I’d say that the omission of buttons for basic things like heated seats and traction control is another way that Volkswagen cost cut on this car. Also the sliders that they have for climate control don’t even light up at night. Still a great car tho.

Depending on what trim you have in the settings you can set it to unlock when you walk up to it and all 4 doors unlock.

Hello, there was recall on the engine cover. I got mine installed for free like 2 weeks ago. You should go ask your local dealer about that.

Here in the uk, the mk8 has also lost its gas strut under the bonnet (hood)-even my mk7.5 1.5 has one. Very annoying (and cheap) of vw-probably annoys me more than anything.....I could rage about it all day long. Standard equipment (or not) and available options (or not)..extremely irritating. Shame the vw 'cost-cutting' didn't translate to a better value car...

I'm in the UK and I got a new engine cover free of charge done on my last service from the dealer. You shouldn't have to pay for one when it's a recall, I would go back to your dealer and ask for the recall to be done

Wish my mirror turn signal and rear turn signal lights move in the direction of turn mine just blink. I think the European gti do.

I think the Mk 8.5 is just going to be a Facelift with some of the smaller issues ironed out. Its not going to be a phase shift to EV or anything. The Mk9 will apparently be exclusively EV, at least that's what the European motoring press were saying last year.

On the ground effects on the side, why not just plastidip them silver to be close to match?

Also, I don't understand the downside of 'cheap plastic'. You know what holds up over time and looks the best in high traffic areas where you are always rubbing against and hitting your feet against? Cheap Plastic. It's the best stuff for by your feet. Also, who cares what the dash is lol. We never touch it or sleep on it lol. Also, as I have an S trim, personally, I dislike power seats. I think power seats are just a gimmick and something to break, I'd rather have the handle. Although, I am annoyed at the handle since it's on the inside of the seat, so I can't just adjust it from the outside when getting in after my wife (where the memory seats would be nice). I think the only big thing I'd change would be adding more padding to the interior transmission tunnel, but the seats are supportive enough, so that is a very minor issue.

I don't mind "cheap plastic" either as long as its textured nicely and looks good. Also soft touch or padded plastic should definitely be used on areas which you touch regularly or lean against while driving, places like the transmission tunnel or interior door pull should always be soft so your knees don't ache when rubbing against it for long periods.

While the cheap plastic holds up, it doesn’t feel like the interior of a 40k car. I feel like power seats are something that I like as I have many people that drive my car and I can always set it back to the position I always had it in.

@@ShepsGarage I bought one of the ones you apply with 3M tape and regret it. It sticks out too much on the sides and ruins the lines of the car at certain angles.

Not really cost cutting when the GTIs/Rs have always been like that. The interior trim on my mk7.5 R has the same amount of plastic on the inside. They've never come with power folding/auto dimming mirrors. They have also never had the KESSY on all 4 doors and the passenger seat has always lacked full auto. Comparing VW to Audi is kind of pointless, you pay more for the Audi for a reason.

WoW! This kid rants about his VW GTI. Perhaps he should not have bothered getting one. Majority knows about the cost cutting - get over it.VW cost cutting began after Diesel gate scandal. You either stay loyal and not bother with it's negatives. In the past I used to drive 09 2.5L Rabbit/golf and 2017-2019 VW Tiguans and never complained. When the new Tiguan came out w/the slump power engine, I upgraded to the Audi brand. He should've just chose a used (CPO) 2015-2019 VW Golf R then tuned it and called it a day - any VW enthusiast would see that as a smart buy over the MK8 and present
