Many Transformers repaints manage to be decent. Then there are the repaints that are worthy in heir own right or even manage to be better than the original. Favorites for me include Cybertron Galvatron, Siege Soundblaster SG-EX, Universe Toxitron, Robots in Disguise Scourge, Shattered Glass Optimus Prime, Shattered Glass Jetfire, Titan Black Zarak, Armada Powerlinx Jetfire, Armada Optimus Prime final colors animated version, Energon Tidal Wave before his energy scarring, Energon Demolisher, Generations Thundercracker, Generations Skywarp, Generations Hotlink, Deluxe Class Breakaway, Energon Omega Sentinel, Universe Landquake, black and green G2 Sideswipe, and Animated Starscream clones.

I surmise they fail at color theory, too many primaries or too analogous or hues and shades are off, but moreso unattractive arrangement of colored parts.

Shining Ultra Magnus is actually one of Optimus Prime's alternate color schemes in DreamMix TV World Fighters (minus the armor, obviously). Yes, I am a nerd that recognizes stuff like that.

if you think Hong kong police cars are ugly, imagine a transformer turning into an irish Gardai Car (Gardai is the irish law enforcement) they too have neon yellow/blue decals over a white car, but depending on the car, the yellow blue can be as little as a stripe along the side, to as much as the entire side of the Slagging car! I've seen some where the only uncovered bit is the roof! Imagine that as a transformer, it'd probably glow in the dark

Shattered Glass Barricade maybe?

I actually don't mind how G2 Swindle looks. Something about the orangish-red and the purple camo on him kinda strikes me a little charming, even if it is garish. To me, a G2 figure I would say is worst is Slingshot/Quickslinger. Not taking into the account that the original G2 figure is a ticking time-bomb due to GPS, but I never liked how much he stuck out amongst the other Aerialbots. With the others, there's that uniform color scheme of blue, red, silver, grey, white all around them. And then Slingshot comes decides he wants to be the one to stick out and it just looks ugly with all the gold across him.

Oh my, such a fun topic. Now we need a top 10 best garish repaints! :D

Tidal Wave's second color scheme in Armada is conceptually garish. Yet, it manages to fit Tidal Wave well. If anything, I remember his original overly purple color scheme the least.

Honestly, the G2 Combaticons would've done better to just go with dazzle camouflage. It would still have been ugly, but it would've made sense. It's been noted that the Marvel Comics adaptation of the 86 movie did use yellow light for that Matrix glow scene... but seeing as Japan never _got_ that comic, I can't imagine that's what Takara was going for with Shining Magnus.

The g2s are quintessential 90s. Every super soaker, inline skates, trapper keeper looked like this. It's garish but I have the nostalgia feels.

I own the year of the goat MP Soundwave. I can get the issues with the colour scheme but overall I’m happy to own him. It was by far the cheapest way at the time to get an MP Soundwave complete with the all the cassettes without having to pay a crap ton on the second hand market.

Well Tj, having 2 kids pf my own now i can assure you that baby vomit tends to be white, however other digestive discharges do come out that particular shade of green

Piss Magnus is yellow because that's how the "shining" scene was colored in Marvel's adaptation of the movie. I have the Newage version of the guy and it glows in the dark, which makes it cool (IMO) and the transparent actually doesn't feel too bad.

I think they also did a LaserPrime in the same deco as that Soundwave

They certainly did, which was odd: charge almost MP level money for a reissue of a G2 figure (which was the RiD01 revamp of the Car Robots retooling), alongside a reissue of an actual Masterpiece (with the same color scheme).

I can say this about Desert Camo Brawl The tolerances are much better than the first version. He's got not trouble plugging his shoulders into place

I have transformers collector club Circuit as a birthday gift one year.

Your #2 pick is one of my most-wanted Transformers toys. I see where you're coming from but I just adore that militaristic color scheme for a jet transformer, especially with the USAF emblems on the wings.

You got it all wrong. The Combaticons are NOT hiding. They want you know they are coming to kick your butt!

That Machine Wars homage Thundercracker looks awesome to me.

13:54 The only part of that toy I like is the yellow and black Optimus Prime. However, you have a point, the clear yellow Ultra Magnus looks hideous, serves no purpose besides being a badly colored mess. Should've had some black and white parts on the robot mode itself to make it not look so ugly.

A Pirate verison of Astrotrain was an awesome idea!

Numbers 8, 7, and 2 are proof of the adage that one man's trash is another man's treasure for me. I loved Animated Roadbuster and BotCon 2013 Thundercracker. As an ARMY brat, I have always been an absolute sucker for military paint schemes, although I do acknowledge that they saturated the O.D. green on Thundercracker a bit too much. It's definitely kinda loud LOL As for G2 Swindle..."what was he blending into?", I hear you ask... ...the 90's, bro. He was blending into the 90's hahaha. As absurd as those paint jobs were, I did own them [G2 Combaticons] back when they were new, and I adored them. I could never explain why, but I had such an affinity for the G2 repaints (in general) as a kid. My favorites were the Dinobots, including that weird all-blue Grimlock.

The Astro train recolor looks like he was involved in some kind of transportation accident and was fused with skyfire/Jetfire somehow...

The Cybertron Jungle Planet Megatron has a Cyber Key port at the T-Rex mode's butthole. Man if Jobbythehong gets his hand on this figure, he'll probably have a field day.

My theory, as a Dutchman, is that someone at Hasbro is a Netherlands Enthousiast. The early Dutch flags were Orange White and Blue (but overtime the Orange became Red) And I LOVE this paintscheme!!!!

Not limited enough, when I went to Botcon 2015, they were offering free toys to kids under 12. The toys were all unsold Machine Wars Thundercrackers. They had this giant bin behind the entrance desk where they'd hand one out to the kids.

My theory on Platinum Astrotrain and Blitzwing is that they were canceled G2 color schemes that never even had artwork that saw the light of day until they were released in Platinum. I feel like that would make the most sense because just look at them hideous things.

It seems to me that the thought behind that "Matrix Energy Charge Ultra Magnus" thing.... was that they were trying to make a TF go Super Saiyajin ala'Dragon Ball Z. But yeah, it's still a butt-ungly color anyway.

How about the Year of the Goat Laser Prime who has a similar color to Soundwave. And adds pink to it.

Personally I think it's fine the way it is. Maybe it's just because it reminds me of the spaceship toys I had when I was a kid.

It's funny, I only got Machine Wars Thundercracker because of this video. This feels like a color palette I'd hate under normal circumstances, but I just like it for some reason? Either way this was a fun video, I didn't even know half of these existed!

They did the same for a Chinese Lunar new year G2 Optimus Prime they added black accents and chrome trailer, but it is quite hideous and I do like clear plastic toys.

idk TJ, literally the only color scheme you mentioned on this that I agree with is Shining Magnus, ...well and Barricade, yellow just really a'int his color. But then again, I love a lot of these color schemes just for how outlandish and absurd they are. I also always kind of viewed Jungle Planet Megatron as some sort of undead version as a kid, so that always made the color scheme for that one just click more.

G2 Combaticons were before their time. Rappers do camo like that on their fancy cars all the time. Look up Young Dolph’s fleet of cars he owned before he passed away, it was the white and red Russian camo that was popularized in COD

Not going to defend it cause you are right, its Ugly , but i am a huge Soundwave fan so , yes i do have it proudly displayed on my SW shelf .. in deck mode 😂….. the cassettes, i use them as OG characters as an elite team …same reason i got the Linkin Park Soundwave and eventually the J Balvin Soundwave.

Okay so I agree with everything on this list, except Circuit, that repaint of Hftd Axor is so good looking to me. I think it's amazing and I still really want one.

Circuit’s original figure came out in the 90’s and I remember when I was a kid that those 90’s neon colors were in popular on real vehicles, clothing, etc. However on a Transformer though, those colors will never be in style.

Toxitron Collection Jazz should be on this list. Not because it is bright and garish, but because it feels like it is missing a contrast color. It feels incomplete.

As someone who owned the botcon machine wars figures at one point, I still have the Starscream and Mirage, I actually like Thundercracker from that set and don’t think it was nearly as bad as any of the others

G2 combaticons said they were done with hiding and just got dripped out

I remember getting that 2 pack brawl at CVS when I was sick and 1st grade with my mom. It came with a Jolt that was just as ugly. Grey and blue. Dull and dumb looking. I was also suprised demolishor from cybertron didn't make the list. That thing looks very similar to that except it's missing that garish yellowish color.

Circuit's a redeco of Axor because G1 Circuit was a redeco of G1 Axer.

I think that bw megatron would look good in an updated figure (edit) I didn't know there's a orange creamsicle soundwave

SG Astrotrain would either be a Hiro from Thomas and Friends homage (black, gold and red) or Legacy Galaxy Shuttle with the original Astrotrain head as an homage to the Japanese release of original Astrotrain.

@@jaredhebert942 Maybe Hiro colors Astrotrain could be called "Grandpuff" (a nod to the RWS/Thomas story of the same name and the old D51 from RID 2001) or "DRX" (homage to Rail Racer's Japanese name).

I love the Soundwave figure, I love the copper and the clear, but you are 100% correct... it makes zero sense. Now, the most recent repaint of G1 Soundwave... Balintron, I think it's called, with the yellow smiley face paint job... that looks like Piss Magnus and YOTG Soundwave had a surrogate child through Chelsea Clinton, and dropped it off the ugly tree... and it hit every branch on the way down. Please do another top 10 uglier or Fugly repaints and add that one. This was a fun video!

Needs a part 2 of repaints so bad that they became good. I nominate Prime Dead End and 2007 movie All Spark Power Incinerator.

I can't say I disagree with any of these choices although I don't mind the Circuit soo much. Not a great color match but I love the mold.

YOTG Soundwave reminds me of wrapped caramels from an artisan candy shop. But I'd argue that the J.Balvin version of his G1 toy is worse. Also if you count BW Soundwave, he did sport copper/caramel colors then. It was all GPS but it technically counts, haha.

As for Circuit. I get that they were being as cheap as possible by doing it as just a repaint, but I feel like this figure would have been served much better if they had done at least minor remolding. Remove the spikes, replace the hands, give him a new head sculp. You could have kept everything else, and it would have been much better. The garish color scheme would have still been garish, but at least the bot would have fit better.

So where would nexus prime go in terms of color scheme?

Cybertron Beast Wars Megatron feels intentionally not right; like something went wrong with him in-universe. I find the Machine Wars version of Thundercracker kinda neat.

I like G2 Swindle because he looks like a Cobra Alley Viper.
