.... I'll never forget the sound of that V12 pulling away toward the desert horizon. Would make a great movie scene because the cars had such distinct sounds: my Monte was screaming about 6600 rpm in third, but the Lambo had this deep, brassy baritone and about half the rpm, very different from the wail of their newer cars. Made me wonder just how much gear that thing had left.

My 2011 BMW 335ix has been pretty reliable. It has 85K miles, and $8500 total maintenance costs so far (including tires and new battery, but it will need new brakes SOON). But, when my 2007 Ford Focus was recently totaled, it had 102K miles and $3600 total maintenance costs (including tires and new battery, and still had lots of life on its ORIGINAL brakes). So, the BMW is just under THREE TIMES the maintenance cost ($/mile) of my super-reliable Ford Focus (which required ZERO repairs during its life). But, isn't that to be expected in a performance sedan? Am I wrong? I really don't know . . . .
